my blog's not dead :')
I was basically in hibernation getting through the end of intern year. I'm now a pgy2 which is a lot of adjustment to a new role and responsibilities. I'm halfway through my NICU rotation. After that, it's time for my first vacation in seven months and i couldn't be more excited.

Belated pics from my birthday dinner. The lemon + parmesan olives & the pistachio cheesecake were both sooo good

I’ve been enjoying the beginning of spring.
I’ve been on outpatient rotations for the past few weeks and I’ve had more time to do housework, spend time outside, and work on various projects and hobbies. It’s been a much-needed break.

Well…
Turns out the presentation is optional, so I didn’t work on that. Didn’t have time to review NRP in detail either. I did work on my draft but didn’t finish it. Also, reviewed the clinical resources only to be busy the next day and forget to join the Zoom meeting 🥲
At least I cleaned the apartment and did four (4) loads of laundry
this weekend ~
Tumblr media Tumblr media
- slides for newborn nursery presentation
- lit review draft
- review NRP
- review clinical resources for meeting on Monday
not including chores (rip) but excited to have the whole weekend off to work on my Little Tasks

I feel a lot of dread and despair when I consider what my job will look like with RFK Jr as HHS secretary. What will happen with slashes in funding to medicaid, the NIH, NSF. What will happen with certain types of research banned and a gag on the CDC. I fear that medicine as an institution will dissolve—we’ll lose all our centralized knowledge and institutions, we’ll lose our scientific foundation, and we’ll be back to the days of people doing whatever the hell they want and getting to call it medicine. I fear we’ll lose our ability to regulate our own profession (as we began to during covid—see the Tennessee medical board being barred from disciplining doctors who spread misinformation). I fear the most depraved, greedy, and dishonest among us will be rewarded while those most committed to evidence-based medicine and health equity will be punished or driven out. I fear we’ll let it happen—I can’t for the life of me understand why the AMA and other physician organizations didn’t speak out against this, arguably the biggest threat to medicine this century. There’s some hope: several organizations called for the CDC data to be restored, ACOG put many of the guidelines on their own website. But I’ve still been incredibly disappointed with the impotence of what should be a very powerful lobby. Mostly, I’m trying to figure out what the hell I’m going to do. All of this feels so far beyond me. I know I can’t change the world alone, but I just want to make a dent, and I’m not sure where to start.

Café hopping on a cloudy weekend day.
Savoring my full weekend off & tackling some research-related work that I’m getting involved in now that I’m halfway through intern year.
1. Read through project proposals & pick 1 (2, perhaps?) to get involved in
2. Start reading articles for lit review, perform another search of the literature, & start outlining lit review
3. Wrap up initial stage of QI project & submit first steps of implementation plan
