HELLO FANS OF ENAISTYPING !

Life is good, things are looking up! As of late, I've FINALLY gotten a job now that I am back living at home (I am actually at work typing this rn...). It's just a desk job but it pays decent and I am happy with it for now.

I LOVE MY CLASSES ! It's so silly to me that I am so much happier with my community college classes than when I was at an actual university. They are so much more interesting and engaging! I am currently taking a Java/Python Programming class, an intro to computer systems class (which is basically a masterclass on everything technical within a computer system) and communications/public speaking class (which is actually also super fun!).

Happy New Year!! <3

I've been very busy with big life changes recently. The first big change I've been dealing with is that I've decided to transfer schools. A lot of it is academic but some personal choice as well. I was not doing well in my classes and my mental health was taking a toll as well. I am very upset after making this decision, but I know transferring is going to be much better for me on all fronts. I am a bit excited though to start something new and scary. It is definitely going to be out of my comfort zone.

I am still going to be studying cyber security at my new school, and I am very excited for the classes there too. They honestly look so much more fun than my previous university because there aren't a ton of filler classes and random lectures I have to waste my time on. I also have a few friends that I've been rekindling friendships with that go to this new school. I am very sad to be leaving some of my best friends behind but I know we will remain friends and that this is going to be a net positive for my future.

I start classes in a week or so and I am struggling through the enrollment process still, I am really trying to get all of my credits transferred and classes squared away before the first day of classes. It is so scary thinking I won't get to enroll on time but everyone at both universities have been very helpful through the transfer process.

I am really looking forward to having a more quiet life and finally being able to DO THE STUFF I WANT TO DO. I feel like I've wasted some time, but I keep reminding myself that this is all one big learning experience and I still have time to make mistakes. This is the time to make mistakes and learn what you want to do with your life.

Helloooo everyone! Many people have been wondering where I've been (which is so touching .... ya'll I had no idea you guys actually kept up w this account so much <3)

Basically what has been going on with me the past month or so... I've changed majors. It's a very scary and a big decision for me, but it's to be expected in university. I was admittedly a bit upset and felt like I gave up on my dream .. but honestly I think I am going to be much happier doing.... CYBER SECURITY !

The reasons I've decided to change from Computer Science to Cyber Security:

I am doing terribly in my math courses this semester. Being very honest with myself, I know I would be struggling through the higher level math courses in Computer Science if I had to.

I have also found that I very much struggle with coding (even though I love it so much). I have found that I am much slower than my peers at problem solving and coding in general. The only way around this is to practice more, which I know. However, the coding courses for cyber are much less intensive and more along the lines of the stuff I am interested in learning about.

I am already working on a cyber security certificate with Google Coursera which I LOVE working on. It is genuinely the best part of my day to be able to work on this course in my own time. So of COURSE I have recently realized how much I really do like learning about cyber security.

I am excited to start next semester, but I am quite worried about the end of this semester. Unfortunately, there is a chance that I will not pass one of my required classes and I will need to retake them. However, I have already planned out what to do in this scenario and I am prepared to work even harder next semester.

It is almost finals season, but I will try my best to keep this blog updated more often than not. (՞ ܸ. .ܸ՞)

Today was extremely productive for me!

I was able to lock in to over 4 hours of coding today (which is not super normal for me), so I am extremely proud of myself for putting in an extraordinary amount of effort into something I love! Once I was able to work on just coding today, it reminded me why I love it so much; which is something I really needed. Recently I have been really doubting my skills and love for computers, but after today I really got my spark back.

In addition to working on school projects, I finally decided to start working on LeetCodes. I haven't used it before, but I think it will be great practice and I'm super excited to try it out. (This is probably something I should have started much sooner, but at the same time, it's never to late to start!)

Tomorrow I have an internship fair, hosted by my university. It should be a great experience to talk to recruiters and learn about companies I could intern at in the future. Last year I went to my universities internship fair, however it was online, so it was much easier to talk to the recruiters when they weren't face to face... I am planning on finding somewhere to intern soon, as I'd like to have an internship by next summer.

Finally something academic related that ISN'T computer science related (since I know I have some followers from langblr). Today in my German class I got to write an essay, which I LOVE to do. Our essay prompts were related to relationship vocabulary, so I got to write about my boyfriend. It was so fun and I wrote so much but was still the first to get out of class (which I was proud of). I absolutely ADORE writing in and using the German language. I am still considering a minor in German, but I am not sure if I will have the time or energy to do so. This is also my last semester of German (if I don't chose to minor), which I am quite sad about. However, I will definitely continue to practice and study on my own out of school!

Update from the last week or so:

School is going somewhat well; I was falling behind in some of my classes for whatever reason but I've managed to catch up and stay on top of things, which I found is very difficult for me sometimes. I struggle to stay motivated to work on homework and put the necessary time in for studying, but it is important to remember discipline >>> motivation. I've found that once I start working on a project for a few minutes without distraction, it pushes me into the working mindset and it is easier to stay focused on that task.

In computer science news:

I have joined two (2) computer and technology related clubs this year!

Linux Users Group : a club dedicated to the learning of everything Linux based. Terminal work to Ricing !

Unmanned Arial Systems Club (UAS) : a club dedicated to drone projects, testing and competing. The main goal of the club is to compete with other drones in professional competitions to land parcels onto specific targets. There are many different moving parts to the club in terms of what one can work on; hardware, software and flying the drone itself! I really am enjoying this club even after two meetings, it is very interactive and I feel very welcomed and encouraged here ! :3

One thing that is difficult about being a women in a tech field with tech interests is that very often I am the only girl at these functions. Luckily there are many people who are welcoming to new members and ideas in these organizations, but it is still a challenge to fit in as a women sometimes.

One final note; a personal project! I've been ricing my Ubuntu desktop with Conky which has been a great learning experience and a challenge. I am so happy with the knowledge I have gained from this project, even though I am not fully done. If anyone has any tips or ideas for ricing with Conky on Ubuntu, please let me know!

Life updates!

I have been so bad with keeping up with this blog it's crazy. I really want to make this blog a high priority this year along with school because I feel that it will motivate me to keep up with my studies in Comp Sci , as well as other things.

I just started back at my second year of university this past week. I am already really enjoying my classes, even though they are all very math intensive. I feel very motivated to do well this year as over the summer I got to shed a lot of weight that I had been carrying with me for awhile. Now I feel like I can have a fresh start this year and I feel more motivated than ever to do so!

I also plan on posting more of my work on my GitHub page (link in my about me). On top of that I am very excited to be using and learning Linux more this year (as it is also a requirement for my classes).

I am already having a blast (and I am already being challenged), but it is all the more exciting for me!

I don't think people realize how absolutely wild Linux is.

Here we have an Operating system that now has 100 different varieties, all of them with their own little features and markets that are also so customizable that you can literally choose what desktop environment you want. Alongside that it is the OS of choice for Supercomputers, most Web servers, and even tiny little toy computers that hackers and gadget makers use. It is the Operating System running on most of the world's smartphones. That's right. Android is a version of Linux.

It can run on literally anything up to and including a potato, and as of now desktop Linux Distros like Ubuntu and Mint are so easily to use and user friendly that technological novices can use them. This Operating system has had App stores since the 90s.

Oh, and what's more, this operating system was fuckin' built by volunteers and users alongside businesses and universities because they needed an all purpose operating system so they built one themselves and released it for free. If you know how to, you can add to this.

Oh, and it's founder wasn't some corporate hotshot. It's an introverted Swedish-speaking Finn who, while he was a student, started making his own Operating system after playing around with someone else's OS. He was going to call it Freax but the guy he got server space from named the folder of his project "Linux" (Linus Unix) and the name stuck. He operates this project from his Home office which is painted in a colour used in asylums. Man's so fucking introverted he developed the world's biggest code repo, Git, so he didn't have to deal with drama and email.

Steam adopted it meaning a LOT of games now natively run in Linux and what cannot be run natively can be adapted to run. It's now the OS used on their consoles (Steam Deck) and to this, a lot of people have found games run better on Linux than on Windows. More computers run Steam on Linux than MacOS.

On top of that the Arctic World Archive (basically the Svalbard Seed bank, but for Data) have this OS saved in their databanks so if the world ends the survivors are going to be using it.

On top of this? It's Free! No "Freemium" bullshit, no "pay to unlock" shit, no licenses, no tracking or data harvesting. If you have an old laptop that still works and a 16GB USB drive, you can go get it and install it and have a functioning computer because it uses less fucking resources than Windows. Got a shit PC? Linux Mint XFCE or Xubuntu is lightweight af. This shit is stopping eWaste.

What's more, it doesn't even scrimp on style. KDE, XFCE, Gnome, Cinnamon, all look pretty and are functional and there's even a load of people who try make their installs look pretty AF as a hobby called "ricing" with a subreddit (/r/unixporn) dedicated to it.

Linux is fucking wild.
