Aye Verb v.s. Hitman Holla: "King of the Arch"
Tumblr media
Posted by: Reshod K. Robinson (@IamEyeKonic)
Presented by Chase Productions in conjunction with Smack and URL (Ultimate Rap League: the world’s most respected MC battle arena) the event took place at The Ambassador Nightclub and lived up to all the hype.
The former friends went at each other’s throats for 35 minutes in what is being hailed as possibly the rap battle of the year!  If you have never experienced a rap battle for yourself this is a great way to introduce yourself one of the oldest artistic expressions of rap.  In my opinion, the movie 8 Mile was inspired by epic rap battles such as this one!
Click the picture below to watch this extraordinary battle.  Afterwards, please feel free to weigh in and tell us who you feel won the battle and should be considered the “King of the Arch” via Twitter at @EGOMag.  Saint Louis; stand up, support your own, and be proud!!!

T-Pain: "Drowning Again"
Tumblr media
Posted By: Reshod K. Robinson
As his promotional tour winded down, T-Pain stop the set of Jimmy Kimmel Live to perform his latest single “Drowning Again”.
The song has been getting a lot of notoriety because it is sung in entirety without the use of T-Pain’s signature, autotune.
“Drowning Again” is the latest single off of Pain’s 4th studio album entitled RevolveЯ which was released on December 2nd to mixed reviews.  T-Pain stated that the two R's in the word, RevolveЯ have been capitalized so that in the middle, it says "evolve", indicating that T-Pain has evolved as an artist and as a person in the period from Thr33 Ringz up till RevolveЯ.

Busta Rhymes: Why Stop Now Video Contest
Tumblr media
Posted by: Reshod K. Robinson
It appears that Busta Rhymes has gone “flipmode” on us once again.  The New York based rapper recently inked a lucrative and ground breaking deal with powerhouse YMCMB and new comer to the music industry Google Music.
“It’s an unbelievably groundbreaking deal, [there’s] never been a deal done like this before, where the most powerful search engine in the world combines with the most powerful record company in the world,” said Rhymes of the dual collaboration.
Rhymes’ next album, E.L.E. (Extinction Level Event) 2: End Of The World, is scheduled to debut through Google Music sometime in the first quarter of the new year (insiders are projecting).  The first single of the highly anticipated LP is a track entitled “Why Stop Now” which features Busta’s new label mate Chris Brown who reached out to Busta for his Top 10 single “Look At Me Now” which was released earlier this year.
Tumblr media
To build additional hype, the former Leaders of the New School hypeman has issued a challenge to all of his fans.

Patrice O’Neil: Laugh Now, Cry Later
Tumblr media
Posted by: Reshod K. Robinson
The world became a little less funnier today as it has been reported that comedian Patrice O’Neal passed at the age of 41.
Born Patrice Lumumba Malcolm O'Neal, the comedian had been a great influence in the realm of comedy making appearance several TV shows such as "Chappelle Show," "The Office," and "Tough Crowd with Colin Quinn" "The Opie and Anthony" radio show” and numerous standup via Comedy Central where he recently took part in the roast of Charlie Sheen.
Tumblr media
Known best for his raunchiness and outspoken demeanor, the comic quickly rose in the ranks of comedians to be reckoned with.  Many people had their eye out for this colossal giant who had drawn comparisons to the like of the late Richard Pryor.
O’Neil announced in October of this year that he had been diagnosed with diabetes after been hospitalized from a stroke.  He never completely recovered from those complications and at 7:00 a.m. on the morning of Nov. 29th the comedian died.
O’Neil leaves behind to cherish in his memory his wife, Vondecarlo; his step daughter Aymilyon, sister Zinder, and his mother Georgia, and a great legion of fans.
In a tribute, EGO Mag would like for you all to enjoy a short video of his work as we send out our prayers and deepest sympathies to the O’Neil family.  Click on the photo below.

R.I.P. Heavy D a.k.a. The Overweight Lover!
Posted by: Reshod K. Robinson
The Hip Hop industry is tremendously saddened today as one of the entertaining and influential rappers of the ‘90s Heavy D died today at the age of 44.
Tumblr media
Born Dwight Arrington Meyers, was rushed to an L.A. hospital around noon at collapsing in the stairwell of his home.  Witnesses recall hearing Meyers proclaiming, “I can’t breathe….I can’t breathe,” as others called 911.  Meyers was still conscious when paramedics arrived on the scene.  He died shortly after his arrival.
Heavy D who was the front man for the group ‘Heavy D & the Boyz’ found consistent commercial success throughout his career.  Singles such as “Now That We Found Love” and “That’s The Way You’re Living (When You’re In Living Color)” which became the theme song for the hit Fox sketch comedy show “In Living Color” which showcased up and coming comedians Jim Carrey, Jamie Foxx, among a slew of others, catapulted Heavy D into Hip Hop immortality.
Tumblr media
As a reward for his individual success, many artists sought out to work with the rapper, background singer, producer, and surprisingly agile dancer.  Standout collaborations included being featured on Michael Jackson’s “Jam” and sister Janet’s “Alright”.
Recently, Heavy D had appeared in the recently released box office hit “Tower Heist” which had just been the latest of numerous movie and television cameos he had made since transitioning from rapper to actor.  While wrapping up production on the movie, Heavy D performed at the Michael Jackson Tribute Concert in Wales on October 8, and performed once again later that same month at the BET Awards, his first live performances in 15 years.
Tumblr media
At this time rumors are speculating that Meyers has died from a heart attack, these rumors have not been confirmed nor denied by the L.A. medical coroner at this time.
EGO Mag respectfully sends out our condolences to the Meyers’ family during their time of bereavement.  R.I.P. to one of the greatest Hip Hop pioneers of the 1990’s.
