Movie Dara of Jasenovac was based on a story of Jelena Buhač Radojičić. What happend after Jelena and her brother were saved by Diana Budisavljević?
"They also put me in one house, my boss was an Ustasha, a black legion. There were 12 children in that house. They put me on a chair and I then talked, said I was Croatian, I don't know why I said that, but I told the same story as I told you, only more vividly. They took me to church, Catholic, I prayed all the time in Catholic way to God, I went to church every night.
Boss, the father of the Ustasha, beat me so much that I had bruises all over my back. My mother came and saw those bruises they made with the whip. I was supossed to look over cows, I didn't say I couldn't, I didn't say I was barefoot and I couldn't but I said I won't, and when he heard me say that I won't do it, he came striked me with a whip, beat me and then his wife chased me to beat me. I had no contact with anyone, not even with my brother, even though we are here together, we are not together. Then when we bathe, I will be 13th in a row for a barrel. When I get lice, I get beaten up because I got lice, and in fact that Ustasha's wife went to him there and got them. I am a person who never expresses my desires and emotions, and when it is difficult for me, I always hide it. I never burden someone with my problems, it's probably from my childhood.
That landlady, when I was employed in 1956, I wanted to go there to see how I lived. She talked all day and night about how Serbs were enemies and disgusting. I couldn't wait for dawn to go back, I didn't even say goodbye, I never went back there."

I even met happy Gypsies - Скупљачи перја (1967) dir. Aleksandar Petrović
"After the premiere of the film in Cannes, a big celebration was held with all the world's stars. I sang that song in front of them, and they fell in love, so they smashed everything in front of them. Suddenly these 'civilized' and cold westerners went completely insane. They threw everything off the table, and I stripped barefoot and dance over the broken glass. Not a drop of blood flowed from me."
"Djelem, djelem" a love song of Serbian Roma, and the text was written by Žarko Jovanović, Roma composer, on the theme of the suffering of Roma during World War II. Only five years after this film, the song was proclaimed the international Roma anthem at the World Roma Congress in London. The song marked this film, but also the career of Oliver Katarina.

[text ID: I am sorry. I am grateful. I just want us to be friends now, forever. Take this bowl of blackberries from the garden. The sun has made them warm. I picked them just for you. I promise I will try to stay on my side of the couch.]

El Hopper in the new Stranger Things 4 teaser
Dear Mike, today is day 185. I think I have finally adapted. I even like school now. I have made lots of friends. Even so, I am ready for spring break. Mostly because I get to see you. We will have the best spring break ever.

Zadušnice in Orašac, Šumadija, Serbia (1954) Halpern, Joel Martin.
Zadušnice include food, which is usually prepared by women. The custom of bringing food to the cemetery is important, even if it was just a glass of water. Memorials are never during Lent, nor do they fall on Lent, because they are always on Saturday. White flour cakes are baked, which are sometimes called "prosphoras". Sometimes it's just pie, pastries, coffee and water. Boiled eggs and roasts are brought out in some places. At least one bite should be served at the cemetery, as is the custom.
Food is offered to the relatives who went to the cemetery, and unknown people are not rejected if they approach the grave by themselves. You offer it to everyone, whether they know them or not, so you should even offer unknown people you meet at the cemetery. It is considered a great sin and an insult to the dead if someone refuses or even drives them away from the grave.

Serbs on photographs of Torvald Mitreiter, 1860s–1870s. Russian Ethnographic Museum in St Petersburg.
Torvald Mitreiter was a Danish photographer active in Russia in the late 19th century, working for the Imperial Court. Between 1879 and 1897, Mitreiter was affiliated with the Rumyantsev Museum, Moscow’s first public museum, which commissioned a photographic album from him. In 1867 he participated in the Moscow Ethnographic Exhibition, with a series of photographs of mannequins wearing Russian folk costumes. Four works from the offered here Mitreiter collection were possibly included in this exhibition. He owned a salon in Moscow, Viennese Photography. Some of his photographs are in the collection of the Russian Ethnographic Museum in St Petersburg.
