I just want to take this moment to fully appreciate first mate Frenchie, who is in fact first mate for 1 whole day against his will. In that time he does nothing Ed asks and helps kill him. Which means in fact he is the most successful first mate ever because he speed ran the first mate arch. He goes from loyal follower to Captain killer a whole 20ish years faster than Izzy. Go Frenchie Go.

"I have... love for you, Edward" what a fantastically fucking unhinged way to confess to anybody. The clear reluctance. The pause, the averted eyes. "I have it" like it's some fatal disease, something he's carrying, something he wishes someone would take away. Perhaps even something he wishes could be....................amputated, one might say

we joke about edizzy intricate rituals but my god.

ed casually telling izzy to take off his boot, the familiarity in their voices while ed gives izzy the gun. like they’re recounting a fond memory. like they’ve done it hundreds of times over.

izzy’s “No, I could never do that.” when stede asked if they killed ed was extremely raw and im not okay about it

despite how long they’ve known eachother, despite how deeply they care for eachother, they’re not able to truly say “i love you.”

izzy tries to to underplay it, making his years of devotion and sacrifice sound like something less. even then, he needs to brace himself before he says it.

ed says it in the past tense. he’s pushed away from love. he doesn’t think he deserves it. he doesn’t think he needs it. the love he felt for izzy could only be expressed through hurt and pain. the only way they can love each other is through tragedy.
