On January 31st, 2022, Twitter exploded.
The Emphasis Twitter account, five teasers in and dominating every K-pop trending topic, uploaded the final video. The title read: "EMPHASIS_MEMBER_SIX.MP4"
The clip featured a MYDOL trainee named Josie Lee, her name flashing boldly across the screen as a hip-hop dance track played behind her sharp moves. Josie was instantly recognized as the former center and "designated aegyo machine" of IZ*ONE and Chloe Lee's baby sister, officially making every Lee sibling a working idol again.
The transformation was jarring for those who remembered her debut as Produce48’s first-place winner, a ranking long shadowed by speculation of vote rigging, though that wasn’t the focus now.
An hour later, Josie’s face was officially revealed on the fresh EMPHASIS Twitter account. The caption, with replies turned off but pulling in 20.1k quote retweets and 15.8k likes, read: "SIX / SIX. EMPHASIS. 02.09.22"
The internet erupted. IZ*ONE fans were split. Some celebrated her comeback in a completely new form, while others claimed Mydol was intentionally courting backlash by putting her alongside such a controversy-heavy lineup.
They would uncover several facts about her:
first-place winner of Produce48, debuting as center of IZONE*
keeps a polaroid of her childhood dog tucked in the back of her phone case
known for her high-pitched laugh during variety shows
speaks conversational japanese from IZ*ONE’s japan promotions
has a habit of tapping her index finger against her thigh exactly three times before walking on stage
has a habit of humming to herself when stretching
is a massive boy group stan and has pictures with every major boy group, dating back to when she was a child
KNOWN TRAINEE PHOTOS:
The response to Josie’s reveal cemented Emphasis as one of the most talked-about pre-debut projects in years. Some saw her as the ace in Mydol's plan, the perfect closer to a lineup designed for attention. Others saw her as the final straw in a debut that felt more like a PR experiment than a music group.
Whatever it was, Mydol didn’t seem to care.
With all six teasers live and the February 9th debut locked in, the only thing left was to see...
Can they live up to the hype?

On January 29th, 2022, another post hit the towers.
The Emphasis Twitter account, now four teasers into a debut cycle that had everyone glued to their timelines, uploaded a fifth video. The title read: "EMPHASIS_MEMBER_FIVE.MP4"
The clip featured a MYDOL trainee named Minah, her name appearing in clean, serif text over the dance practice video where she danced to an unnamed hyperpop song that would go viral on TikTok, being called "the pretty girl's song."
For years, Minah had been the face of Korean high fashion, a staple brand ambassador, and a regular on magazine covers. The transition from modeling to idol trainee was something nobody had seen coming.
An hour later, Minah’s face would be officially revealed on the fresh EMPHASIS Twitter account. The caption, with replies turned off but racking up 17.2k quote retweets and 13.4k likes, read: "FIVE / SIX. EMPHASIS. 02.09.22"
SNS exploded. Fashion circles mourned the loss of one of their brightest stars to the chaos of Kpop, while others celebrated the crossover, calling her “the future of idol visuals.”
Netizens dug through her TikTok feed, re-uploading everything from couture runway clips to videos of her trying on wigs at a party store. Mydol stans pointed to her as the group’s guaranteed IT girl, while antis questioned whether she could actually sing or dance outside of a carefully curated shoot.
They would uncover several facts about her:
made her runway debut at 15 for seoul fashion week
has walked for luxury brands in paris, milan, and tokyo
keeps every model pass and backstage lanyard she’s ever been given
once dyed her hair neon orange on a dare during a photoshoot
known for live-streaming her skincare routine at 3am
has a habit of wearing sneakers with couture looks off-runway
was scouted for idol training after being spotted dancing at an afterparty
KNOWN TRAINEE PHOTOS:
The response to Minah was equal parts fascination and skepticism. Could a model with international acclaim really adjust to the relentless grind of idol life? Was her addition a strategic move to cement Emphasis as a high-fashion, high-visual group, or was she another headline meant to keep people talking?
February 9th was just around the corner.

On January 27th, 2022, something happened. Something unexpected.
The Emphasis Twitter account, already a battlefield of stan wars and debut theories, uploaded a fourth teaser. The title read: "EMPHASIS_MEMBER_FOUR.MP4"
The clip featured a MYDOL trainee named Bliss, her name flashing in playful, animated text as she danced inside a mirrored practice room to an eccentric electro-dance song with J-pop flair.
K-pop survival show fans recognized her instantly. Bliss had competed on Produce48, ranking 20th before elimination, an elimination that many viewers to this day insist was the result of vote rigging.
An hour later, Bliss’ face was officially revealed on the fresh EMPHASIS Twitter account. The caption, with replies turned off but pulling in 15.6k quote retweets and 12.1k likes, read: "FOUR / SIX. EMPHASIS. 02.09.22"
Reactions across SNS were swift. Some welcomed her as the first female member, making Emphasis an official co-ed group, while others were already bringing up past rigging debates and the company’s track record with girl group talent.
Old Produce48 veterans rushed to her defense, claiming this was her rightful second chance. Others accused Mydol of banking on the rigging controversy to hype the already controversial debut.
They would uncover several facts about her:
born and raised in bangkok, thailand
was one of the tallest contestants on produce48, standing at 172cm
rumored to have been scouted twice by mydol before officially signing
still owns the notebook she used for korean lessons during produce48
known for her “four-leaf clover” wink she did in her audition clip
trained in contemporary dance before switching to idol training
once went viral on thai twitter for her airport fashion during a MYDOL trainee showcase in japan
KNOWN TRAINEE PHOTOS:
The response to Bliss was a mix of excitement, suspicion, and renewed interest in Emphasis’ debut. Some saw her as the group’s ace and visual. Others claimed her addition was proof the lineup was being built for maximum discourse.
Theories multiplied; Was Mydol planning a perfect 3:3 gender split, or would Bliss be the only girl? Would her past on Produce48 be a badge of honor or a target for antis?

On January 26th, 2022, it happened...again.
The Emphasis Twitter account, now two teasers deep into its polarizing rollout, uploaded a third video. The title read: "EMPHASIS_MEMBER_THREE.MP4"
The clip featured a MYDOL trainee named Son Daewon, his name appearing in clean, bold text over footage of him in a dance practice room, performing sharp, fluid choreography to an R&B-pop song. For longtime music fans, his face was instantly recognizable: Daewon had been the drummer of the indie rock band All Dogs from 2017 until 2020, when he was abruptly removed from the lineup.
His exit was surrounded by theories. While the official statement gave no concrete reason, only that it was for "Personal Reasons", fans speculated it stemmed from a toxic, high-drama relationship with Onjo, All Dogs’ lead singer and lead guitarist. The rumor mill painted them as inseparable offstage and volatile behind the scenes, fueling the belief that his removal was something much deeper and messier.
An hour later, Daewon’s face would be officially revealed on the EMPHASIS Twitter account. The caption, with replies turned off but a staggering 14.3k quote retweets and 8.9k likes, read: "THREE / SIX. EMPHASIS. 02.09.22"
Many debates would happen on SNS, not just about his ability to transition from drummer to idol, but about whether Mydol was exploiting his past for hype. Some saw him as a redemption arc, while others called him a walking PR disaster, much like the previous member, Juyeon.
Maybe their concept was HR violations.
His fans resurfaced old behind-the-scenes clips and posts to support his “setup” claims, while his critics delved into every detail of the All Dogs drama.
They would uncover several facts about him:
his apple music playlist history once leaked and it was just 40+ songs from 2010s American pop punk bands
was spotted working part-time at a music store in hongdae after leaving the band
uses the same cracked black phone case he’s had since 2018, even after changing phones twice
recorded several unreleased demos in 2021 under a pseudonym
allegedly turned down two other company offers before signing with Mydol
known for wearing the same silver chain at every public appearance since 2018
KNOW PRE-EMPHASIS PHOTOS:
The response to Daewon was sharply divided. To his defenders, his inclusion was proof that talent and resilience could outlive scandal. To his haters, it was evidence that Mydol was chasing controversy at any cost.
Whatever the truth, Mydol wasn’t backing down. Daewon’s teaser photo was added alongside Chance and Juyeon’s, solidifying half of the lineup as one of the most talked-about rookie groups in years.

On January 25th, 2022, it happened again.
The Emphasis Twitter account, still riding the fallout from the Chance reveal, uploaded a second teaser. The video was titled "EMPHASIS_MEMBER_TWO.MP4" with a heavily monitored comment section.
The video featured a MYDOL trainee, apparently named Juyeon, whose name appeared on screen throughout an energetic electronic dance track. Under normal circumstances, it would’ve been standard rookie teaser...
But these weren’t normal circumstances.
Within minutes, K-pop Twitter identified him as the former owner of CozyChloe, one of the biggest Chloe Lee of VENUS' fansites from 2018 to 2021. In the running for one of the biggest Chloe fansites, the account had mysteriously gone inactive the previous year. Now, fans claimed, we knew why.
The comment section exploded. Chloe stans accused him of “betraying” the fandom to chase idol clout, while others labeled Mydol “desperate” for debuting a supposed sasaeng. Old fansite tweets were dug up, fancam footage was dissected, and airport shots were re-analyzed for hints that Juyeon had been planning this all along.
An hour later, on the fresh EMPHASIS Twitter account, Juyeon’s face would be officially revealed.
The caption of the tweet, which had the replies turned off, but had a staggering 13.7k quote retweets and 10.2k likes, read: "TWO / SIX. EMPHASIS. 02.09.22"
Many debates would happen on SNS, dissecting Juyeon down from his talent to his fansite past. While the hate was loud, really loud, he would also attract a niche group of defenders who argued his experience behind the camera gave him an “eye for performance” and an appreciation for idol stagecraft. These defenders would dig up facts about him:
he once followed Chloe Lee to 16 different airports in one year
sold his DSLR camera to pay for additional dance training
his old fansite watermark appears in over 800 photos still circulating online
his personal twitter from 2017 was found, with tweets complaining about other fansites
once tweeted “chloe lee deserves better” during an awards show he attended as a fan
rumored to have deleted over 50k fansite photos the night he signed with Mydol
KNOW TRAINEE PHOTOS:
The response to Juyeon was polarizing. To some, he was living proof that anyone could go from stan to stage; to others, he was a walking PR disaster.
Juyeon was either a wild card destined to tank the rebrand or a calculated pick to drive attention. Threads dissected everything from his trainee skills to his airport fan etiquette, while others still argued that the hate was still engagement.
February 9th, 2022.
Emphasis was coming.

On January 23rd, 2022, something happened. Something jarring.
The Emphasis channel was wiped. Given that it didn't have much on it, what remained was gone. Dust. Poof. Only reuploads of Emphasis's MVs keep their short-lived legacy alive.
Then at 7:30 KST, a video was uploaded. The video was titled "EMPHASIS_MEMBER_ONE.MP4"
The video featured a MYDOL trainee, apparently named Chance, whose name appeared on screen throughout a short, hype-driven track that, under normal circumstances, would've landed with K-pop stans, but these weren't normal circumstances.
The comment section was instantly taken over by Emphasis stans, girl group stans, and bored Twitter users eager to join in on the drama, mercilessly dragging Chance.
An hour later, on a fresh and new EMPHASIS Twitter account, Chance's face would officially be revealed. The caption of the tweet, which had the replies turned off, but had a whopping ratio of 12.4k quote retweets and 9K likes, would read: "ONE / SIX. EMPHASIS. 02.09.22"
Many debates would happen on SNS, dissecting Chance down from his talent to his looks. While the hate was loud, very loud, he would attract a tight-knit group of followers who would uncover several facts about him:
he’s from chicago, but tells people he’s from seoul
his mom runs a nail salon and sasaengs found the instagram, commenting “raise your son better” under every post
he once bought six different flavors of pringles in one trip and tried them all in the subway station
his kakao profile picture is a shirtless mirror selfie cropped at the chin
his cousin posted a tiktok with him and deleted it after people flooded the comments hating on chance
he has a mole on his back shaped like a heart
allegedly got rejected from another company’s audition because he wouldn’t take off his sunglasses indoors
KNOW TRAINEE PHOTOS:
The response to Chance was instant and volatile. For every curious onlooker trying to piece together who he was, there were ten Emphasis stans fuming over the company’s decision to erase the group’s history for what they saw as a half-baked rebrand.
Theories spread fast, some swore this “ONE / SIX” concept meant a full boy group replacement, others claimed Emphasis would relaunch as a mixed group, and a vocal minority clung to the hope that the original members might still be involved somehow.
Chance was either the first sign of Mydol’s downfall or the centerpiece of a calculated rollout. Threads dissected everything from his dance skills to the mole on his back, while others argued that the hate only proved Mydol had already won. People were talking, numbers were climbing, and every retweet, even the hateful ones, was free promo.
Meanwhile, Mydol showed no sign of flinching. They doubled down, plastering Chance’s teaser photo across their official channels and making it clear: Emphasis, in whatever form it was coming back, would debut on February 9th, 2022.

POSTED ... DECEMBER 12TH 2021
It’s been almost six years since EMPHASIS faded from the K-pop scene, but a new trademark application by Mydol Entertainment has Sweetpeas and curious netizens buzzing.
On December 12, industry insiders noticed that Mydol Entertainment officially reapplied for the “EMPHASIS” trademark, covering usage for musical recordings, entertainment services, and merchandising. The news comes nearly a decade after the group’s 2014 debut and over six years after their quiet disbandment in March 2016.
While neither Mydol nor any former members have commented, fans are already speculating about the purpose behind the filing. Could this be the start of a long-awaited reunion comeback? Or is Mydol preparing to relaunch the brand with an entirely new lineup, perhaps as a rebranded girl group paying homage to the once-beloved name?
For those unfamiliar, EMPHASIS was a short-lived but impactful girl group under Angelico Entertainment, initially intended to be a “sister group” to powerhouse boy group PRIORITY. Debuting with a unique dual-concept format, they quickly stood out in the crowded 2014 girl group landscape.
Their debut mini album EMPRINTSIS gave fans the infectious “Feel Special” and the bubbly “Du Du Du!” while their sophomore release EMFACT delivered two of their biggest hits, “FANCY” and “LOVE BOMB!” The latter comeback was a breakout success, making their sudden year-long hiatus and eventual disbandment all the more puzzling.
Following their official goodbye single, “Pinky Swear”, EMPHASIS seemingly vanished from K-pop history. Angelico quietly removed most of their content, leaving only official MVs online. Over time, the group developed a “nugu but not nugu” legacy: not unknown, but never fully given the chance to become the household name they could have been.
The members have since gone in wildly different directions, some thriving as soloists or in new groups (like BAEBI, Piper of Sugar n’ Spice, and Chaewon of PRIMADONNA), others leaving the idol industry entirely for acting, streaming, or behind-the-scenes work.
What do you think, Sweetpeas? Is this a reunion, a reboot, or just a business move?
[+1,234, -56] If it’s not OT10, then what’s the point? 😭
[+987, -42] if this means the girls have to work with jinhwa again count me out keep them far away from that man
[+984, -65] let’s not forget angelico literally lied about mijoo’s age so she could debut at 13… disgusting
[+854, -38] sweetpeas do not let nostalgia make you forget how badly they were treated
[+812, -65] Watch it just be a rookie girl group using the name for clout 🙄
[+609, -21] Sweetpeas, we might be EATING after 6 years omg
[+588, -30] The fact Angelico erased them from history still pisses me off.
[+551, -44] yall are crazy if you think jinhwa is letting akiko step foot in the mydol building 😭
[+477, -25] If they’re relaunching Emphasis I hope it’s to give the girls the send-off they deserved.
[+420, -18] ot10 or nothing but even then they deserve better than a nostalgia cash grab
[+399, -15] priority getting to live while emphasis had to die...my first kpop heartbreak
[+375, -12] if this turns out to be a rebrand with rookies rip to the real emphasis
[+355, -12] I will boycott if Akiko isn’t included tbh.
[+299, -19] priority stans need to sit this one out yall were weird back then and you’re still weird now
[+268, -14] If it’s just a trademark renewal for business purposes…I’ll cry
[+241, -11] if this is a reunion i hope priority isn’t anywhere near them those “collab stages” were creepy af
[+210, -9] the music, the looks, the choreography… they were ahead of their time
