Now comes the most important part! Making sure Syndra’s first prank with her is the bestest most amazing prank ever. Annnnnnnnnnnnnnnnd of course she doesn’t have any ides for an entire village. They could make it seem like they’re haunter by demons, or spirits. Ohhhh a spirit haunting could be fun. Hmmm. “Making them think they’re haunted by angry spirits?”
“If we are haunting them then are they not actually being haunted by angry spirits?” The thought made her smile and Syndra had learned how to garner enjoyment from the gawking fear that she managed to garner from people. “It still sounds amusing enough, did you have any other details in mind or did you simply wish to scare a village of peasants?”

Ahri pouts, but the wagging of her tail gives way her continued glee. It’s exciting, the prospect of having someone to play with. Someone to help her play pranks with. She’s sure they could come up with so many fun things to pull on people. She’ll have to start thinking things up. “Maybe we can pull a prank on a village.”
The little fox certainly did not lack ambition, jumping right to village wide mischief for their first escapade. Syndra had said in jest but Ahri seemed to have latched onto it so she figured why not? It would be a welcome break from the relative monotony that she lived from now and that was why she brought her up to her domain in the first place. “And? What kind of prank did you have in mind?

“Not even one?” Ahri needles, a sly grin curling her lips as she leans forward. Then her sly grin widens, fangs glinting as they’re bared in glee. “Would you help?” Side to side her tail sways slow and lazy, content. It’s clear shes curious, hopeful even. She’s never gotten to play a prank with someone helping her.
Syndra simply responded, “Definitely.” after all it didn’t require much thought to say that she would enjoy tricking people. Being tricked however... “Not even once. People have only ever approached me with fear or desire in their eyes.” Mischief was not a concept that really existed in her life.

Ahri cocks her head to the side, one ear tilting down as the other folds against her head in thought. “Uhm.” The answer strikes her, both ears perking up and forward as her tail wags slightly. “I trick humans for fun.” ‘Trick’ means many things. Sometimes, when trick is closer to devour she leads them into a trap to devour their essence. Other times trick is exactly that, a silly little prank that mildly or excrutiatingly annoys them.
For a fox demon that fed on souls, memory and life force she could be awfully cute sometimes and she couldn’t help but smile at her answer. “No tricks on me, I’ve never been tricked before and I won’t let you be the first.” Her smile pulled back a little further, wickedness on her lips, “Though tricking others is amusing.”

A part of her, one she likes to consider small when she’s so soon after a meal, cackles, the soundless noise bouncing around the cage she likes to keep it in. It echoes, but she tries not to pay attention to the hundred eyed stare watching her hungrily. Ahri is aware that separating herself like this does her no favors but- “Okay.” She tries to push it away with a deep breath and then an exhale. It doesn’t work of course, more eyes just open. Each glowing golden gaze staring deep into her own. A pinkie twitches as she focuses more on Syndra. “Do you only read for fun?”
That question gave her pause, so simple in it’s intent that Syndra had to ponder it’s meaning to her. “I suppose in a sense I do, all reading garners knowledge and to me knowledge is fun.” She gently licked a finger before turning the page and continuing, “Though the knowledge itself is usually quite practical and dry the simple fact of feeding my curiosity is satisfying.” Another pause, wondering if this is how small talk worked, “And you? What do you do for fun?”

Doesn’t need to eat but does? Hm. Ahri’s tail flicks as she tries to understand. It sounds like Syndra can simply feed off the land as she can. Perked up ears return to laying against her head as she glances around. “Just- reasons.” Empathy is annoying, but it’s also interesting. She isn’t really sure if she likes it yet, but the way this body processes the taste and emotion of a soul is so unlike what she remembers.
It seemed like Ahri had something to hide, not that Syndra particularly blamed her - or even cared that much. She had plenty of secrets of her own she was more than happy to keep. “I shall not press the matter. If you decide to eat I am sure we can find suitable quarry, as you said yourself everything else just isn’t enough.” Syndra had no qualms with hunting human like prey, she learned young such was the way of the world.

Syndra believes Elise to be an elegant, cultured person worth her attention. Her eccentricities and more evil actions don’t really bother Syndra. She also believes that even if Elise might be around her for personal gains she’s clever and stronger so it wouldn’t be a problem and the amusement she provides are worth entertaining any ulterior motives she may have.

The Path to Redemption
This might seem like an odd topic to talk about for a character as seemingly evil as Syndra but I feel like it’s important to drive home the fact that current Syndra is an outdated 2D character in her current iteration and has a lot of room for exploration.
Those around Syndra suffered a lot while she grew up and the blame consistently fell squarely on her shoulders and as a child she simply grew to believe them. These things were all her fault, after all these things only happened when her emotions lashed out. It was up to her to learn how to control them by herself, her parents held her at a distance due to fear and resentment.
It was only once she met her Master did she feel hope, even for a second. At the monastery she learned methods to control her emotions and the power that came with them, but it was there too that she learned what it feels like to have a deep trust shattered. All of the pain and resentment she had pushed down and controlled welled up in a way that was a threat to reality itself. This roused the spirit of Ionia to action, imprisoning Syndra for the sake of balance... And perhaps Syndra herself.
In the state Syndra was Ionia could have easily finished her off, put an end to her, but it saw something in her. Her pain and rage brought disaster whether she liked it or not and while neither Syndra nor those around her were ready to handle her power that didn’t mean she, or the world, would never be ready. So Syndra slept for 100 years, reliving the same 30 minutes over and over again.
When she awoke the world was perhaps still not ready to rouse the sleeping calamity but Syndra certainly was. From her cradle she emerged, reborn and ready to seek revenge on those who wronged her and yet she found the world changed, after all 100 years had passed. Long dead were all those who wronged her and their descendants either all dead or scattered to the wind.
With her newfound purpose so swiftly snuffed she was left simply to drift lazily among the sky, making something like a home in the Celestial Fortress. With this newfound idyllic lifestyle Syndra found herself at odds not with her surroundings but her own mind and so once again she resumed self reflection, this time seeking real change.

essence-devourer:
The offer is tempting, but she still has empathy digging its claws into her heart and mind. Empathy that she knows will stay her hand no matter how much the hunger in her gut makes itself known with every beat of her heart. “No, I-” Her ears lay flat as she wars internally with her self control. “Some other time, thank you.” Long ears tilt up and towards Syndra now as she cocks her head to the side. “Do you not need to eat then?”
“I do not need to, not as bad as most do.” First it was because she was poor and they couldn’t afford food, then food became an earthly pleasure required only for sustenance and now that shes finally free to enjoy it - well she was past the point of desiring it. “If I truly begin to fade I can take from the surrounding area as you take from living things.” It wasn’t a cure all but it was a neat trick that kept her going.
“Though... Is there a reason you do not want to eat?”
