Yay!! I'm SO happy you liked it! :) yes I would love to join the community!
(btw if you want another like this, please let me know, it was so fun to write!)
hi!! I was reading the Tenali Rama posts on Tumblr and I saw that a lot of people here love the friendship between Rama and Maharaj Krishnadevray Ji (me too!) I decided to make a list of some of my favorite “lesser-known” scenes (by that I mean scenes that at least I personally haven’t seen talked about too much on Tumblr, in the comments on YouTube, or anywhere online) which highlight how much Maharaj cares for Rama. I also included approximate timestamps and episodes.
I hope you all like this! :)
(All the episode numbers refer to season 1)
Ep 254, timestamp around 18:12—the end of the episode: This is probably my favorite in the list! It’s near the end of the first Jaganmohini storyline, after Maharaj Gajpati Ji asks for Rama as a gift. Basically, Maharaj Krishnadevray Ji is trying to come up with a plan to stop Gajpati from taking Rama, and the Maharanis assume he’s trying to stop Jaganmohini from leaving. At one point, the Maharanis are like, “Itna prem?”/“So much love?”, and Maharaj just smiles sweetly (thinking they’re asking about how he loves Rama, not Jaganmohini) and is like, “When you stay around someone, you’re bound to get attached, and he isn’t just around me: he lives in my heart.” And then Maharani Chinnadevi Ji is like, “You’re in [his] heart too” and the loving, almost shy expression Maharaj makes to that statement is just so sweet.
Ep 119, timestamp around 1:50: This is a bit of a short one, but I love how Maharaj calls Rama the, “star of his eyes”/“hamare aakhon ke sitaare.” (Slightly off-topic, but only Maharaj Krishnadevray Ji can call you that and then threaten to hang you in the same breath lol) For anyone who was wondering this is in the Grandfather’s Turban/Dada Ji Ki Pagri storyline
Ep 394, timestamp around 2:06: This scene is after Birbal reveals how Rama purposefully lost the Asht-Diggaj competition to the court. Maharaj says, “Kiyoo ki jis duniyaa meh [Rama] rehete hain, voh unke layak hain he nahin, aur voh he unka sab se baara aprad hain.” I love the double-meaning of this line, because at this point, Maharaj is still acting like he’s mad at Rama, so those who believe that Rama did something wrong (aka literally just Guruvar) think Maharaj is saying that Rama doesn’t deserve all the stuff he has, but he’s actually saying that Rama’s too good for this world, and the world doesn’t deserve him, which is just so sweet.
Ep 326, timestamp around 16:08, and ep 328, around 7:02 : These scenes are in the Pralaynath storyline, after Rama’s disappearance following the anushtan/ritual with Baba Kal Bailu. All of episode 326 is essentially Maharaj worrying about Rama, but I think the sweetest scene of the episode is at timestamp 16:08 when Maharaj mentally vows to Rama that he won’t let anything bad happen to him. The scene in episode 328 is a really small one, but I love Maharaj’s delighted expression and tone of voice when he realizes the bhramrakshiash/demon is actually Rama.
Ep 312, timestamp around 2:03: This is during the storyline where Maharaj gives Rama desh nikala/expels him from the kingdom for 3 months. In this scene, Maharaj is like, “Mahamantri Ji, how many months has Pandit Ramakrishna been gone for?” and Mantrivar was just like, “Bro it’s been like 2 days” (I paraphrased a bit there)(Mantrivar didn’t call Maharaj, “bro” but he probably wanted to.) I love how Maharaj couldn’t spend two days without Rama without every second feeling like an eternity
Thank you for reading! I hope you liked it! Sorry that this post became so long (if you couldn’t tell, I like to ramble lol)
(p.s. for anyone that didn’t know, you can watch all the episodes for free on YouTube. Here’s a link to the playlist of all the season 1 episodes: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL6Rtnh6YJK7aeclWn6Y2EY8Iw1TvZDLLh)
