thinking about travis martinez again. what’s so tragic about him is that, no matter the outcome of the hunt at the end of s2, it would’ve been devastating and life shattering for him either way: losing nat or losing javi. he ends up abandoning nat in her more pragmatic way of surviving the wilderness for javi, because after lottie senses that he is still alive somehow, despite all evidence pointing otherwise, travis wants to hope and is willing to do whatever it takes to get his little brother back, no matter how absurd it might have seemed to him in s1. but at the same time, as kevin alves points out himself, the moments where travis actually goes against the group and risks his own life are about protecting nat. “nat is the only one he’ll break conforming for”: he fights off the girls so nat is able to escape and he keeps watch so she’s able to mercy kill ben.
