So... haha. Um, I am guessing people probably know I'm the first (and so far, only) person to depict this ship, so I do appreciate it being asked about.

Ship It

What made you ship it? Most of the ships I enjoy involve some kind of enmity. I lose interest as soon as tension is resolved and things become fluffy or comfortable, but I do love a good hurt/comfort or angsty story, and I love when there's conflict in a pairing in general. I don't ship "Lilac and Asphodel" (Rookwood x Anne) because it's my OTP or anything, nor because I believe they should be together as a couple nor want to see them involved romantically or even sexually (he's mine!!!), it's just that there was so much unexplored potential, as they are drawn together by an act that changed Anne's life forever and ultimately resigned her to an early demise. The more I thought about it, the hotter the idea became.

What are your favorite things about the ship? The desperation, emotional manipulation, angst, age and power imbalances, size difference, seduction... all those things and more. Of course, this is just how I've chosen to depict the ship, although I think much of that would (or should) be consistent in any story about this particular pairing. Also, as anyone who's read Devoutly may know, it's meaningful to me personally for a variety of reasons. I know a lot of people dislike Anne, and I neither like nor dislike her, but I can relate to her in some ways, and even more so in the telling of the story. Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship? The ship is the unpopular opinion. LOL

Why don’t you ship it? I don't ship Sharp x MC only because I don't find Sharp very appealing. I have nothing against the ship itself.

What would have made you like it? Sharp seems too nice and well-adjusted. Despite the power and age difference, it would be too wholesome of a pairing to appeal to me. Aside from that, I also don't find him very attractive physically.

Despite not shipping it, do you have anything positive to say about it? Because I feel pretty possessive over Victor Rookwood I am sometimes relieved that certain people like Sharp more, especially if they're girls whose Rookwood content I'm not a big fan of.

seriously, simply viewing a fic and not leaving kudos or a comment feels like "someone read my story and didn't like it"

a feel like the new generation of fanfic readers NEED to understand that clicking on a fic (interaction) does nothing. ao3 has no algorithm. your private discord discussions of fic do not reach the authors. if you do not actively engage with writers they will stop posting. this isn’t social media this is community.

What if a five year old paraplegic in a wheelchair could "play Snape"? I disagree fully that the appearance of a well-established character (or person) has "no relevance to the story." It changes everything to make Snape black. We were promised a faithful adaptation. The idea that this would include the appearance/background of characters is pretty basic bitch.

What a travesty, WB. HBO. JK Rowling. Honestly, how sad and pathetic that you felt the need to do this. We can all tell you right now this will be an enormous flop. Do you really think people who are attached to the books and the original series are going to pay money to watch this shit show?
