Love it when artists portray death and life as the nuanced and vapid things that they are. I love when characters change so rapidly, so dramatically that they question if they could consider their old self a seperate, dead being, rather than just a previous iteration of the same self. I love when one shallowly steps into the void and questions what it means to truly be a living creature. I love nondualist depictions of life, death, and rebirth as part of an ecosystem. Give me more.

The only thing in biology more eldritch than fungus is radiotrophic fungus. Not only is it feeding off the decay of living matter, but the decay of the inanimate too. Like an ancient spirit of entropy has come to preside in the physical world.
SCIENCE NOTE: To my knowledge, radiotrophic organism are still very much hypothetical, and are not confirmed to be extant. Closest I know of is Melanized Fungus in chernobyl, but I'm 90% sure they're just adapted to resist the radiation.
As always, read peer reviewed research yourself.
