I don't think every sword and sorcery fantasy RPG needs D&D-style mimics, but I do think there's value in having something that's incongruously carnivorous, just to keep players on their toes. Pack-hunting rabbits that swarm their prey. Ambush predator sheep. Yes, monsters you can have stupid arguments with are a cornerstone of the genre, but sometimes you've just got to hit 'em with some seemingly innocuous critter which uncomplicatedly wants to eat faces.

In Australia anybody can make free calls from any phone booth, also most phone booths also provide wi-fi.

So many people benefit, in so many situations.

The free phone booths have been so popular and important that new(fancy) phone booths are being installed.

So, amongst the many other weird excuses for bikini armor, and nonsense explanations why buffoons don't believe women could have been warriors (despite the abundant historical evidence they have always fought), has always been this idea they wouldn't be able to or want to put on 40 kilograms of gear and throw down.

honestly sometimes stories where characters have self awareness and solve their problems maturely can be really refreshing sometimes. and sometimes it feels like therapyspeak slop. intense stories where no one is capable of understanding themselves and act out in incorrect ways can be very fun. and sometimes it feels like contrived bullshit. whatever makes "a good story" is harder to make happen than just using the right kind of characters using the right words

One of my brothers has this thing where he likes to be included on sibling movie night but he will not sit down or actually join us, he’ll just wander around the house and periodically show up to lurk in the doorway or lean on someone’s seat

And *I* have this thing where I always always know when he’s there, because every time he’s not wandering around like the ghost of bob marley and isn’t immediately visible it’s because he’s stopped moving to watch the film from directly behind me, which makes the back of my neck tingle like a dog sensing an earthquake

So to summarize, sometimes when my siblings and I get together for a movie night, we’ll all be sitting in the dark in complete silence until my ass deadpan announces “ancient sins” and a 90 pound 5’11” Slenderman looking motherfucker emerges from the shadows behind me like a jumpscare incarnate in Batman pajamas pants and informs me that we are out of orange soda
