Do you or your followers have any recommendations for someone in the market looking for their first gaming PC?

Look for at least 2.3 GHz and 8GB or RAM, but really for modern games you need even higher than all this.

I recommend Nvidia re: GPU because some games do weird things with AMD, apparently.

Here is a really cool site that will allow you to type in specs and see how well you can run different games. When picking out my computer, I used this a lot and found it really helpful. You can also search by specs, so for example, here is my CPU. Type in the GPU and RAM then search for a game, and see how well the computer can handle it, visually:

I also don’t know where you live, but hopefully you won’t be limited by shipping, which unfortunately was a problem I experienced. I’d find a good computer for a good price only to get a message saying it wouldn’t ship to my location. :/
