omg apologies i shouldve specified!! yes i want the og phantom thieves to still be there. i think maya would fall into more of a kasumi role, not expressly part of the theives so she wouldnt have that responsibility, but i think she would be like a double agent, exploring palaces as a form of investigation and handling the legal side of things in reality. the only reason i hadnt fleshed it out more is bcuz of my lazy ahh not wanting to think about character relations 😭😭

okay i had an idea (never good) so heres my

ace attorney x persona 5 royal crossover that i spent HOURS writing notes about like a mad scientist

this is your warning for persona 5 and ace attorney HERE RIGHT NOW BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP

so first off to simplify p5 lore/jargon A LOT personas r their manifestations of rebellion/conviction, palaces are how distorted they view something to be, palace rulers are the person whose desired are twisted and how they see themselves cognitively (ie like a bully seeing themselves as the king of the school, so the school would be distorted to be their kingdom) (hopefully this makes sense)

phoenix

okay i dont think phoenix would have a persona, he already has strong conviction in court, no i believe he has a palace due to his guilt about edgeworth aa2 and 1-4, since id imagine hed ||feel he is responsible for edgeworths “suicide”|| and also his savior complex and guilt

phoenixs palace would be a temple, more specifically based off a mayan temple since they have sacrifices/ offerings to the gods. id imagine he believes edgeworth to be the sacrifice to trying to save him from the judicial gods.

phoenix himself would be the priest basically conducting the sacrifice bc as much as he has a savior complex, its not so much god, its more like him guiding people given his job, and he feels responsible for mistakingly sacrificing edgeworth or smth like that

the place that would be distorted for him is probably his office, but the detention center is also a good candidate i considered. other options for the palace itself included a cathedral with a crypt or the catacombs

i mainly thought hed be a ronin from the basis of yk, the steel samurai being his sign of rebellion (im a genius ik) but ronin are historically similar to samurai but technically work under no master (theres gonna be a lot of 1-4 refs here) but are also seen as disgraced in a way from society

his persona after much research was prob musashi (specifically miyamoto musashi) who was a ronin and funnily enough, has a story where he dueled this one guy, kojiro i believe, and albeit some accounts may vary, one states he was hit in the shoulder and then hit in head which killed kojiro and like… mvk much

his outfit would be again, similar to a ronin with some steel samurai elements in between, and his weapon would be a bokkun like the one musashi uses to kill kojiro in the story (i will be designing these later!!)

mayas i had the toughest yet absolute blast to work with

her person is Nephthys, the egyptian goddess of the mummy and night. this is because she is also the god of temples and magic and temples. shes also considered the “head of house” bc she works in a trio responsible for yk, spirits.

trust me i have NOTES on this one. other options i considered was pythia the oracle of delphi for apollo, cassandra from greek mythology who was another oracle, and shivu, the hindu god of spirituality.

another thing that took me a while to decide, her weapon. i ultimately decided on a javelin since its similar to a spear, like the steel samurai AGAIN.

her costume is majorly inspired by egyptian priests, i would like to point out the ANIMAL SKIN they wear which is badass, but also from heptat, who was another oracle egyptian priestess

and thats all!! if you havent figured it out by now i do have a whole timeline im making based off how i said phoenix has a palace but im still working out all the kinks in that

also costume designs will be coming theater near you, soon, probably, hopefully

while reading while basically on borderline tears at one point i was like “holy shit r u in my walls” when u mentioned the penultimate battle. when i was tryna figure out phoenixs palace i put it right before marukis. the reason i think maya would get her persona earlier tho because i was thinking redd white would show up as a cognition in kaneshiros palace and maya, while investigating, would find it during 1-2.

the draft for phoenixs palace is that during marukis reign pearl would send a request through the phan-site being like “hey, mr. nick is acting strange” bc id imagine be a super big fan of the phantom thieves (to the chagrin of maya)

youre a GENIUS for the seven year gap though!!! i havent even thought of that. my first instinct was the give trucy Alice but like… cmon. mad hatter would also be cool since we both seem to be sticking to the alice in wonderland theme. i LOVE your jabberwokky idea though. thats probably the best option tbh. if apollo were to have a persona i think he would fill more of oracles place, so a navi. so, maybe patroclus? how he would unlock his persona tho i havent come up w tho 😭

trucy dragging edgeworth into the metaverse is HILARIOUS though. he enters and apollo is js, there, sorting things out, and hes like “APOLLO AS WELL TRUCY??” and then js like “Oh, hey Mr. Edgeworth.”
