Meet Lizzy
Tumblr media
Lizzy is in her final year as a law student at the LSE. She is currently (at the time of this post) our managing director and this is her third year as an active member of LSESU Enactus. She co-founded and led the Creative Cycle social project in 2013/14, and has participated in numerous regional/national competitions. Here's her story...
Enactus has been one of the most inspiring and meaningful things I have done during my time at university, and I am so thankful that my brother introduced me to such an amazing organisation.
Enactus isn't just another charity- volunteer-like organisation, it actually does things which significantly improve other peoples' lives. It also helps you as a member where I have learnt many different types of skills and meet many different types of people with Enactus.
Tumblr media
Without Enactus I would not have realised how much I can do for other people through setting up my own project and seeing it actually succeed. The proudest moments are definitely the ones where you feel that you have positively impacted the lives of others in a lasting way which simple monetary donations or otherwise cannot achieve.
Tumblr media
As Enactus' favourite quote likes to say 'Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.' This quote truly represents what I think my Enactus journey has been like these past 3 years, and I hope it continue to do so for others in years to come.
What's your story? Share it with us.
Be sure to follow us on Facebook and Twitter.

MT Week 8: Recruitment for Inspire and Project Updates
Dear members,
Hope you all had a great weekend!
Please find the content of this newsletter below.
Contents:
Recruitment for Inspire social project
Updates on social projects
Updates on commercial projects
Relevant Enactus Tumblr Image of the Week:
Tumblr media
1. Recruitment for Inspire social project
We will be launching the Inspire youth services project that aims to educate London youths with essential soft-skills, such as Public Speaking skills or any other skills that members of the project team could offer. The project will begin by pitching to and forming partnership with youth organizations, followed by the team designing, organizing and teaching courses in partnering youth centers.
This is a new project - we are looking for individuals with entrepreneurial spirit, and genuine interest in the process of setting-up a new project, event execution all the way through to seeing the progress of our students.
Please email Wilson at [email protected] to express your interest and for more information!
---
2. Updates on social projects
i). Creative Cycle
Tumblr media
The project is planning to introduce the 'Denim project' that will serve as a platform for women to learn enterpreneurial skills. Right now the training programme has reached its half-benchmark and the team is planning to start one - to - one tutoring in Lent Term.
ii). Gates to Knowledge
The team has made progress in developing the training materials for the mothers in the programme, with the component on nutrition nearly complete. We have also created an Excel tracking sheet for the school to fill in to update us periodically on the progress of the garment production. In addition to project tracking, we have also added components to understand the improvements in the women's lives before and after the project.
iii). Pathways
The Pathways team is working on developing the materials for their mentoring project this week, and will be meeting with attendees of the St. Mary's Youth Centre this week to receive feedback on the project so far.
iv). New Chance
Tumblr media
The team met with the CEO of Westminster Befriend a Family charity. The charity works with families, including homeless families, which mostly consist of single mothers and their children. The CEO and the volunteer manager are very keen to work with Enactus. The needs assessment will be carried out this week, during one of the ‘Coffee mornings’, organized for the beneficiaries by the charity. The team aims to find out if the women have more requests.
v). Hope Community
The Hope Community project team has conducted a needs assessment through interviews with the Director of Bounce Back and pilot questionnaires with ex-offenders participating in the charity. We are in the process of contacting other charities to conduct face to face interviews with ex-offenders. We're also sampling training materials and contacting other Enactus teams running similar project.
---
3. Updates on commercial projects
i). Bubble tea project
Tumblr media
The commercial project was launched on the 20th of November (Thursday) selling hot drinks from 12-4pm and was profitable after deducting all the relevant costs incurred in setting up the booth. We are constantly seeking for more alternative ways to improve the sales to make higher profits for the upcoming sale.
ii). Storage project
The storage unit and van are booked already. The team will go to Passfield, Roseberry and Carr-Saunders to distribute flyers every two weeks. Currently, we have received subscription for 12 boxes and received payment for 6 boxes.
iii). Memeory project
Tumblr media
The team has confirmed events on the 29th and 30th of November ("MVoice") as well as on the 6th of December ("Hope of the Night"). The keychains have been ordered and are expected to arrive on Sunday; the selling price of keychain was determined to be £3.5 per piece and £15 for 5 pieces.
iv. Executive Ambassadors Club project
This project is still in its initiation stage.
---
Hope you have a great week!
All the best,

Grantham Training Weekend 2014
Enactus.
Entrepreneurial, Action, Us.
This effectively sums up our fantastic weekend in Grantham. After the weekend, I am convinced that it wouldn’t be an overstatement to say Enactus can and will make our university experience a more than amazing one.
If you decide to go for the training weekend next year, expect to meet passionate alumni and genuine peers, expect to pick up new soft-skills and new business networks, and expect to contribute to an electrifying atmosphere.
Friday:
We touched down in Grantham on a rainy Friday night, which was a stark contrast to the vibrant atmosphere in the assembly hall. The night started simple for us, with the usual icebreakers, an introduction to the weekend’s agenda, and a hearty dinner. What followed afterwards was more unorthodox though. The whole of Enactus UK huddled around a giant bonfire under the night sky, complete with *free* drinks (mulled wine, beers, whatever you'd like!) in our hands. It was a great start to a great weekend; a night of merriment, music and dancing under the night sky.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Saturday:
Despite the great start on Friday, Saturday was truly the highlight of the weekend.
You’ll be surprised how much you can pick up in a such a short amount of time. We started our morning with outdoor games to "warm us up". It did not. The weather was freezing. But the warmth and enthusiasm of our fellow Enactus peers did help to warm our moods. Afterwards, we then split up into different knowledge streams for different seminars, Asuka and Kim went for the Presidents/Vice Presidents stream, Kelvin and Kelly went for the Management Positions seminars, while Jenny, Gowtham, Theodore, Wilic and I went for the introductory stream Project Leaders and Members. That was when the real knowledge gaining began for us.
Tumblr media
Everyone was given an attractive array of seminars to attend, ranging from recognising the importance of and how to conduct a needs assessment, to employment skills, public-speaking tips and project management techniques. Each seminar lasted between 30 mins to an hour, and we had full flexibility in which seminar to attend in each stream, and I was deeply impressed with how much you can learn in just 30 minutes.
My favourite seminar was on Waste Management. Rather unorthodox, the key emphasis of the seminar was not to see waste as a liability, but to turn it around, and see it as precious resource. To see it as an income-generating asset which can sustain lives through entrepreneurial action. We saw first-hand, past successful examples by Enactus Sheffield in turning rotting avocados into soap, and factory byproducts into sanitary towels, dramatically improving the sanitation conditions in an African village. Other teams also spontaneously came up ingenious ideas on how we can turn things we thought as waste into a product benefiting lives.
We ended the day on a high note with a formal dinner. The canteen was turned into a beautiful dining hall, and everyone dressed up and looked our best. Our long day of learning ended with an array of wine, beer, cocktails and shots. There was also a lot of silly dancing and conversations with people you’ve never met!
Tumblr media
Sunday:
Sunday morning repeated similar to Saturday morning with outdoor games, but given our late night the day before, many of us skipped the high elements games. (Sneaky)
The remainder of the morning was split into a massive Enactus UK photo taking session, and reflection sessions on how we can improve Enactus back at our own universities.
Enactus LSE came back from Grantham with new perspectives on how to approach our projects, and new ideas of how to engage LSE and our wider community. We can’t wait to share our thoughts with you, and I hope this has inspired you to go for Grantham Training Weekend 2015!
Tumblr media
Please rest assured that no matter your degree or future career choice, you will learn something new about how businesses work, you will meet passionate, genuine peers, and you will learn so much more than the theories we learn in our classrooms.

Step Into Our Shadows
Tumblr media
A lot of things happen behind the scenes at LSE SU Enactus. I'm sure you have a lot of questions about us. Questions like "hey, how are you Enactus peeps able to stay so cool and awesome?" or maybe "hey, how are y'all able to accomplish so much and change the lives of so many individuals while having fun?"
Honestly, we don't have a simple answer as to why we are superhuman, but since we are nice people, we would love to give you the opportunity to step into our shadows and witness our acts of superhuman-ism-ism first-hand. There's no catch (unless you are not from LSE or if you are in your 3rd year, then too bad. We have reserved spots for the younglings. We would still love to talk to you though - just avoid talking about Matt's bowling skills!).
We have lots to offer (FOR FREE OF COURSE). You, and members of the legendary Shadow League will be given the opportunity to try out different roles, attend our superhuman league meetings (it is apparently called Business Advisory Board!) and Enactus UK training events to amplify your abilities.
Think you got what it takes to be awesome?
Check out the available positions below:
President - overall management of the society and overlook all activities.
Managing Director – ensure the continuous development of our projects and is in charge of day-to-day running of the society.
Corporate Relations Executive – maintain relationships with our business advisors.
Commercial Director – in charge of commercial projects which generate revenues for the society.
Secretary - sending out weekly newsletters and organising meetings/events.
Finance Director - management of society’s budget, responsible for generating revenues from sponsorships and grants.
Media Director – management of the society's web/social media infrastructure; and its marketing/branding materials and strategy.
Then, drop an e-mail to [email protected] with your name, year of study and the position you are interested in.
Feel free to contact us using the e-mail above or via our website if you have any questions.
P.S. If you think this post sucks, then I whole-heartedly apologise for making your eyes bleed and perhaps you should apply as the Media Director. If you think it's awesome, I can teach you my ways ;) ;)
Be hasty! Our deadline is coming real soon.
