Hi, I'm Elwin Heslege - physician extraordinaire to the Nobility and to Foxfire Academy. I have been described as "ace", which I think in the human vernacular is a double entendre regarding both my awesomeness and my inclination. He/him/they/them/emotional support stuffed animal pronouns

I just stumbled on your blogs and here are some questions I have for you.
Given how often Sophie and her friends end up in the Healing Center, what's the most unusual injury you've ever treated?
What's your secret to maintaining such a positive and caring attitude, even when faced with so many emergencies and difficult situations?
How do you think the Elvin approach to healing differs from the human approach, and what are the strengths and weaknesses of each?
What's your favorite ripplefluff flavor to enjoy after a particularly long day at the Healing Center?
Thanks for always being there for the gang! 🫶
Why hello! Welcome to my humble Healing Centre!!
I have spoken about “interesting” injuries before here. I think “interesting” and “unusual” probably have enough crossover in the Sophie-related context to for that to count!
My secret to maintaining a positive and caring attitude is two-fold. One, an innate abundance of empathy and genuine care for those around me. Two, compartmentalisation and a strong self-care routine, so that I can protect myself when the empathy becomes overwhelming. It is a fine line, but one cannot care when one’s own cup is empty, so I work to keep mine both protected from emptying in the first place, and also topped up when it runs low anyway.
Human medicine... Where to even begin?!
I’ve spoken about human “health insurance” before here.
I’ve spoken about human vs Elvin medical specialisation before here.
I’ve spoken about the human and Elvin differences between approaches to neurodivergence here (it’s considered “medical” in the human understanding but “normal variation” in ours).
I’ve spoken about human needle-and-thread treatment of stab wounds before here.
I’ve spoken about the differences between human and Elvin amputated-finger-reattachment here.
Essentially, human medicine is deficits-focused, inflexible, invasive, unpredictable, riddled with unwanted and unintended side-effects, and prone to causing the development of medical/doctor phobias and other trauma. Conversely, Elvin medicine is strengths-based, individualised, non-invasive, generally wholesome, and typically heals without the inducement of new traumas (Keefe’s skin-melting experiences aside!).
We aren’t entirely without our weaknesses either, though. We are still learning about maladies humans often treat, like allergies, and I’m told that some of my remedies have less-than-pleasant scents and/or tastes. But when they’re made from ingredients like yeti pee, selkie slime, and pooka pus, what can I really do about that 🤷 ??
All is not lost for those of you who must engage with human medicine, either - in some parts of the human-occupied world, the medical system is beginning to focus on more holistic and person-centred paradigms. This should only continue to strengthen over time. (Except maybe in the US. To any American friends, I am so sorry.)
Oh! I almost forgot to mention! My medicinal practice also has a much stronger focus on emotional support stuffed animals than human medicine does. This is very important to physical and emotional healing.
Now. Onto the most serious matter in your list of questions.
The best ripplefluff flavour is salted caramel. It soothes my body and my soul after a long day of healing - or just after a normal length day of normal day tasks, to be honest.
Thank you, dear Anonymous, for your ask and for reading my long winded response 🤓🥰

It has become known that my taste in music is more palatable than my taste in locker strip flavours.
Allow me to add heavy metal to study hall; I’m sure it will increase student concentration and productivity greatly.
Or, going back to theatre, I am also working on a terrific Les Misérables medley at the moment.
Foxfire feels like..
what is that word Sophie's been using?
ah yes.
Foxfire feels like a hate crime.
#kotlc rp#ask dr elwin#do you hear the people sing#(do you hear the prodigies sing has too many syllables)

Can you send a picture of your stuffed animal????
:)))

This is Boof.
He is not my only emotional support stuffed animal, but he has been my friend for many, many years (so many that I’d rather not count them…!). He’s a little threadbare in places and one arm is longer than the other because I used to pull on it when I was little.
But Boof has never judged me and even now he is still there for me when I need him to help calm me or soothe me to sleep when everything is too loud.

Alright quick question. can elves bring people back from the dead? Also, big fan of the Stuffed Animal project. I got one myself, and it helps
No.
Well, yes, sometimes, but not particularly more so than even humans and goblins can, if the person has only been dead for mere moments and their ceased essential processes can be restarted. Mr Forkle did it to Sophie twice in one evening.
But other than that, no.
Cellular regeneration we do extremely well, so recovery before the point of death we can achieve to a much higher success rate than any other species, even where the injury or ailment would typically have fatal consequences. But once they pass that veil, there is no mortal return.
I love that you have acquired an emotional support stuffed animal and that you are reaping the benefits of their company 🥰

Haha, probably the same two everyone listens to the most (Zombie and Linger?). Bad Wolves do a Zombie cover that I really like - it was the reason I started listening to them in the first place.
I… have not heard of any of those indie artists at all but will dip my toe in the water and see what happens.
Freddie Mercury has a huge range. Massive. It takes a full SSMAA choir just to cover his melody line.
this is Pendleton the Mouse and he was obtained on a trip to Louisiana
he listens to mice artists like Taily Hall and Miracle Mouse-ical (he also listens to human artist doechii but she's the exception, not the rule)
Pendleton looks very happy!
Listening to music makes me happy too (though I have not listened to so much of the mouse variety… more the “everything from heavy metal to showtunes variety”)

Halestorm. Metallica. Disturbed. Five Finger Death Punch (their music not their morals). Bad Wolves. Seether. Evanescence. Three Days Grace. Marilyn Manson. Linkin Park. Rammstein. A bunch of others.
Pretty much most 80s rock (so fun to sing!).
Bon Jovi. Queen (crossover with musical - We Will Rock You). Also don’t mind me some other random bits and pieces: ABBA (another musical crossover for Mamma Mia), the Cranberries, the Proclaimers, Neil Diamond, even a bit of John Denver.
So much music and so varied.

#80s rock is excellent karaoke fodder#so is Neil Diamond to be honest - who can resist BA BA BA in Sweet Caroline#but I struggle to sing ABBA because Agnetha and Freda are soprano/mezzosoprano and I am very much not

I thought it might have been fire, but I see the gold now! I liked its pose and its cheeky facial expression with that look back over its shoulder
random things i drew (plus a few headmate drawings)
The clown lizard is such fun! But I like them all 😊
Hands seem to be a recurrent motif in a lot of your work that I have seen. I like that.
I also like the brush tailed possum. My brain says “Possum Magic the Sequel: Magic Comes from Caffeine” 🤣
