Editor Appreciation

In this issue, we'd like to shine the light on a new editor who's quickly gained a large following of almost 100 followers as of writing

@huesick is, as stated, a newer editor who posts edits mostly related to hoyoverse games and their characters.

Specifically, we'd like to promote their layouts!

As shown above, huesick's layouts feature vibrant colour palettes and beautifully high quality icons.

We recommend that you take a look at their blog to support them!

Why credits are so important and how to properly give them

When editing media with fewer resources, it's common for editors to use fanart of characters. Alternatively, it's also normal for editors to use PSDs made by others. When doing these, it's important to credit the creator.

Credits are especially important because of the attention they bring to creators, especially for smaller ones. This is why crediting is a generally polite thing to do.

So, how do you properly give credit? Creators usually have their own ways they'd like to be credited, but generally editblr users request to be tagged directly, or simply have their name credited in the post or tags.

For fanartists, it's good to provide a user and platform, such as "____ on Twitter".

Editing Tip

Convert to Smart Object is a helpful process in photopea, similar to a folder. However, unlike folders, smart objects take up less space and lag less.

These smart objects act as a singular layer which you can later open in a new project!

It's especially good for editors who are wary about lag whilst they're editing!

Hi! Can I ask about your process? I'm not an editor but I'd like to try it out! It seems like something I'd enjoy, but I have no idea where to start with it. What tips would you give a newcomer?

Hihihi 👾🐛! Here’s a link to a little explanation of my process? I’m not that sure if this is what you wanted but it’s just a very basic run down of my process for graphics, since that’s probably the most complicated!

some tips I’d give are:

general:

-learn from concrit, don’t reject it -know your own skill levels -don’t be afraid to ask for help -set clear boundaries and stick to them

edit-based:

-for colouring graphics, i colourpick from the character to (try to) tie everything together more. -credit is SO IMPORTANT. Give credit to fanartists, to editors, etc. If credit is requested for something you used, give it. -make a promo post! all you need is a little about who you are, what you do, and tagging a few people (you should TOTALLY tag me if you do btw) -colour theory might be helpful? I’m actually not sure about this one because I only know colour theory “for dummies”, but it’s probably something useful! -so many people say “learn photopea” so I too will tell you to learn photopea. I do not know how to use photopea personally, but it’s like a web alternative to photoshop.

To start off with, I usually add a frame into a blank 1000 x 1000 canvas in IbisPaintX. Sometimes I start with a character instead, but usually it starts like this. I find all my frames on tumblr. This example uses more than 1 frame!

I then add in my character! Generally I use a transparent png of the character to the side with images of them inside. This transparent was made by me.

After, it’s decor time!! I also find all my pngs for decoration on tumblr, and I sort of just add them in around the frame. I try to leave as little blank space as possible.

Finally, colourings! I used to post all my colourings separately, but I don’t do that anymore because… they’re made specifically for the characters, not so much general use.

Joining editblr is weird because I have so much motivation now. I want people to send me requests. I want to make stuff. I want to post and like and reblog. I finally have something to do with my day other than scrolling and doodling. And I get to share it with people! It’s awesome.
