Graded Unit - Women Of Glasgow
For my Workflow and keeping ideas, thoughts and changes in mind, I will be using a workbook I created from A3 paper. This will consist of the following mentioned but more likely to be quite messily done, so I plan to refer back and create a Powerpoint version that will help myself and others to make complete sense of it all.

Landscape Photography - Contextual Tasks
PRT 1
What genre of landscape photography interests you and why?
- Conceptual and Fine Art are what most interest me as I like the factor of seeing the potential in a space, and bringing it to life capturing the true depth within the photograph. I feel a lot of landscape photography sometimes doesn’t grasp the full effect of the atmosphere compared to being there in person, so I like this style for the dramatization helps with capturing the true impact of the area.
PRT 2
Frank Delargy
Born in Scotland and grew up in Scotland, Canada and Southern California. His father loved to take family photos with the Kodak Brownie he had and Frank often ended up behind the camera rather in front of it. During his high school years in California he got myself a 35mm camera and started carrying a camera with him whenever he went somewhere. After graduating with an engineering degree he went with a couple of friends on a trip to Europe and Africa. He ended up staying in Scotland for a while and got a job with Polaroid and eventually ended up becoming part of the photographic technical team as an engineer, not as a photographer.
His interest in photography waned a bit during his working days at Polaroid but he always considered photography as an integral element of any trip that he took and for years would always have the mid-level point and shoot camera as his gear and eventually worked up to entry level DSLR. He retired 6 years ago and set out a retirement goal to learn about and improve his photography as much as possible. Along with that came a step up in commitment to photography and he pursued learning opportunities and jumped significantly in the level of the gear that he uses. He is still on that learning journey.
‘I seek to be able to create not just a reflection of reality, but a merging of reality, imagination, creativity and beauty. Ideally I would like to evoke awe and wonder in the viewer. Awe of the beautiful natural world and joy in the way it is presented.’
I chose this image from his night skies collection. As I feel the detail is incredible, its not often people get to see this kind of thing as artificial street lights block this from our sight. Shows the stars are one of our closest neighbours. It blows my mind something so beautiful is just above our heads and opens so many questions like space is massive, how tiny we really are. It’s calming in a way as I feel many of us get caught up in stresses of life and problems created but this puts things into a perspective in a way brings you back to down to earth (ironically) its not a big deal its temporary. We live on a floating rock!
In terms of the way the photograph is shot is very clever the balance with the road and nature shows how we fit within it. And how we have adjusted and the same way its adjusted with us growing bushes on the sides of the road. The leading lines composition really makes you feel as though you are there. Like travelling without the cost and I think that's something really special.

Editorial Fashion - Optimisation Process
Here I wanted to continue incorporating the rose in different ways with this image I wanted to create an outer body effect almost lucid dream inspired. I used the rose for that pop of red while moving it to create this composition.
Then I wanted a single shot to show her makeup in detail with the bold liner and lip contrast. We found ways of having her wear the rose here we focused on the petals shaping them around the head area.
I chose to also bring in a patterned scarf to experiment with the different textures and create shapes for an interesting composition modest

Editorial Fashion - Optimisation Process
Here I wanted to incorporate a rose into her actual outfit I did this by shooting her first and then the rose to later bring them together and edit in photoshop.
Here I was trying to figure out what size the rose should be that most flatters her but also looks as though it fits in. I had her pose in a way that would accommodate this with her arms out visioning almost a huge ballgown. However, I feel the bigger size isn’t the best as I feel it takes away from the subject and is over baring.
Later I sized it down to a more reasonable size to check what really works. I plan to go in and finalise this checking background for marks in order to have it look as realistic as possible.
We then went onto try different angles: side view
I feel this compliments the subject and the flower perfectly as the way the shadows where planned when shooting the flower separate fit in with the lighting used for the subject.

Editorial Fashion - Mood Boards
Makeup
- Bold blue eyeliner compliments brown eyes really nicely and red or orange lip to contrast with the clothes and background.
Camera Techniques
- Slow shutter speed while using gels and or moving colourful prop around the subject. Not worried about the subjects movement as this helps with creating an outer body effect which I am choosing to base my theme on. Femme Fatale Moments
Lighting Techniques
- One key light and background light just enough to make sure the model doesn't blend into the background
Poses
- As the model will be wearing a flowy skirt I plan to incorporate the movement within the image creating shapes for an interesting composition. I also want alot of the focus on her face and expression.

Fashion Contextual Task
Fashion editorials sometimes include full-page images of a single theme or concept, designer, model, or other single topic. Often, they are fashion photos that convey a story or imply that the photo has a backstory. These might also be used as a photo essay to depict an unwritten tale.
Some elements to consider are location, lighting, the topic and brand being advertised, props, backdrops, necessary equipment, and so on.
Edward Steichen
‘Photography is a major force in explaining man to man’
Edward Steichen was a Luxembourgish American photographer, painter, and curator, renowned as one of the most prolific and influential figures in the history of photography. His Vouge magazine pictures set the 20′s style.
Curious experimental behaviour, eager for the unexpected he admits to making mischief for the camera rubbing his thumb across wet photographs, which he says he turns them into old masters. new old masters.
