Eito was intrigued (and confused) as to why Ludger's responses were somehow what he exactly expected. "Enchirito and nacho burrito would go well with it, too."
"As long as that'll be four bucks from Taco Bell," Just Ludger being cheap or relevant to whatever's taken them both over: the ultimate question. "Product placement with Taco Bell!"

"Indeed. The ideal development is like that those of characters from the books I've read. While it will take time, the pay-off will be worth all that build-up. It will not just be helpful for them, but for us as well! I'm glad we share the same wavelength with this."
Eito thought that the perks shouldn't only extend to their beneficiaries. He figured that a good outcome was him unlocking the truth (about everything) with Shuichi. On the other hand, he was thinking about the bigger picture for Takumi. In spite of having nothing going for him on the surface, he showed great potential as a leader. Instead of ruling with a iron fist, Takumi took time to understand someone's thoughts and feelings. Just thinking about it moved mountains within Eito.
Takumi-kun and Shuichi-san, hm? Aren't they quite the 'two peas in a pod' fellows? He could almost compare them to him and Kokichi. But no. Those two looked outward and forward. The "Ultimate Good Bean Unit" looked inward and in any direction they so pleased. Nothing was set in stone, and anything could happen. However, the stone had already begun the tumble; things were set in motion.

"By picking those two, it's efficient- and I think it will be beneficial for the rest of our friends as well." While Eito would like to have given everyone else the same treatment, one hundred days was a tad too short. He simply also had a hunch that these people would have an impact on the Special Defense Unit the most.
"And though I'm being presumptuous, I don't think I'd deserve credit. I'm rather... awkward with it. For me, as long as I've done my part, it's good enough for me." A sheepish chuckle left his lips. The flimsiness of their own partnership was already tested with Eito's "unwillingness" receive credit, and in turn, admit in being complicit. But it was just that: a test for Kokichi. "Of course, it's better to do something rather than be all talk first. Right?"
Kokichi-kun seems to be the only one who can rattle Shuichi-san. Composure is a key asset to a detective, after all. Meanwhile, Eito had different plans for both Shuichi and Takumi. He did bet on the "chaos theory" that would be linked with their unit. The more unpredictable things were for everyone, the better. Just like how Kokichi ran away from Eito without saying a word, Eito had free reign to do the equivalent. Their own unpredictability could also get Shuichi and Takumi to spend more time with them...
He chortled. "Mm. Then, I'll be counting on you, Kokichi-kun. I look forward to more colorful days here in the academy as member of the Ultimate Good Bean Unit." He paused. "I have a couple ideas to start with, but I think it's also about time for us to grab some lunch first, yes?" He figured that there was the ideal location to brainstorm some possible ideas, or just keep chatting the way they did. It was about time to show everyone what they were up to.
It's wonderfully surprising how much power a few names could hold in a conversation.
No, it didn't take a genius to figure out that both Shuichi and Takumi were the persons of interest for the both of them. In fact, one would argue that encouraging both of their growths while the days tick by would ruin a lot of plans set in motion. Yet, what Eito said made a lot more sense. Encouraging their growth not only made them smarter- but a lot more entertaining.
-and that's what they both wanted in the end, isn't it? The thrill of slowly feeding their rightful rivals words of encouragement, willpower, hope, and mental clarity would only make cutting all of that down all the more satisfying. Perhaps Kokichi's mind is running too far ahead of the idea that he and Eito could make the most exciting event unravel at the defense academy- but they do have one thing going for them: Options.
When Kokichi's eyes widened slightly at the confirmation that he could count on Eito, the sudden fluttering of his emotional veil lifted ever so slightly. It was as if one of his hands had come up and tugged on the current mask he wore in this moment and pulled it off entirely.
His smile slowly turned into a flat line full of nothing. Indifference, as he processed Eito's words carefully. Yes… he can work with this. In the end, as long as neither of them were boring, the Ultimate Good Bean unit would have the time of their lives!
Arms reaching back, Kokichi tilts his head.
"Being caught so easily would be very boring… before we know it, the game would be over." A flat toned truth coming from the leader of liars. How disappointing that ending would be. That simply wouldn't do!
"So having Shuichi-chan and Takumi-san hone their skills would make a lot of sense. If we can mold them both to the point where they're at the level of becoming a challenge, then the real credit would be given to us instead. Our influence could benefit over their growth and strength." Curling a thread of hair around his fingertip, Kokichi mused to himself aloud. Eyes glancing back at Eito before the mask slips back on. His expression shifting back to his playful, ever so lovely smile that he usually wore.
"You of all people should know i'm an innocent bystander than a criminal, Eito-chan. Being chased by another person like Shuichi-Chan is but a bonus form of entertainment! So counting on you means you can also count on me to bring their very boring and dull lives into an excitement of color. Only as the Ultimate Good Bean unit, of course, we can make that possible~"
Because what fun would it be without playing this game they have if everything were on easy mode? If there's one thing the supreme leader enjoyed about Eito, it's the willingness to ramp up everything into the most difficult setting imaginable.

@miratenebrarum P jumpscare
"How was he?"
His eyes remained on the painting of Lea and her two students for a little bit longer before he turned to Romeo.
"Carlo. Nobody really ever. . . Told me anything about him"
Asking this is a risk. Asking this is a little scary. But since he read Antonia's letter, since he realized how many people cared about him, Carlo became less 'the dead kid he was supposed to be' and more. A person.
Someone so many missed, but nobody dared to speak of properly.
@miratenebrarum
So, this served as Lea's quarters...
And what kept Lea going was her family. Her everything. Obviously, the painting brought back fond memories for Romeo. It was during a time in their lives when the concept of "looking forward to better and brighter days ahead" used to be the norm.
Nevertheless, in spite of the close relationship they had, there were some seeds of doubt within Romeo's heart. Sometimes, he wondered if she took care of them because they forced her to...
But, now he knew. She loved them, as much as they loved and adored her. Him and-
"Carlo," Romeo heard P say, as were the rest of what left from his lips. The words expressed a question without posing it as one. Instead of feeling nostalgia or yearning in association with that name, he felt guilty.
The former King recalled addressing the other by that name. Doing something so inconsiderate might have caused significant distress to the other. He didn't know better at that time. Still, he could have left an impression that he only saw P as his best friend from his previous life.
Nowadays, especially with his regained humanity, Romeo's feelings couldn't be more different compared to those days. Besides, he remembered how he spent his final moments as a human prepared to end his story on his own terms. He reminisced how it felt warm around Lea's arms. That was enough for him.
It was why he embraced the present, more than he did so than the past. But before he could keep moving forward towards the future with P, he supposed it was just about time to tell him about Carlo.

"Hm... He's a funny guy," Romeo started, chuckling. He could imagine Carlo chiding that of all things to start describing him with, it had to be that Romeo found him funny. "Full of spunk. He speaks his mind; like, no filter at all. Never a dull moment whenever he's around. Quite the troublemaker, too. And if he wants something? He absolutely goes for it. With zero hesitation."
He then placed a hand on his hip, his lips parting into a smile. "Though there were times that he was lonely and angry, he used those emotions to drive him. I believe that was his greatest strength." He felt like one perspective wasn't enough, even if he was Carlo's best friend. It didn't feel... exactly right to do so either. "It's not like I'm going to stand here and tell his entire life's story, though. If anything, this painting tells you all you need to know."
Romeo once again stared at the painting, letting out what seemed to be a melancholic sigh. "Don't get me wrong. I miss him, and I always will. But it's thanks to you that he's been given peace. It's freeing for me, too." His eyes then met P's, as he smiled again. The gaze was full of warmth and mirth unlike any other. "So, really, I'm grateful to you, though you already know that."
A blink. "Actually, I wonder if there's some other way to let you know. If there's anything that comes to mind, let me know. Okay?" he chuckled, before giving P a wink his way.

[Circles of Hell]
Darkness. Eito considered it synonymous to peace. Nothingness. He had nothing to be afraid of anymore.
Then, a voice called out.
"Eito-kun..."
That voice... Eito's eyes widened. "Th-That's how you looked like all along?"
He couldn't believe his eyes. Before him, was the kindhearted nurse who took care of him at the hospital. She looked... human.
So all this time, she looked like an angel sent down from the heavens?
A smile graced her visage. He then became overwhelmed by the sight that he didn't know how or what he should feel in this situation. She was the person who introduced him to books, which changed his sorry, miserable life for the better.
It served as solace, as an escape from the horrors he saw, whether he was awake or not. He only ever had nightmares, so he never seemed to have felt anything remotely close to inner peace. But then, as his mind pictured the words, it managed to be the light in the void where only creatures of unspeakable horror loomed.
She then reached out to cup his cheeks into her hands.
The touch was so gentle, so warm... How come he never experienced in his life until now?
Oh, right. He never gave anyone a chance. They were repulsive, disgusting, wretched, nasty, nauseating creatures for him.
He killed them. He killed them all. With his own bare hands.
E̸̡͔͇̓̐͠I̵͙̞͍̿̒́T̵̪̪̦̓́͝O̴̙̦̽͋-̵̢̡̝͆̈́̿K̵͓͎̪̈́̿͋U̵̙̼̾̓̒͜N̸̡̙͉͑͘͝

It turned out, she was the reeking corpse he had known all this time. Except, she was burned, yet her grip on her face was stronger than anyone he ever encountered. He ought to be used to this. His eyes only ever made him see humans for what they really were.
And yet, he could feel himself clamming up. But, he couldn't scream. Even if the very thing before him seemed hellbent on taking her with him, he couldn't. He wouldn't.
But she wasn't alone. Or rather, they weren't going to be alone. Eito's parents, the doctors, nurses, staff, and other patients... Their shrieks would make it impossible for him to have a moment of peace.
[...]
Darkness. Eito considered it synonymous to fear. Companionship. He had no place to hide anymore.
Worst of all, Eito had no mouth and he must scream.

"Hah! You sure know how to flatter a gal." Momo folded her arms against her chest, wearing a grin on her face. Receiving compliments wasn't a strong point of hers, though she appreciated them when it happened. "But you're right, none of this woulda happened if not for my friends. I wouldn't say it's a work of fate, that's too cheesy. I do believe that 'everything happens for a reason', if that makes sense. Kind of like why my Grandma made me do that ritual back then..." She simply gave a nod, since that part already received its much needed closure.
Seeing Daichi bashful was quite the sight to see. It wasn't often she even saw someone like this, despite barely knowing each other. She sensed that the guy was that pure-hearted. Perhaps that was why she found him easy to get along with. Needless to say, this was exactly the kind of person that her own friends might be able to form a friendship with as well.

"We need more good guys like you. Dunno when doing and being bad became the new cool. That should totally be the opposite!" Hence why Momo gravitated towards Ken Takakura (both) in the first place. "'Sides, it's not like you need permission to hang out with any of us. Since you see 'em like the rest of us, it's a no-brainer that you're one of us, too. We have someone who doesn't attend the same school as us, too."
He had to pull crazy stunts, and he had to wonder to himself how he had survived. Then again, sometimes the craziest plan, with slim chances of success, is good enough if all else fails.
The best way to escape an evil spirit is to fight your way out.
"Hey now! If your friends call you a genius, then you must be one. You don't have to be an honor student, it's more like when something pops into your head, and if it's like really crazy, that it might work. Then you're a genius if you can pull it off!" He said. "It's good to have a party of friends who help you out. It sounds amazing." He wished he had friends like that, just like Momo. It would make adventuring and fighting against evil ghosts less lonely and more fun. He had Eito on his head, who was resting his eyes for the time being. Sure, Eito is always there at his side. But...with other human beings, it's different. He can't explain it!
Then he heard from Momo, telling that he is an unsung hero. The word 'hero' made his eyes widen and lit up. "I...." He has no words, only his cheeks flushed a faint pink. He puts his hands down and has them resting on his knees. "O-oh well...you know, it's nothing! I'm just helping out, you know!"
And she calls him Daichi-kun.
Eh?! What the??
He grips his chest.
No, no, no! Calm down, Kisho. Be a hero! You're a professional!
"I'm just a guy who wants to do some good. That's all!" Daichi quickly said, looking to the side, lowering his hand back on his head. "Y-you know! Heck, I want to join your team, Momo. You and your friends sound really cool!"

From Haruko to Hanamiya: Hi hi! Guess what! I went to that nice shop again the other day and got some chocolate samples, from 70% to 99%! We can find a nice place to sit, like a park or something, and try them! What do you think??
@tsukuharuko
It should be a normal afternoon for the basketball team, changing back to their school uniforms in the locker room. But everything changed upon the reading of a certain text message.
"..."
Hanamiya's teammates were shocked to see an exasperated face from him. These expressions were oftentimes reserved for Kiyoshi or any other player he found a nuisance. But none of them were around, and it wasn't like anyone made stupid mistakes during practice that was worth agonizing over (which never happened with him as captain)...

Tch. Do I look that much of a gullible idiot to her? Although acting and playing nice were his forte, doing it all the time could still get tiresome. It wasn't like he was playing a match where he could derive honey from another team's despair. She's not even trying to hide it. Is this supposed to be fun anymore...
"Whoa! Is this the girl you were talking about?"
"I didn't think he'd even give someone the time of day."
"But why would he look mad? Oh! Don't tell me... He's doing his best to play nice?"
"For once, you might be right."
The comments from his teammates who looked over his shoulder should have gotten on Hanamiya's nerves. Yet, it somehow snapped him out of it. In fact, he was already thinking of ways to incorporate these percentages to the cafe's menu.
What was that just now? Maybe reading a text after an exhausting day does this to someone.
Wordlessly, he typed up a reply in response to Haruko's thoughtful invitation.

[ text ]: Should I bring something like tea? Just eating chocolate might leave our throats dry.
[ text ]: Oh, and I accept your invitation. Thank you for thinking of me
[ text ]: When it comes to chocolates, of course.

( ooc ) I came across this video, and the comments from Japanese fans share the same IQ as Hanamiya's:
Even though he's a trash character, he practices so seriously, saying that he needs the basics to harass others, which was a surprising side of him.
He's probably superior in both intelligence and ability, but he's so scared of Imayoshi, which makes him a great character.
I've always thought this, but it's really interesting that Hanamiya has such a group of friends who are willing to work hard to play rough.
He likes 100% cacao chocolate, calls Yamazaki "Yama" instead of "Zaki," and practices basketball with his team, motivated by seeing the faces of others in despair. "What?! Is that it?!?" is what you'd expect. He's a villainous character, and I love him.
I just like really smart people
The author was also shocked by the popularity poll. I guess there are a lot of dangerous people who fall in love with trash for some reason (I'm one of them).
He seems to be kind to his friends and colleagues. He doesn't ostracize Zaki (Yamazaki), the only one at Kirisaki Daiichi who doesn't play roughly.
They're refreshingly hardcore losers, but they communicate and work together with the team pretty well, they're highly skilled themselves, and it's clear that they take practice seriously, which I think is what makes Hanamiya and Kirisaki Daiichi so popular, or rather what makes them interesting. They seem to find enjoyment and show off their talents in strange ways, but I get the feeling they probably just like basketball.
"No matter how brilliant or genius you are, if it breaks it's just junk"…It was such a refreshingly cruel statement that I came full circle and fell in love with him.
This guy is just plain strong and can score points all by himself lol, even though his team is too weak he singlehandedly turns his school into a powerhouse and he's so strong even though they haven't won any titles.
Honestly, when I think about that worldview, I think he must be the happiest person in life… Because he's untitled, the power balance is such that he could have a one-hit wonder and win against Kiseki, and the environment is set up so that he can play how he wants to.
He's the only one out of the five generals who isn't obsessed with winning or becoming the champion, and enjoys bringing the game to the way he wants, so he doesn't have to keep putting pressure on himself like the Rakuzan group, and he enjoys it even more than Kiyoshi, whose catchphrase is "Let's have fun" lol
As for myself:
Hanamiya is a trash character. He's a genius on and off the court. He is the captain, coach, and point guard of his team. When I saw his teardrop shot, I felt a spark. And then, I found out he's a member of the Disciplinary Committee. He studies at Kirisaki Daiichi, a prestigious school so he is en route to a successful future. He is well-liked by his peers (only Imayoshi saw through his farce in middle school, and his high school teammates accept him for who he is). I found out that his rough play started in middle school because he didn't like the seniors who aren't good players, and just abusing the privilege that the coach's son is among them. He is the only person who sees Kiyoshi as insane and monstrous. He likes 100% cacao chocolate, and liking of sweets/chocolates is not "typical" for guys, but he doesn't care... He is a fully realized and well-rounded character.
(Oh, and his character songs and Seishun TIP-OFF songs are bangers! Shout out to the LOUD cheers/yelling when it was Jun Fukuyama's part in the live concert...)
#( .ooc )#( hmk.headcanon )#( this vid was randomly bestowed to me by the algorithm gods heh :3c )#( i have no time to use the auto-translate on 178 comments pft! )#( like no one has topped hanameme as my fave chara even in my rewatch of the anime )#( some charas became recent faves like midodo and himuro but hanameme stays on top! )#( what a weird way to say 'this is a hanamiya makoto appreciation post' sdjksd )

What?! Gundham couldn't sense the presence of his minions within his scarf. This is highly unusual activity from them... While he had full confidence in his skills, it wasn't like he had these creatures under his thumb. If anything, it was the complete opposite. He catered to their whims without question, knowing that his place was to serve them and maintain a working relationship.
So, when he spotted them catching the attention of another human being, he didn't know whether to feel flabbergasted or bemused. The Four Devas of Destruction weren't usually this audacious to approach another creature, especially a lowly mortal. Thankfully, they could sense if there was any imminent danger. In fact, this realm they resided in was the equivalent of a battlefield. Why they did this was even beyond the Overlord himself, really.
"..." For some reason, Gundham sensed... familiarity with this individual. Or rather, what he might know was based from hearsay of his own classmates. Alas, he was too preoccupied with more important matters than dabbling in pointless chit-chat. Curses! Perhaps I underestimated the knowledge I'd actually be bestowed just from joining them... And it wasn't because he wasn't accustomed to those social situations.

"Behold, human! Your existence is graced and cursed by the presence of the Four Devas of Destruction!" he declared with his usual villainous flare. Whether this person was a figure worth talking about among circles or not mattered not to him. All lowly humans looked just about the same for him.
"However, I am clueless as to why they'd proceed towards the likes of you." He then gave a once-over at the other's attire. It was easy to tell the other wore his team's uniform. "Hm. You seem the type to partake in the strenuous physical recreations of your kind. Though that still does not answer why you became their target..."
@ervaurem called forth Yoichi Isagi!
-...Today's press tour was way, way too early! Isagi thought. He understood that he needed to participate in promotion of the sport to the public, though, and thus he couldn't help but get carried away and say big, dramatic confident declarations to the local crowd as always. He threw out the usual, 'I'll become the greatest striker in the world!' and 'I'll lead our team to victory against the world's best!' among others.
-After all that was done, he'd stumbled out of the building and tiredly walked over to the nearest park. Sitting on the closest bench at the park's edge, he inhaled deeply, fresh air would give back some energy after that showmanship. At least the day was nice-
"...Eh?" he muttered when he glanced to his side and saw something... odd. Four furry little hamsters, all standing together, gazing up at him in unison as if... interested? Weird behavior for little animals like that! Did they think he had food, or something? What were they doing out here, anyway? Lost pets, maybe? He smiled, what a cute sight.
"...Haha, where'd you all even come from...?"

Eito blinked a few times at the sight of Kokichi's hand to his own face. Since he wasn't the best at reading mannerisms, he wondered whether he had said anything remotely funny. But then came the name of the person he mentioned: Shuichi. He formulated a conjecture in his mind, where the anti-thesis to Kokichi was someone like the apprentice detective.
He figured that such a person could get in the way of someone scheming plans with... nefarious intentions. However, like Shuichi said so himself, he was still the equivalent of a detective-in-training. He wasn't like any of those master detectives Eito had read about back at the Tokyo Residential Complex (yet). Furthermore, having someone like him around made everyone feel a bit safer. And for the Ultimate Good Bean Unit, he was another intriguing "beneficiary" to play with.
Just after Eito made his conclusion, Kokichi's expression shifted as if nothing happened. He maintained his friendly and polite expression, watching the colorful animation on his visage and listening to him like he was an audience at a one man show. He was intrigued- and almost something he could call delight, even.

"Heh. It sure feels that way. But I'm glad that's not one of the things that happens because of my condition."
Oh. He mentioned Shuichi-san again. Perhaps his theory was closer to the truth than he thought. One moment later, he took that notion back. He recalled that he was talking to a self-proclaimed liar. Nevertheless, the best move was to keep playing along like he always had. This was what being a member of the Ultimate Good Bean Unit was all about.
He let out a chortle. "You're saying that as if you're a criminal begging to be caught," he stated, pushing his glass up the bridge of his nose. "But... I suppose our apprentice detective does need to hone his skills. We don't want him to get rusty when everyone needs his Specialist Skill the most. What do you think, Kokichi-kun?"
His lips then parted into a smile, placing a hand on his chest, but with full intent of "pledging his allegiance". "And although I'm not as strong like the others to protect you, I hope you can count on me."
@ervaurem {Hiding Spot Thwarted!}
Oh, that was hilariously terrible, the ultimate leader could feel his blood run cold for a split second at the mention of his name simply tagging along in Eito's words. Of everything he was working hard for, Kokichi definitely did not want his beloved detective to ruin anything that he worked so hard in setting up. That would lessen the fun! A disaster that could only spell the end for them if he didn't keep that mouth shut.
A hand comes up to his face, the leader chuckle to himself.
No matter. He'll have a friendly little conversation with him later. Of everyone in this academy, it felt like the detective held conflict between his own words and Kokichi's. Trying to get him to solve something while the others played their little games and wasting their time.
Anyway, back to his ultimate good bean unit that had oh so wondrously found him during his time of scheming-! He practically had to backtrack quickly and hide his plans within the secure pocket of his coat, hands coming back down to move behind himself as he fixes his expression back from irritation to adorably playful. If he was going to win their fun not-so-boring little game of chess, he'll simply be a better useful instrument for Eito to tune. Being useful in their own way while being apart their wonderful team.
"Nishishi~! Eito-chan had worried about me so much that I nearly had his heart burst out of his chest! It wouldn't do anyone any good if you collapsed with a heart attack." He sprang to his feet and tilts his head at Eito. Purple eyes watching him for a moment. Kokichi seemed pleased.
"It sounds like our beloved detective had led you right to me. How resourceful and helpful of him, he'll put me in danger one of these days if you're able to find me so easily. Then poor defenseless little ol' me won't be able to defend myself~ Oh, what to do..." His tone became pathetic, his eyes gently misted with the threat of tears as he looks at Eito. Expecting either for him to come to the rescue and provide protection for him- or to weed through his lies like a gardener.
With how weak Kokichi is... having Eito as part of the Ultimate Good Bean unit AND having someone as strong as him to protect him from being found would have many perks, just like the small moment of bonding they're both sharing at this moment.

"We are living the life. It's not too long ago that I finally got my hands on a TimeZine card." At the so-called achievement, Crispin wore a proud look on his face. "Now I can play all the games I want!"
Basilio let out a scoff. "I thought you were gonna brag something like barhopping to show off or something. I didn't expect you to be the kid-at-heart between us, Kuya." He found it amusing that his older brother would use that example of all things. But, he wouldn't deny using that card to play some games at the arcade as well.
"Better yet, why don't we all go out? A place like BGC seems like the perfect place to just... chill these days." The younger twin heard of the perks of this urban getaway from humans and non-humans alike.
"Or- something like a park will do. There are plenty of restaurants to choose from within the area," Crispin suggested. Traveling to another city within this region was the worst way to waste one's time. Using dragon's blood to travel, on the other hand, was nauseating. It would be a waste of resources as well. "How about it, Bossing? Surely, you can agree to that?"
"I am going to have a break." While it would be easy to fall into a compliance where she actually relaxed, Alex knew there were a lot of things she still needed to take care of. "I know you guys want to do that, but you two are adults now. You should live life a little." Ironic at how she tells them this, when she wouldn't be bothered to go out and have fun like others their age.
But if they insisted, she'd would have probably opted for some time ( read: overdue ) alone. Like visit her parents' graves - the cemetery where their final resting place was located, happened to be not too far away from the Great Balete tree where she once completed her own trials.
A meditative break - it wasn't a terrible idea, now that she thought of it.
"You two should go out," she tried to steer the conversation back to them. She had a suspicious inkling they'd meddle in her non-existent love life, and was stubbornly determined to stop anything they had planned. Alex and love life in the same sentence just didn't ever make sense.
