“No, you’re fine,” Mini said in reply. “I was just looking for a book on shapeshifters. It’s for a class.” Mini held up their phone with the title of the book to the librarian. “Do you have a copy of it?”

elaine leaned in, looking at the phone and staring at it for a long moment, trying to remember if they had it, and if they did, where it would be. “let me look in the database,” she tells her, nodding her head and rounding the counter, tapping the keyboard to wake up the library’s computer. “you go to school then?” she asked, looking up at her with a soft smile. she tapped away at the keyboard. “what are you studying?”

“Mmm.” Aida dipped another piece of cereal into ketchup. Looking up, she smiled. “Oh, hello. Have you ever had these? They’re called Honey Nut Cheerios. They’re so crunchy and sweet. And apparently this red stuff is called ketchup. It’s delicious,” she said. “Would you like some?”

elaine winced slightly, watching the other eat the cheerios in such an odd manner. she remember what erik had told her, how she was still adjusting to the world of the living, but she wondered if she should tell her that that’s not how one ate that type of cereal. “i’ve had them,” she tells her, smiling ruefully. “just, um, not together.” she laughed softly, shaking her head, holding up her hand to stop her from offering. “that’s okay. i think i have some peanut butter crackers in my purse if i decide i’m hungry.”

Erik chuckled lightly, “What are you apologising for?” He asked, used to it but asking anyway, “I just wanted to let you know my sister is going to start working here. She’s gonna be a story teller. Just wanted to give you a head’s up. She’s also the dead one, the one the library is named after, so she’s still adjusting to being back in the living realm. I know you will make her feel welcome,” he said, not doubting that she would.

“because i wasn’t giving you my full attention, obviously,” she said, rolling her eyes but smiling easily. she stood and pressed her hands to her hips as erik spoke, listening attentively. she couldn’t help but soften her smile, nodding her head. “of course,” she said. “your family is my family.” she crossed her arms over her chest and tilted her head slightly. “how are you doing? with all of this.” she waved her hand to indicate she meant life in general. she cared about erik, she wanted to make sure he was okay.

“Don’t worry about me. I stopped by to see if Erik was here, but I guess he’s not,” she explained with a shrug, handing the young woman one of the books she was returning before lifting up the plastic bag. “I did bring lunch for you guys as well, so enjoy!” Natalie explained, handing over the bag to her as well. 

“oh!” she said, turning to look around. “did you need him? i can call if you were supposed to meet him...” elaina trailed off, taking the book from the woman and smiling at her with a soft nod of her head. her gaze moved and looked at the lunch in her hand. “you didn’t have to do that,” she said, laughing softly as she placed the book on the counter and took the bag after the fact. “i’ll make sure everyone gets some of it.”

noting the other’s presence, elaina peaked her head around the pile of books in her hands. she’d picked up a stack from the return bin, deciding to put them back in rotation with the other hundreds of books at the library. “hi! sorry!” she said, smiling at the other and shifting so the books wouldn’t fall. “give me one second!” she turned, the books swaying as she did, and she placed them down on the nearest counter. with them free now, she spun, placing her hands at her waist. “what’s up?” she asked, cheery as ever.

To put it simply, Elaine is kind, caring and quite soft. She cares very deeply very easily, and it sometimes gets her into trouble when she trusts too quickly. 

She has had to learn not to be a pushover; sometimes, it’s still hard for her to say “no” when asked to do something. 

Elaine is very optimistic! Some find that it can be a little overbearing at times. 

She does tend to be stubborn when it comes to matters of her heart and topics she cares deeply about. 

Elaine is assumed to be weak and defenseless, but she learned from her father that the best defense is a good offense, and she had learned from an early age to stand up for herself and what she believes in.
