BLING
For this piece, I was inspired by Kenzie. In her caption, she talks about bling, which I decided to spell out in my piece. She also incorporated a lot of gold which I also incorporated into my piece. In addition, she has a red carpet in the background. I decided to use red and green as my contrasting colors. I decided to use red because of her incorporation of the red carpet. From my piece, I wanted to create a sense of expensiveness and bling from the gold jewelry found throughout my magazines. From this piece, I hope to inspire a sense of lavishness within people’s lives. Especially during this holiday season, it is always good to have a little bling.

Inner Dog
In this piece I was inspired by Tristan. In his piece, he put animal heads on humans. I was inspired by this and ended up putting human faces on dog bodies. This was very creative and inspiring. In addition, I used contrasting colors of yellow and purple for my background. I used the colors to create a plaid background. For this piece I wanted to create something that shows that we all have an animal side to us as humans. Sometimes, the inner dog shows. I wanted to create awareness of this in my piece. I hope this piece inspires people that it is ok to let out your inner dog, as it is always important to be yourself even if it isn’t your best self. I also used my dogs to hold up my piece as it was important to convey my message.

Fact 1, the beanie: Beanies originate back to Medieval England. They were once called the Monmouth cap and were an essential part of soldier, sailor, or workman's wardrobes. Its nickname "beanie" is thought to have come from the nickname for the head itself, "bean".

Fact 2, plates: The earliest dinner plate was actually made out of repurposed natural materials (leaves, gourd halves, and shells), before clay was discovered. In addition, individuals were not known to have plates. When eating as a group, there would be a big central plate that people would grab food from.

Fact 3, serving bowl: serving bowls were first constructed by carving wood, stone, and clay. Just as we use them today, they were used for holding food and liquids for consumption. Archaeologists indicate the serving bowl was used in early Mesopotamians, Egyptians, and Chinese cultures.

Fact 4, winter coat: originating in Spain, the coat was considered a workers'/peasants' version of clothing. As travel became frequent, France, England, and Russia also adopted the idea of the coat, but in their own way. In addition, as coats became more popular, they were known to show the status of the person wearing it.

The character that I created lives in the wealthiest part of Charleston, SC. Her house is on the beach, which is a major flex where she comes from. She starts her day with an iced strawberry matcha and ends her day with a glass of wine from the Domaine Roman-Conti in France. She also loves to walk around down town Charleston flaunting her navy Louis Vuitton bag.
Nara (Aziza) Smith, is a social media influencer that showcases her extravagant style while making homemade food. It is so fascinating to me that she makes literally ANYTHING you can think of from scratch. This includes sprinkles. It is even more fascinating that she does thins while wearing very extravagant dresses, and never gets them dirty while cooking.

Activity 1:
For this assignment, I chose my best friend Ben. He is a student at the University of Dayton and plays golf there as well. During this sitting, I learned that Ben is allergic to cats and cannot be around them long. I also learned that he enjoys listening to folk-country music. This included Zach Bryan, but also the older type of folk-country music. Lastly, I learned that Ben enjoys a chill night more than a loud one. He would much rather chill at home and watch a movie than go and socialize. Ben is my favorite person because he is very positive and puts people before himself. He is very good at keeping a conversation and is curious to learn more about other people.

Activity 2:

Activity 3:
For activity 3, we had a very fun pumpkin painting day with a glass of wine. It was very fun getting to know my friends more and painting pumpkins with them! This was very relaxing and beneficial for me. I am glad we got to do this activity together.

For attendance, I chose Brooke's piece. This is because she is starting to find her artistic voice. After looking at her past works, you can tell she has evolved and is beginning to flourish in her art. You can also know that she is starting to become a little more creative! For example, in this piece, her vision came through especially because of her love for lacrosse, which is depicted in this piece. This piece is very creative because it is a skull turning into a lacrosse stick. Overall, I like this piece and think that Brooke is finding her artistic voice more and more!
For our skull piece I decided to try to transform a skull into something that I love, and since I love lacrosse I turned the skull into a lacrosse stick. I made an animated looking skull with a lacrosse ball in its mouth, put one of the most popular lacrosse brands on the ball and had the skull take a little chunk out of it. Since a ball sits in string I put the netting of the 'stick' in the skeletons mouth. I kept everything black and white using different pencils as well as three markers. Whenever I think of skulls I think spooky and to me that screams black and white, I did want a pop of colour and chose for that to be with the stick. I made the main stringing red so it is still a little creepy and then added some strings coming out of the skull as well. The technique that I used for practically the entire piece was putting down different darkness of pencil and then buffing it out with my fingers so it looks smoother and blended. For a final touch I added a net and one singular tree because nothing screams spooky like one creepy tree and then some grass that I didn't buff out as much so it looked more like strands.

For this week's assignment, I decided to depict three hybrids. One person with dog legs, one dog with human feet, and another with a dog head, human hands holding vegetables, and human legs. For my background, I depicted them in a portal. This portal is taking them to a whole other world full of hybrid humans and animals.

When I thought of ways to incorporate a skull, my first thought was having it hold up something. I then thought of a coffee table, which is depicted in my sketch. I have the skull as my centerpiece, transforming it into a coffee table. This coffee table has different thing on it that depicts a spooky, but comfortable fall night. There is hot apple cider, a pumpkin pot of flowers, and scary books. There are also ghosts surrounding the centerpiece to display the spookiness of this haunted night. I decided to keep the theme of spooky, but comfortable throughout my artwork. I also decided to keep it black and white to display simplicity, but also spookiness. I drew this because this type of fall night is my favorite type of night.

I was born on October 20th, which means I am a Libra. On October 20th, 2002. With temperatures in the high 50s and partly cloudy, it was a typical fall day. Maybe this is why I love fall so much.
Being a Libra means that I need balance and harmony in my life. When I think of balance, I think of a beautiful day. This means that the skies are blue, mostly sunny, with only a couple of white puffy clouds, green grass, and some vibrant flowers. Because of this, I depicted a perfectly balanced and harmonious landscape to me.
I then depicted the Libra constellation using items from my perfectly balanced day. This is the balance between clouds and flowers. I also used Helina Metaferia's tip for cutting imperfectly. I then cut a blue piece imperfectly and used it to portray balance in my sky.
Snoop Dogg was born on my birthday on October 20th, 1971.

For my homework assignment, I was inspired by Kristen and Tristan. In Kristen's drawing, I was inspired by the balcony and pillars. In Tristan's work, I was inspired by the way he drew his trees. I used both the balcony and trees in my work. I used Kristen's balcony to make it appear like it was looking over Tristan's field of trees.

For my attendance, I decided to choose Taylor Swift. During the concert, she is seen wearing a sparkly orange top with a sparkly purple skirt. She is also wearing one orange and one purple shoe. This is a perfect outfit for this assignment considering orange and purple are both complimentary colors. In addition, she is wearing both a cool and warm color. Therefore, the use of complementary colors truly makes Taylor Swift pop, on and off stage.

In my piece, I used all different types of warm and cool tones. For the warm colors, I used shades of orange, yellow, and pink to portray the colors of the sunrise. For the cool colors, I used different shades of green to represent grass and shades of blue for the sky.

For this assignment, I used watercolors and colored pencils. The new technique I learned was using a paper towel to pick up wet paint to create clouds. You can see how this is done using the link attached. Once the paper was dry, I used colored pencils to outline the clouds and also shaded the paper.

Final
For my final project, I decided to incorporate Abstract Expressionism, Earth Art, and Pop Art movements. For my background, I incorporated the Abstract Expressionism movement. For this movement, the two characteristics, all over composition and color-field painting. For all-over composition, I liked the idea of making the composition seems as if there is no limit to the shapes and lines created. I used tape to make straight lines, which also separated the colors and gave the white lines no end. For colorfield painting, I decided to use louder colors that might not generally go together. By using hot pink, yellow, and blue, I was able to create a piece with loud, nonmatching, colors.
Second, I incorporated a flower to represent the Earth Art Movement. The New York Art Room by Walter De Maria inspired me to use a piece of nature as the center of my piece. For De Maria's piece, he used dirt as the center and focal point of his piece. For me, I used this white flower.
Third, as I flipped through one of my magazines, I found a repeat of different trees, bushes, and flowers. I decided to incorporate this into my piece. This is seen in the tree, bush, and ocean backgrounds. In Pop Art, sometimes repetition is used to convey a message. I used repletion to convey nature and the beauty that we see in nature every day.

My concept for this assignment was to create a metaphor that addresses the pressures that society puts on us in the digital age. I chose to draw the character Lotso or Lot's-o-Hugging Bear from Toy Story 3. I chose this character because he puts on a very happy and helpful face, but in reality, he is evil. He is a perfect metaphor for the technology and social pressures that we all face in todays world. Looking at technology, there are some positives that it can bring, but also some negatives. Especially through the social media that technology can provide people are acting like others. By doing this they believe this is what is cool. To me technology is evil, like Lotso, because it brings social pressures that would not have been there if it was not for these new innovations.
