Addictions

I debated whether to post this but I could use some advice. To hear other's thoughts on the matter.

The individual is my only sibling - my brother - R.

He's 52. Has abused alcohol and drugs. Also has ADHD. It's been decades of ups and downs.

Over the years I've waffled from helping to completely cutting him off from my life. On one hand I love my brother and, as siblings, enjoy that sibling connection, but on the other hand, even aside from his addictions - he just seems to be completely indifferent to other's expectations or assistance.

Lately we have had him in our home. 2 months. Rent free so he can get himself established AGAIN. He has a hell of a good job and they look after him well - use of a company van, cell phone and gas card. He's a journeyman refrigeration mechanic so he has great earning potential. We are trying to get him on a budget - something that is crucial to a person dealing with ADHD - and trying to come up with solutions for him to protect himself against his own reckless impulses.

This past weekend we had a family event to go to 8 hours away. He also made the trip out - in his own vehicle (actually his company van). He was supposed to return on Monday. It's Wednesday and no sign of him. He's only been there for 2 months. He took Friday off as well. He told me he was broke. How can you be broke when you make no rent payments, car payments, phone payments or gas? He also owes us some cash that we loaned him and he has only pd $500 towards that.

I haven't helped him in 5 years, but then this year I thought maybe it would be different. Please tell me if I am wrong here - but 2 plus 2 isn't adding up to 4 - is it?? Something is very wrong here. He is taking advantage of us, his employer and anyone else to fund his habits or otherwise reckless spending impulses.

Oh, I should also mention that my mother is 100% an enabler and has bankrupted herself helping my brother over the years. Even when I put up the boundaries and refuse to help him - he can always go there for help. I've tried to tell her to let him hit rock bottom but she won't listen.

Sometimes I can't stand the dysfunction in my family. My own little family - husband, 3 kids, grandbaby - are all doing great. We help our kids but only when they show us that they are doing all they can to provide for themselves and plan for their own futures. There is no way I would allow 1 of them to live at home rent free while not using that opportunity to better themselves.

Why do I continue to get sucked into this with him?? I guess I want to much for him to get his act together - but regardless of addictions - it's absolutely rude/asshole behavior to continuously take advantage of those people in your life and not get it together.

Pure hatred

I usually avoid posting older things, because I think there's always more to be found, provided you give some time to proper and solid research.

However, this photoshoot for Entertainment Weekly (released in November 2017, already!) is very telling and always will be.

His usual mannerism before kissing scenes, in full motion. Whatever for? That was not part of the series shooting per se:

Her finger gently caressing his shoulder. Whatever for, if not for a shared moment, where they simply forgot or didn't GAF about being filmed?

Who the hell acts like that, while working? And no, don't give me the 'actors (C, S, Lassie the Dog) are touchy-feely' bullshit. That is more than touchy-feely or acting provocative with your 'gay friend' (oh, how convenient!).

That's so unprofessional, I could cry. Unless... unless 'whatever this is' between them is so overwhelming, it can never be completely castrated, nor covered up.

Yeah. Pure hatred, I am telling you. But people were not duped, just brutally assaulted when the entire plot turned very strange, to say the least.

To my eyes, every time either of them discuss their characters in relation to the other person, their posture and speech sounds guarded and careful. Both thinking how to describe something by slipping in how they didn’t work together or see each other, etc., for an extended period of time, to keep on with the narrative. One is talking, the other staring downward listening and planning how to respond correctly. Deflection. The problem is they both do it with too much emphasis that it sounds forced instead of believable. Just my impressions.
