Bookbinding: How Dare You!? / Cheng He Ti Tong by Qi Ying Jun
I also made this for @spockandawe for an exchange! But I wanted to bind it myself, too. Would you believe I made it halfway through this novel before realizing it was by the same author as Are You OK? (the author's name is different on different platforms I guess?) I was like "this author's doing some very neat stuff with transmigration ... hey, wait a sec!"
Since the concept of this novel is transmigrating into a transmigration novel, I made a triple-layer cutout cover. The outermost cover is the "original" novel, followed by the in-universe transmigration novel, and finally the actual novel, where instead of a proper cover design it gets a hastily-written* sharpie title on note paper.
I was going to put more colors in the endbands and fewer in the splatter-painted edges, but it turns out if you only use brown paint for splattered edges ... even if it is a very nice brown in other contexts ... it looks like the book is moldy. So I added some blue too and at that point I thought a multicolored endband would be too much.
My laser printer can't print to the edges of the pages, so for the floral background, I printed just the border on my inkjet printer, and then printed the text of those specific pages afterwards.
There is a typographical easter egg! If you've read the novel, you can see if you can figure it out (it's present on one of the pages pictured here).
*actually I wrote it it about ten times before getting a version I liked enough to use

“go to hell” is basic. “i hope your favourite media gets an adaptation that got so popular with people that can’t tag properly, it overruns your main tag. Unfortunately you don’t hate the adaptation enough to block it, so now you just see bad takes after bad takes, complete misunderstanding of the theme of the story and the characters, and fan theories that contradicts to both the source material and adaptation but treated as canon and used in arguments for points.” is smart. it’s possible. it’s terrifying. It already happened to me

Bookbinding: The Imperial Uncle by Da Feng Gua Guo
This is the first of two novels I bound for @spockandawe for a cnovel bookbinding exchange. The Imperial Uncle is pretty short (the Peach Flower House edition is a single volume) and I bound it in two quarto volumes with a brocade bookcloth cover and a bamboo strip spine. The pages are sewn directly to the string tying the spine together. The slipcase is covered with the same brocade bookcloth and decorated with satin cord.
The text is set in Goudy Bookletter 1911, with decorative initials and other decorative elements also by Goudy.

And regarding self-driving vehicles,

A good rule of thumb for AI is "would you trust a trained pigeon to do this?"
"We trained a pigeon to recognise cancerous cell clusters and somehow they're really good at it" okay great, that's something that could plausibly be a thing.
"We trained a pigeon to recognise good CV:s and left it in charge of sorting through all our job applications" uh perhaps consider not doing that.

“ Right now, Huaisang is just angry. Jin Guangyao is dead on the floor- all his schemes exposed, and still it’s Huaisang who’s the villain. “

am i the only person who thinks that wen ning is mostly grateful for wwx bringing him back as a fierce corpse?
like yes there are the obvious downsides he dislikes (cant eat, muted sense of touch, unable to sleep, able to be controlled against his will etc) but i feel like when wen ning was alive he felt functionally useless and helpless due to his (spiritual?) illness, and the fact that he had to be protected was what kept wen qing tied to wrh's side and in his service. now that hes a fierce corpse he no longer needs such protection and was able to fight for himself and his loved ones
like. yes i think there are definitely times he hates it. but i think before he lost all of his family and was cursed to be an experiment instead of dying alongside them, i think wen ning was probably mostly grateful and somewhat pleased about his status as a strong fierce corpse
