usually when people self-medicate it is not that they are treating some biological deficiency. except for me with energy drinks. when I consume one, the thing I am treating is the tragic lack of energy drink in my bloodstream, the faulty guarana-producing organ, the normal level of blood sugar. I take several gulps of monster and it's like, "ahh, finally the missing vitamin"
