It's weird how some are annoyed about the success of Pokemon Go when Ingress existed already. However, none of these critics do seem to understand the thematization differences between Ingress and Pokemon Go.

Pokemon Go is a friggin' Pokemon game every 90ies kid wanted as child. Even when people, who were never involved with Pokemon in their youth, seemed to be interested of it. Players are capturing content that is specifically designed for the game (despite this content have existed for few decades now). While Ingress is...how to put it nicely, just UI graphics slapped the most conveniently to each other. It does suit with the thematization of the game, of course.

Yet how easy it really is to find players to be invested that the abstract, shiny objects really are what they are claimed to be? That is a lot to buy in sense of thematization. With Pokemon Go, there is no disbelief of thematization, there's a freaking rat that shoots thunderbolts from its cheeks right front of you.

For once Pixar’s short movie was better than the feature length movie (SPOILERS I think?)

I know many didn’t like “Lava”, the short movie which can be seen in beginning of Inside Out, but honestly...I found it bit disturbing how much more clever it was compared to Inside Out. At least in visual sense.

Yes, I wasn’t big fan of Inside Out since the main character is an asshole. Not an asshole like in Blades of Glory, or asshole in Wet Hot American Summer or asshole in Arrested Development. No, those characters, which Poehler had played know they are assholes, but here..it was vile, man, vile! It just didn’t deliver enough good pay off for being such an awful per- emotion to another. I guess you have to look the movie from other lenses than overly optimistic ones.

(Althou I have to admit, it was clever to see how Riley’s dad and mom had different emotions more charge.There it fell flat because I would have rather seen Riley’s mom’s or dad’s emotions dealing with stuff. But nope, HAPPY, EVERYONE WANTS TO BE HAPPY. Well, I don’t so...hard to relate. It would be interesting to see how Finnish audience reacts to this movie, because, yeah, it’s so overboard with the happiness aspect for my taste.)

But the worst was the visual design. I’m usually overly excited, when watching Pixar’s movies for sheer cleverness of environment and character design. Lava movie, where there was two fucking volcanoes doing NOTHING but standing, yet they managed to portrait everything essential between their relationship. WITHOUT FUCKING MOVING ONE BIT. 

But with Inside Out...what the fuck is this shit? Yay, you can do realistic fuzzy as well as blobsie texture now, but what happened to the actual character design? You know, making the characters look wildly different from each others rather than just with the new color? Considering that movies best character design was Bing Bong and that just a fucking mess says a lot about the visual inspiration of the movie. 

Also the environmental design was bit disappointing; you could have had far more personal, far more intimate world to be excited and grateful that some people did it. Yet, it falls flat on sterile, obvious, dull solutions. I rather would liked to see Pixar’s interpretations of San Francisco than Riley’s headlife. And again, way too much concentration on how cool texture staff they have. Yay, but this is a freaking movie, not a tech demo.

Again, it’s not bad, but it doesn’t really offer anything new or exciting. Better than Minions, but only because there was the short movie.

Interesting take on special effects and I’m on board with this theory. Like Mad Max, you feel the fucking heat of the desert. With Smurffinahontas - err, Avatar, it’s just not really there. It’s shame, because it looks really interesting and cool world, but while the environment is screaming “FAKE, FAKE, IT’S FUCKING FAKE AND YOU KNOW IT!”, it really demands too much effort to get invested in that movie (especially with not so great acting involved). I have to say thou it might have done the trick, if Avatar had been completely animated movie rather mishmash of live-acting and animation.

While some might condemn all special effects being just utter shit, I would argue there is good ones too, and hopefully people working on them sure know this weakness. So it’s not all that bad shape in the uncanny valley...!

Since everyone else in city of Haarlem have been bugged by Magic Mike XXL's posters for past few weeks, I've been tormented the similarity of it to something. Someing exactly, because I couldn't pinpoint exactly what was so similar to these posters until few weeks ago on holiday. I saw Taschen's Tom of Finland at small shop in Brighton (which weirdly sold Tom of Finland- AND Moomins-stuff) and that gold lettering on top with those overly buffed guys...yep, I see what you did there, Magic Mike...'s marketing team? Art director? Poster designer?

It's still a movie, where they try to pull Marky Mark as an inventor. Which was a laugh riot. Then again Stanley Tucci yelling "Oh my god!" worse than Tobias Fünke should be some sort of achievement!

Although I admit, I kind of liked how Thomas Lennon was practically Reno 911's Dangle without shorts and James Bachman being James Bachman in it.
