Hi, Nurse Penny. I'm Emmett. I'll be in your office a lot, probably. I get very nervous. I'm sorry in advance for everything I do, but thank you in advance for everything you do.
How's it going, NYADA? I'm Penny, or Nurse Penny, but Penny is also fine. I might've seen a couple of you in my office already, but I figured it'd be a good idea to introduce myself and make sure you all know where to find me if and when you need me. I'm the new on-campus nurse, found of course in the nurse's office, duh, and here to help with any of your medical needs. I'm not new to the profession, but I'm new to working in a college setting, and I'm definitely new to being surrounded by so much talent. Seriously, you're all amazing, and I'm kind of terrified because I can barely sing happy birthday on key, so I'll leave that part to all of you. I hear the school musical is happening pretty soon? So good luck to everyone with that! I hope you all get the parts you want.

Oh. Um. I don’t watch F1. Too fast. Makes me nervous. I usually just practice. Or walk Schroeder. Sometimes I listen to recordings. That’s… most of my weekend. But I’m glad you like it. Sounds fun.
I am a little worried for my obsession with the Formula 1? Like I love it. I honestly do love musicals obviously, more than anything but most weekends having the F1 to watch is just so much fun. Could be the attractive men or the competition that I relate too maybe? Anyone else watch the F1 or is it just me? If you don't what do you do with your weekends?

I didn’t audition. I didn’t know it was a musical either. I thought it was a movie. I don’t think I’d be a mean girl. I’d probably just… leave. Or get shoved in a locker.
So the cast list for this year's fall musical is out. How was I to know Mean Girls was a musical? I am neither mean or a girl.
Ah well maybe there will be a spot for me next semester. Hope everybody's happy with their parts. I wonder what type of mean girl are you playing?

Emmett glanced at the scone like it might have instructions printed on it, then carefully unwrapped it with both hands, buying himself a few seconds. At her question, his shoulders gave a small, almost invisible shrug. “I’ve been… okay. Practicing late. Not great at time.” Her last words made his head snap up, eyes wide for a beat. “No. You’re not.” He blinked, fast. “I just. Don’t know what to say. You’re… good at talking. I’m… not.” His voice softened. “But I like when you do.”
rachel smiled, "eat it however you want," she said, putting her cup of tea to her lips and taking a sip. "how have you been lately? i haven't encountered you in a practice room yet this year, and i've been looking for you, how funny that you'd appear to me off campus." she pushed a piece of hair out of her face. he seemed confused, and a bit shy, well - he always seemed shy, and she genuinely didn't know why because they'd always been friends. "i'm sorry, am i too intense?"

Oh. Um, okay. You don't have to. I mean, if you have to go to your family thing. Or do any of the other busy things you have to do. Uh, no, I'm not joking.
Please. The only thing inconveniencing me at the moment is my grandmother requesting my company for the millionth family gathering. Not that I don't utterly adore my grandmother - BUT I'm a busy gal, you know? I pinky promise you're not an inconvenience. I'd LOVE to spend time with you!

You're totally joking, right?!

Emmett looked up like a deer caught in gentle, overly friendly headlights. His mouth opened slightly, then closed again as he scrambled to process both her presence and the fact that she was holding a scone for him.
“Oh. Um.” He blinked, then pushed his cello case off the second chair with a quiet thud. “Yeah. Sure. You can sit.” His voice wavered, not from reluctance, but sheer bewilderment.
He glanced at the bag, then at her, then back at the bag. “Thanks. For the… scone.” He paused for a long moment, unsure of what to say. “I can try to eat it gracefully. If that helps.”
TAGGING → rachel berry & @emmettstephensontm
LOCATION → coffee shop near campus
TIME FRAME → thursday morning
NOTES → rachel goes for her morning coffee and orders a scone for emmett when she spots him sitting at a table.
"hi," rachel says, approaching emmett's table with a brown bag in hand, "do you mind if i join you?" she asked. "i feel like i see you here and there, but we never get to talk, and so...i bought you a scone. i can't eat them because i'm vegan, but i figured watching you eat one would be the next best thing?"

Oh, it's not that. I just don't want to inconvenience you.
I try not to have goals. This way, I'm not disappointed when they don't happen.
Well, as much as I'm a keen bean, I don't want to force you! Not too much, anyway. It's totally up to you. Swing me a text when you'd like an audience and I'll try my best to arrange my schedule accordingly.
Moving away from bridges, how are you feeling about this upcoming year? Do you have any plans or goals in mind?

Yes, definitely.
I agree with you on that one, if you don't enjoy it it makes it worse and just makes it feel so long and boring.

Oh. Um. That’s… very nice of you to say. I don’t really brag. I’ve been doing a lot of flat scales. Like Db and Gb. Nothing fancy. Just. Trying to get them clean. You can come by if you want. I don’t mind. I’ll probably apologize a lot, though. About the bridges… I don’t remember much. One collapsed. That’s all I’ve got. Sorry.
You say 'just practiced' as if it's the tiniest, most minuscule detail at ALL when it's totally revolutionary. You are honing your talent and perfecting your craft, Mr Stephenson, and you should absolutely be bragging about that. Which scales have you been looking at? The E harmonic minor is a personal fave, for obvious reasons. It's been months since I've heard you play. I'd love to swing by when you're practising and listen. Only if you're happy for a one-lady-audience.
No details at ALL about bridges? Not even the smallest fun fact for me to memorise and recite at a party? Boo!

Oh. Yeah. It makes it easier, I think. When you like it.
Oh that sounds nice, I will definitely look into checking out at some point. I am glad you like it, it is always better playing something you love.

Um. Mostly music stuff. Cello rep, chamber ensemble, theory. That kind of thing. I’ve got a gen ed too. Something about math. I don’t really know.
Glad you're excited to be back. What do you take then? Thanks. I hope you do too.

Oh. Um. No, not stupid. It’s a cello concerto. By Elgar. It’s kind of… dramatic? And sad. But in a good way. I’ve been working on the first movement, and it’s hard. But I like it. You should look it up on Spotify.
It was so nice, such a lovely summer. Oh that is good, glad its going well. What is Elgar concerto? I might be being really stupid but I don't think I have heard of that.
