firstly, you think if this was a pedophile rape thing, that would be mentioned more aside from a passing comment in the last mvs file?? nothing else insinuates thats what was happening. if that was the intent, they had her address. something would've happened. secondly, "the inclinations of his peers" very likely just refers to cancel culture instinct to bash on people who are pretty. also. shes pretty, so it'll get attention. fuuta was doing this for attention. not because he likes kids????

i do not like how this is looking so i'm going to try convince you all to forgive fuuta kajiyama.

ensure you have watched the appare march mv and the second coming (the t3 voice drama), because i likely will not be using them constantly as sources/breaking them down in detail.

disclaimer i am not a professional analyst i just want to see him forgiven.also if i am missing any details you find relevant then please do share them with the class!!1! without further ado

01. fuuta's remorse

ever since the first trial and before, it is obvious he has been deeply affected by the weight of the consequences brought on by what he's done.

to put it plainly and avoid misunderstandings (in case the appare march's mv did not do so), fuuta kajiyama, a bored university student with too much time on his hands, doxxed a middle school girl because she seemed like the 'perfect target' for internet users to burn down. a pretty, helpless young girl became fuuta's, and many others', target because he was riding the high of a justice too unrealistic and extreme to bear any good fruit.

bring it on shows just how unrealistic and extreme said justice was. he's portrayed in a video-gamey setting; even the lyrics have this cocky air to them as if his ego is getting fed by putting people down.

backdraft shows his horror, his fear and paranoia throughout the period from when his crime was committed to his feelings during milgram's second trial. more real than bring it on, yet clouded with a hazy smoke rising from the fires and threatening to suffocate him.

as for the appare march... more on that later.

his songs, the mvs and his demeanor displayed in the voice dramas have portrayed him as some sort of coward. a weakling, who depended on approval of the masses through the screen, blinded from reality by the joy of entertainment and false heroism.

cowardly, yes - but is he really weak?

with t3 in mind, i argue, fuuta kajiyama is undoubtedly strong. he was able to process his guilt and pain and truly reflect on the feelings and actions which drove him to become the person he is presently.

although right now it can appear as if he is desperately clinging to amane's religion to save him and he may be rendered helpless without, there is little we and him can do but trust in what he has in the present, that he has truly acknowledged (not disregarded) his crimes and is willing to move on, better.

trampling on yourself or being trampled on by others for a mistake (no matter how light or severe) you made only serves pain and purpose up till the point you are willing to learn from it, and fuuta has shown he is. further unforgiving would have no purpose.

"and what if he isn't?" ...well, we'll just have to see, don't we?

02. the appare march and the second coming

this was the ugly truth laid bare for us to see.

i feel it necessary to remind you, the mvs are a direct projection of the prisoners' minds. no lies, nothing to hide; unless the prisoner themselves is unaware or in denial of the implications of shown content.

the appare march paints him as a villain. that is what he sees of himself, and it is parallel to bring it on in that he is not wrapped up in digital fantasy. this is as raw of a judgement as fuuta can sentence to himself, and he is hiding nothing from us. nor is he wavering between sweet denial and reality any longer.

so with that being said, we shouldn't forgive him, right? he is, after all, a villain.

this is where the dilemma of his new change takes the stage. now, he seems like he's changed for the better. he bears amane's beliefs and teachings, a 'trial' of his own, yet he understands (as he says in the vd) said beliefs and teachings are abnormal and childishly simple.

but even so, he has nothing else. even before milgram, he had nothing to believe in or dedicate to; especially as the one thing he did do so for, 'justice', caused him to suffer greatly. as the quote goes, there's no good in rubbing salt in the wound in this case.

like fuuta himself said, there's nothing else he can do but keep apologizing to a girl who's already dead, and what good does that do? he won't do so and try to garner pity anymore, he acknowledges that there's little help in that.

there's only bitter acceptance, but acceptance nonetheless. and accepting (not validating or denying) your wrongdoings is the right thing to do in order to become better.

03. "can someone who committed a crime really start over?"

all things considered, are we going to carry out the same mistake made by the one we're punishing, again? sentencing someone to a fate worse than death, and even death in the cases of haruka, shidou and mahiru; is that really our right?

you might think forgiving him now does little. but with the last of our power as the audience and judge, i believe we should use it to forgive him. forgive him because he's been punished long and hard enough for his actions, forgive him because any more shunning from the world would do even less good, and forgive him out of the trust he will take what he has accepted of himself, the bad and ugly, as a stepping stone for self-improvement.

and if we (or rather, es) are really hundreds of thousands of people as they both theorized, it would benefit him to believe amane isn't the only one helping him believe there's still hope to start over after what he's done. because hopefully, we acknowledge his pain and his change of heart.

so let past actions be the past, and forgive him, because it's the little consolation we can offer after all he's gone through and all he's learnt. the little encouragement that if he truly has detached himself from the way he uses social media and the high it brings, he will be able to believe things will get better.

after all, the road ahead is smoky, the fire behind you that you started still threatens to burn you alive, and you're desperate to believe that there's still hope for a person like yourself.

but when the ashes have settled, you have to trust that even amidst the destruction, you can march forward and begin anew.

"and humans? every single one is stupid. every single one of them makes mistakes. that's what being human is. i can guarantee it."

+ a side note from me personally to end this off. choosing not to forgive fuuta, deciding not to forgive him for his actions rather than for him as a person means we are, as he said from the start, no better than him and the people who flame others blindly online. for this reason, fuuta kajiyama is an incredibly accurate reflection of our generation and issues stemming from the online world we live in. i take a bow
