We should all be radicalized by Otter 841.

Living in Santa Cruz, CA, we see sea otters so often it's easy to forget that they are endangered. Otters are a keystone species, meaning they are critical to the health of the Monterey Bay. They protect it from being overrun by species like urchins and invasive crabs that endanger the kelp forest. Without otters, the kelp would disappear along with hundreds of other species. The seabed would erode, making our coast more vulnerable to storms. Otters maintain the balance of our Bay, and they are just one example of an endangered species whose conservation is critical to the species and people of an area.

Trump has proposed changing the interpretation of the Endangered Species Act so that it no longer protects habitat, creating a loophole that companies can use to disregard environmental protections, a move that would be catastrophic for endangered species across the country.

But we can fight.

So, I’ve had time to gather my thoughts.

Pokémon Presents Spoilers ⬇️

So anyway, I was a bit disappointed by the starters they’ve chosen at first. Since I really wanted either Snivy and Popplio, but I get it. It seems that Gamefreak wants to bring back the more underdogs of the starters. Though it still feels a bit unfair to bring 2 Johto starters when they already had 1 in the previous Legends game. But hey what can you do? 🤷‍♀️ Gamefreak probably thought, “Hey, we can do these starters better.” And didn’t want to wait for a 3rd Legends game to do them justice. So I get it. As for Tepig… They probably wanted to wanted to redo Emboar since it was one of the least popular starters. So yeah, I’m assuming their final evolutions will have regional forms.

Here’s hoping that Meganium will have the Fairy sub-type cuz I’m definitely choosing Chikorita.

And now… time for the Copperajah in the room… The graphics… I’m not the type who looks at an in-game tree and be like, “The textures on that tree look like poo, worst game of the year!?” Listen, for me, as long as the graphics aren’t garbage, looks visually appealing, and has enjoyable gameplay, I’m not picky. At least the colors are more vibrant than it was in Legends Arceus. Besides, they still have some time to polish the game, so who knows, they might improve it.

As for the gameplay itself, the real-time Pokémon battles is definitely a bold departure from their usual turn-based battles, and I’m really excited for it. It shows the Gamefreak team is doing some experimenting with these Legends games. A way to take a break from the constant repeating formula of the main games. They’re getting out of their comfort zone which says a lot.

Besides that, it kinda looked like the Pokémon follow you around better than they did in Scarlet and Violet. Which I am thankful for! I wanted to have my Pokémon out of their Pokéballs and follow me constantly. But in Scarlet and Violet, depending on which Pokémon they can go so slow that if you go too far, they automatically go back in their ball! I wanted them to enjoy journeying beside me dang it! I don’t want to constantly get them out because they couldn’t keep up with me! I wanted what we had when HeartGold and SoulSilver came out! Have the Pokémon following close to you and react to their environments!

But other than that, I believe there’s still more to be revealed. So I won’t get disappointed with them not revealing whether or not there will be new regional variants or Mega Evolutions. I’m still holding out for new Mega Evolutions, because it would be a wasted opportunity to not make new ones. They did so for Omega Ruby and alpha Sapphire, so I know they’re capable enough to do so here.

I actually did it…

I deactivated my Deviantart account.

My main reasoning being I can’t condone an art site that claims to be for artists where everyone can express themselves and maybe even get a side-gig or a job as a freelance artist, but then screws those artists over by advertising AI Art! As someone who got started on Deviantart and even improved my skills thanks to it, it felt like an insult and betrayal. It might sound like I’m going too far by deactivating it, but really, it was a long time coming. They kept implementing changes that made the site less fun to use that eventually drove me away. It became more of a hassle just to post one thing. I couldn’t even put a ‘ in the title of my post! It’s a small thing, but it drove me crazy! That, and as much as I had good memories on Deviantart, I also had some… embarrassing memories that I rather not talk about… Call it the naivety of Younger Eve. So there were a lot of things I wanted to let go of.

But don’t worry, I did save some of my old art, just to go back on memory lane and see how much I have improved.

So now, I’ve switched to Sheezy.art and Ko-fi.
