Liam had insisted he cover his eyes with his hands, but that was a few minutes ago now. Steven was happy to go along with it though, because Liam had been bright orange and practically vibrating since the moment he'd woken up and he knows that means his Angel is excited about something.

Steven knew exactly what it was, Liam was excited about what today was; the Half Gem's 20th birthday. For some reason, Liam always hyped up his birthday every year since they started dating, which he found absolutely adorable.

It was just about to turn midnight, which meant technically, today was his birthday. His 17th to be exact.

This was Steven's first birthday away from home and he was actually looking forward to having a slightly more laid back celebration this year. The clock on his phone turned to all zero's and a little pop-up message attached to his calendar came up on the screen. *"Happy Birthday, Steven"*

He smiled softly at the little message. It really was, because he knew that he'd get to spend the day with Liam, all day, just the two of them! Steven couldn't wait!

Okay, did she just try and call him her "Nephew" ? That was so sweet... He couldn't help but smile and give one of her fingers a hug when she said that. The Diamonds have come so far and he was so glad that things between them could be better.

"Thank you Blue!"

Steven pulled back from the hug and looked up at her, he'd forgotten just how tall all the Diamonds were compared to himself. But he happily talked away, glad to be spending time with his family again after such a long break from them.

"It's great, I'm having such a good time, I didn't know Yellow could dance like that!" He couldn't stop the laughter then. "How are you? And how's everything with Homeworld?"

Another year, another birthday.

Steven had been traveling for the better part of the last 5 or so months, but there was one thing he promised he'd come back to Beach City for. His 17th birthday. The Gems said it was just going to be something chill, but somehow it had spiraled into this big "Welcome home/Birthday party" combo.

He liked big parties, so it could have been worse. And of course the Diamonds came along too! He had just grabbed a soda when he was approached by Blue Diamond.

"Hi Blue, thanks for coming all the way from Homeworld for this, you didn't have to." Steven said with a soft chuckle.

How does Liam always find a way to be so cute? The pink hue of his eyes, the loving way his hands cup his face, the tender kiss he places on his lips; it all makes Steven's heart flutter. He returns The kiss in a heartbeat, wrapping his arms around the Angel, to pull him in closer. The way he feels when Liam's holding him... it's as close as he gets to floating without using his powers.

Steven was just about to unlock the car, when he heard a voice rip through the night, filling it with a sudden cacophony of noise. It had been such a shock to him, that he didn't really have time to process what was said, all he could do was turn around.

"Huh?"

The next thing Steven knew, he was being tackled to the ground, setting off a bolt of panic through his body, he didn't have time to react as his assailant was already on top of him. Two bright, almost glowing, blue eyes stared directly into his own, the shock of being pinned down so sudden was keeping the Half Gem in place. Even more surprising, this person actually introduced themselves with a, rather friendly sounding "Hiya". So Steven couldn't help but reply back in kind, albeit with a touch more hesitation in his voice.

"H-Hi...?"

Another late night at Little Homeschool, the sun was already fading behind the skyline and Steven Universe was just walking up to his car. Twirling the keys absentmindedly around his finger, humming to himself.

The dusk air was still, the only other sound that filled the air was that of the crickets, and distant ocean waves. Nights like these were supposed to be relaxing and tranquil, but perhaps fate had something else in store for the half Gem that evening?
