I love the thought of older rockstar Eddie Munson becoming popular again for being on Tiktok , but I think it’s funnier if he’s kinda bad at it. Like Eddie’s definitely pulled a Mark Ruffalo and went live without realizing it. The first time it happened, you could sit in his pocket and listen to him work on a new song for forty-five minutes. The second time reminded the world that he was a huge D&D nerd. There were a few times where you’d hear just the most banal conversations between Steve and Eddie. Once you could stare at the ceiling in Eddie’s kitchen from where he sat his phone down and listen to a brief conversation that included ‘King Steve’ and ‘big boy’ and then what is very clearly two people making out. Before it could get further than kissing, you hear another phone ring and then a very loud voice exclaiming, “Damn it, Eddie, turn your phone off!” Eddie Munson’s almost sex tape trends for a month.

so I am primarily an Eddie x Chrissy shipper but I ADORE the Eddie Munson TikTok saga with my entire heart

can we get some more insight into how Eddie was affected by Chrissy in your universe?

I’ve wanted to talk about Chrissy in this AU since the beginning, but I just don’t realistically see Eddie talking about her on his TikTok. Anytime Eddie has so much as alluded to Chrissy over the years, it has stirred up all this drama about that spring break and it always gets back to her family. And he doesn’t want that.

He doesn’t want to remind her remaining relatives of her death. He doesn’t want the accusations that some people still have that he killed her. He doesn’t want to attach all that pain and suffering onto the memory of Chrissy.

She was more than that one awful week in 1986. She was so much more and every time the Hawkins Murders get brought up she becomes less and less a real human person and more just a footnote in a bigger tragedy.

So, he doesn’t talk about her publicly.

So, Eddie honors her in the quiet ways that he can.

He honors her in the tattoo over his heart and in the initials engraved on the inside of the ring he never takes off. He honors her in the silence before every live performance and in all the songs so filled with grief that they’re never performed to an audience.

He honors her in the life he lives.

He tries to at least, because Chrissy is not a ghost that haunts him.

She is a presence that sits beside him. She is the sun warm on his face and tea made just a little too sweet. She is the skip-beat of his heart, the stroke of a guitar, the sadness that seeps behind his eyes. She is an empty house built inside him, and she is the windows he made in those walls, and she is beautiful still. And he misses her. Still

So, he honors her in silent ways when she deserves so much more.

She deserved a life, so he lives his thankful and fully. She deserved the same love that she put into the world, so Eddie never misses an opportunity to show his. She deserved adventure, and travel, and to see a world so much brighter than Hawkins, so when Eddie got the chance. It didn’t feel like running away. It felt like honor.

Eddie knows that he was not always kind.

He knows that he has a capacity for cruelty, that Wayne raised him right but he has shades of his father in him. He knows that for as much as the world othered him, as much as Hawkins ostracized him, he played into it. He othered himself. He grew bristles and thorns young, and he bared them to anybody that got close. He was mean.

He could be so mean, but Chrissy.

She didn’t remember him that day in the woods, but Eddie has always noticed her because she was kind. She was so effortlessly kind to everybody, even to him. She apologized in the hall for bumping his locker. She stopped when he dropped his dice instead of kicking them across the floor.

She smiled at him like he wasn’t a freak, the same smile she smiled at everybody.

She was so kind. It was for everybody. She was kind to him the way that she was kind to everybody else, and it was just… It was never fair. It was never going to be fair.

at some point it's just like. do they even fucking like the thing they're asking AI to make? "oh we'll just use AI for all the scripts" "we'll just use AI for art" "no worries AI can write this book" "oh, AI could easily design this"

like... it's so clear they've never stood in the middle of an art museum and felt like crying, looking at a piece that somehow cuts into your marrow even though the artist and you are separated by space and time. they've never looked at a poem - once, twice, three times - just because the words feel like a fired gun, something too-close, clanging behind your eyes. they've never gotten to the end of the movie and had to arrive, blinking, back into their body, laughing a little because they were holding their breath without realizing.

"oh AI can mimic style" "AI can mimic emotion" "AI can mimic you and your job is almost gone, kid."

... how do i explain to you - you can make AI that does a perfect job of imitating me. you could disseminate it through the entire world and make so much money, using my works and my ideas and my everything.

and i'd still keep writing.

i don't know there's a word for it. in high school, we become aware that the way we feel about our artform is a cliche - it's like breathing. over and over, artists all feel the same thing. "i write because i need to" and "my music is how i speak" and "i make art because it's either that or i stop existing." it is such a common experience, the violence and immediacy we mean behind it is like breathing to me - comes out like a useless understatement. it's a cliche because we all feel it, not because the experience isn't actually persistent. so many of us have this ... fluttering urgency behind our ribs.

i'm not doing it for the money. for a star on the ground in some city i've never visited. i am doing it because when i was seven i started taking notebooks with me on walks. i am doing it because in second grade i wrote a poem and stood up in front of my whole class to read it out while i shook with nerves. i am doing it because i spent high school scribbling all my feelings down. i am doing it for the 16 year old me and the 18 year old me and the today-me, how we can never put the pen down. you can take me down to a subatomic layer, eviscerate me - and never find the source of it; it is of me. when i was 19 i named this blog inkskinned because i was dramatic and lonely and it felt like the only thing that was actually permanently-true about me was that this is what is inside of me, that the words come up over everything, coat everything, bloom their little twilight arias into every nook and corner and alley

"we're gonna replace you". that is okay. you think that i am writing to fill a space. that someone said JOB OPENING: Writer Needed, and i wrote to answer. you think one raindrop replaces another, and i think they're both just falling. you think art has a place, that is simply arrives on walls when it is needed, that is only ever on demand, perfect, easily requested. you see "audience spending" and "marketability" and "multi-line merch opportunity"

and i see a kid drowning. i am writing to make her a boat. i am writing because what used to be a river raft has long become a fully-rigged ship. i am writing because you can fucking rip this out of my cold dead clammy hands and i will still come back as a ghost and i will still be penning poems about it.

it isn't even love. the word we use the most i think is "passion". devotion, obsession, necessity. my favorite little fact about the magic of artists - "abracadabra" means i create as i speak. we make because it sluices out of us. because we look down and our hands are somehow already busy. because it was the first thing we knew and it is our backbone and heartbreak and everything. because we have given up well-paying jobs and a "real life" and the approval of our parents. we create because - the cliche again. it's like breathing. we create because we must.

you create because you're greedy.

“It’s Not About Me. It Never Was”

Listen, I could accept an ending of Ted not ending up with anyone and going back to Kansas if I felt like that would have legitimately made Ted happy……. But, I really don’t think he is. Don’t get me wrong, I’m sure being back in his home state and with his son makes him content, but I think Ted is settling. He’s settling for what he thinks is needed from society/ his family. He’s settling for being just a father and coach and nothing more.

Maybe it’s my own thoughts being projected onto Ted, but i can’t help but feel like Ted is severely depressed and that ending is extremely tragic. If we go with the “dream” theory and/ or Ted imagining what the future holds for Richmond, it’s incredibly sad… because he isn’t there. If we go with the theory that this is Ted’s dream/ image of the future, then we can clearly see that he has low self worth. He legitimately believes that everyone at Richmond would be better off without him.

He doesn’t see all the good he did. He doesn’t really believe in himself. He can’t internalize and really believe that The Lasso Way was what made Richmond so special. Not the Richmond Way, the Lasso Way! Ted was the one to help create a community that values and supports each other. Ted was the one who helped coach everyone into being the best version of themselves. But, Ted can’t see that he is loved in Richmond. He just thinks of himself as a Mary Poppins type; just there to fix what’s “broken” and leave the rest behind…. But Ted can’t see that he is more than a magical, flying nanny. He can’t accept the praise aimed solely at him. He can’t accept the love and support from anybody that isn’t his “nuclear” family.

“It’s not about me. It never was.” What?! This coming from the show that is literally titled Ted Lasso!!! Of course it’s about him!!!!!

Hoping for the Best, Expecting the Worst

Ever since the end of Season 2 of Ted Lasso and “I love our chats”, I’ve officially and proudly worn the Ted/Trent clown shoes.

And now that Ted Lasso will be officially ending next episode, I can say that the following is an expression of my feelings towards the Ted/ Trent ship to be endgame:

Eddie gained a pretty good following before he ever mentioned that he’s married. One day, he’s scrolling his FYP and he sees a Tiktok where someone zooms in on a picture of Eddie and Steve at Max and Lucas’ wedding like, “Umm, why does my math teacher have a picture on his desk with the guitarist from that band my dad listens to?”

Eddie stitches the video later that day where he zooms in and out on Steve grading papers on the couch before flipping the camera back over to himself, “Umm, why is your math teacher my husband?”

I hate writing summaries for fics. Advice?

The long-short of it if you don't want to read all of that, though:

Write the fic for you, and don't concern yourself with what other people will think. Write the story you want to see/read.

Turn off anonymous comments if you're concerned about negative feedback.

Take constructive criticism as NOT insults, but as people genuinely wanting to see you write more and grow as an author.

Write because you love writing, not because you "want to be popular".

Remember: there is no such thing as "too much of one trope". The old "if you write it, someone will read it" is very true.

Don't be discouraged if it doesn't pick up right away.

Don't hesitate to push your story out to people. There are SO many new fics daily on the Ao3 feeds, so it can get lost.
