The aluminized dome is the earliest version of the coated dome and attenuates the light passing through it by approximately two f-stops (equivalent to approximately a 75% light reduction or loss). While this type of dome is still in use, the preferred dome material is a smoked plastic or tinted plastic that attenuates the light approximately one f-stop, or 50%. In contrast to rectangular housings using flat plastic or glass windows with excellent optical quality and transmission, some dome systems add slight optical distortion to the video picture. In high-quality domes the image distortion is almost negligible, but in some systems the distortion or loss in resolution is noticeable. The five housing types that account for most security installations are:
(1) rectangular (2) dome (3) wedge (4) triangular (5) wall- and ceiling-recessed and surface-mounted.
Under this condition, there is at least symmetry of distortion, that is, the primary effect is that of a weak lens producing a small change in the focal length of the total lensing system and is usually not noticeable. If the camera/lens pointing axis is not perpendicular to the dome surface and looks at an oblique angle through the dome housing material, noticeable distortion will occur; for example, images may appear elongated vertically or horizontally. If the dome and Wireless Security Cameras are in a fixed position with respect to one another, the distortion is generally less noticeable than if the lens is scanning or tilting while the dome remains still.

The field of view of the camera is determined by a number of factors like the image sensor size, type and the lens focal length. Like a normal camera the bigger the sensor the better the quality of the picture, the better it performs in low light and the wider the field of view it can achieve. A 1/4” sensor can only deliver a 60 to 90 deg field of view while a 1/3” should deliver around 120deg.
90deg is the minimum field of view you should accept, but seeing there are so many units that perform better I would not purchase anything less than 120 deg. 1/3” image sensor and a 120 deg field of view should be your baseline. There are super wide-angle units of 180 and even 210 on the market. Sounds grea,t but these units create a fisheye lens effect and it is virtually impossible to use them to reverse. Imagine reversing by looking through the peephole in your front door, you are guaranteed to have an accident at some point.
3. Screen Size
No matter which rear view mirror camera system display you choose, it’s likely to be smaller than some of the standalone models just because the display has to fit inside the dimensions of the mirror. A smaller display makes it more difficult to see the details in the image which are important in the case of a back up camera display. Look for a monitor size in the mirror of at least 4.3 inches in order to get the best image possible.
4. Video Inputs
Some cameras come with multiple video inputs that can handle the inputs of both a car rear view camera and a car DVD player for instance. If that’s important to you, look for dual video inputs on any display you buy.

With at least four satellites (three for position, one for time) in sight, a GPS Tracking Device is able to calculate its (lat, lon) location with a certain precision and speed, depending on a number of factors. In addition, many GPS devices are able to mark and record (or even transmit) the current position. More sophisticated units allow the user to create and store routes as well as load (digital) maps to be displayed on a small screen. A simple mouse could be considered a GPS representing Position in the software world. GPS systems are becoming more and more prevalent and can be found in a growing number of devices (cell phones). From the abstracted project view, a GPS is simply an arbitrary technical system to enable electronic receivers to determine their current longitude, latitude, and elevation information. Part of our task is to create a GPS receiver for the software world, a GPS unit. Every RO will have a built-in virtual GPS receiver.

Indoor and outdoor camera housings protect Wireless Home Cameras
When very large volumes of video images need to be recorded, an optical disk system is used. Optical disks have a much larger video image database capacity than magnetic disks given the same physical space they occupy. These disks can record hundreds of times longer than their magnetic counterparts. Most video security systems require additional accessories and equipment, including: (1) camera housings, (2) camera pan/tilt mechanisms and mounts, (3) Wireless Camera identifiers, (4) VMDs, (5) image splitters/inserters, and (6) image combiners. The two accessories most often used with the basic camera, monitor and transmission link, described previously are camera housings and pan/tilt mounts. Outdoor housings are used to protect the camera and lens from vandalism and the environment. Indoor housings are used primarily to prevent vandalism and for aesthetic reasons. The motorized pan/tilt mechanisms rotate and point the system camera and lens via commands from a remote control console.

In CCTV, as in broadcast TV, the majority of monitor display units are CRTs, which means they use cathode ray tube technology, designed to convert the electrical information contained in the video signal into visual information. Today, there are many alternatives to CRTs, such as liquid crystal display (LCD) monitors, plasma display, and rear projection monitors, but the most popular are still the CRT monitors.
In a small GPS Rear View Mirror , the entire video system and computer equipment can have backup power provided at reasonable cost. In medium-to-large systems, it is often difficult to justify 100% backup power for all video and security equipment. A judgment must be made regarding which equipment will have backup power, as determined by its strategic value in the overall installation and security plan. Any security system has certain essential camera, monitor, and recording equipment that must continue operating in the event of a power disturbance or blackout. There are other categories of equipment that, while useful in normal security functions, can afford to be inoperative without jeopardizing the primary assets or safety of the facility. Essential items might include access control and identification equipment at critical points around the facility, internal video surveillance cameras in areas critical to the operation of the facility or protection of valuable assets, and any monitoring and recording equipment for these scenes.
