Online ESA Scams to beware of
I am Joanne Williams, LCSW, again, the manager of Next Generation Psychology, and EsaPros.com. Today’s video is about online scams you should be aware of.I want you to be educated on How to NOT be fooled by these scams and this is the # 1the reason I am educating You.
The ESA Laws are being abused by what I call “internet pop-up” companies...
I have watched thru time as I certify clients for an ESA, how new internet businesses have popped up to with the increase in demand for ESAS.  Not necessarily Psychological agencies, but some internet business, just selling products and selling misinformation,
Tumblr media
Clue #1...
If it is NOT A PSYCHOLOGY AGENCY THAT YOU CAN SPEAK TO A PERSON,If they say that you only need is to register your animal or get a vest, an ID tag or a wall certification, not a psychological evaluation to have a certified ESA, they are not legit. Run.As I originally looked in to the how I could get a certified letter from a therapist or a doctor, I saw a wide array of information of what was needed.  One website said, you only need a vest or a certificate to have an ESA.  Another would say get a letter for $39 online.  (I don't think so...) Nothing really made sense.I did my own research and read and studied the 2 Federal laws that cover having an ESA.
Tumblr media
The 2 laws seemed very clear ... on what was needed.  A letter from a Licensed Mental Health Professional with a prescriptionfor needing an animal to help with a mental health disorder, like anxiety or depressionlike I wanted for flying. AND to have your ESA with you in Housing, once you have the letter, no pet deposits or pet rents, no weight or breed restrictions. So, I went to the internet and found a Psychological service who had done these ESA evaluations for 25 years. I called and spoke to a Licensed therapist who did the ESA evaluation with me over the phone and they mailed me a letter.  As they did the evaluation, I understood, more what is needed to be asked in the ESA Evaluation.I knew I could do a better job and support client’s needs around recommendations for their anxiety and or depression symptoms or continued therapy sessions, than this inexperienced young therapist did. I started doing evaluations with a young start up ESA company who was selling vests and ID cards, who wanted a therapist to do the ESA evaluation for a certified letter.  I didn’t stay with them long, because I could see that they were more interested in selling vests and ID cards than what was truly required; the ESA evaluation with a Licensed Mental health professional that could assist with recommendations beyond the letter.I began to see the misinformation that was being put out in the internet sphere that all you need to do is to register your animal to have it become an ESA. Or selling products over providing the required service of speaking with a Mental Health Professional and having a true evaluation to have the therapist certify that the person has a psychological diagnosis, like panic, social anxiety or specific phobia around flying, PTSD from war or traumatic experiences that significantly affect their life today and that their animals helps them.
To Summarize
For your letter to be legal you must talk to a licensed therapist or doctor. The must prescribe an ESA animal for you.If a company has no way to call or contact them in a timely fashion, that is a red flag.If a company is MAINLY selling ESA products, that is a red flag.Beware of cheaply priced ESA Letters.
Now it's your turn...
Let's know your thoughts below. Have yu ever run across any ESA scam sites? What was your experience?Leave us a testimonial or comment Read the full article

How Do I Make My Dog a Service Dog
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“ The only creatures that are evolved enough to convey pure love are dogs and infants. Johnny Depp
Tumblr media
These are some of the most frequently asked questions that I want to answer today, in as straight forward and factual way, as I can.  There is so much misinformation on the internet, that people may be missing out on an opportunity to have an animal in their life to help them in so many ways, physically, emotionally or psychologically. As a licensed therapist for 30 years, that does Psychological evaluations with clients through Next Generation Psychology at www.esapros.com  we certify people to have an Emotional Support Animal (ESA) or a Psychiatric Service Dog (PSD). The most frequent thing I hear from clients after getting an ESA or a PSD is that having my animal with them is a “life changer”.  So, don’t let misinformation scare you off from seeing if you could qualify for a type of Service dog.
Tumblr media
How do you get a service dog?
1. Service dogs come in many types for different disabilities and they have different laws that govern them. If you have a medical condition, like seizures, diabetes, wheelchair bound or what we are most used to understanding as a traditional, service dog is for blindness.  But there could be many types of medical conditions, if the dog, or a miniature horse, qualifies according to the Americans with Disability act (ADA). What the ADA states as qualifying for a Service dog is: The ADA defines a service animal as a dog that is "individually trained" to "perform tasks for the benefit of an individual with a disability.” The tasks a dog has been trained to provide must be directly related to the person’s disability. Service dogs have extensive training to behave calmly in public and perform specific tasks related to their owners’ physical or psychiatric disabilities. Some states have laws that provide broader protection than the ADA. For example, while the ADA only applies to qualified individuals with a disability, Rhode Island’s law extends those protections to cover trainers of personal assistance animals as well. States specifically excluding PSDs from state definition of service dog This does not mean that the ADA does not apply in those states. It means that psychiatric service dog owners simply do not have additional rights under state laws in these locales. As long as federal law applies, the ADA trumps or “preempts” the more restrictive state law. Here are some resources to find a places to assist you on how make my dog a service dog for your specific disability; These have not been vetted. Please do your own research to find the place right for you. www.ecad1.org/‎ 860-489-6550   www.sdwr.org/‎ 540-543-2307www.medicalservicedogs.org/‎  www.littleangelsservicedogs.org

How to make my dog an emotional support dog
To qualify for an Emotional Support Dog the dog, needs to help the person with a daily functioning, like sleep, socializing or to concentrate better at home or work, etc. And they must have a corresponding psychological diagnosis that is affecting that daily functioning. A Psychological doctor or a licensed mental health profession must evaluate you to determine the diagnosis according the DSM-5 and that the animal helps you with a daily functioning. Once the person is qualified, they will receive documentation from the Mental health professional on letter head stating in the exact language required by the 2 federal laws governing ESAs.  The 2 federal laws are: The Fair Housing Act. (FHA) and the Air Carriers Access Act. (ACAA). The Federal Housing law was instituted in 1973- It states an assistance animal is not a pet. It is an animal that works, provides assistance, or performs tasks for the benefit of a person with a disability, or provides emotional support that alleviates one or more identified symptoms or effects of a person's disability. Assistance animals perform many disability-related functions, including but not limited to, pulling a wheelchair, fetching items, alerting persons to impending seizures, or providing emotional support to persons with disabilities who have a disability-related need for such support.  For purposes of reasonable accommodation requests, neither the FHAct nor Section 504 requires an assistance animal to be individually trained or certified.  While dogs are the most common type of assistance animal, other animals can also be assistance animals. Housing providers may ask- (I) Does the person seeking to use and live with the animal have a disability — i.e., a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activities? (2) Does the person making the request have a disability-related need for an assistance animal? In other words, does the animal provide assistance for the benefit of a person with a disability, or provide emotional support that alleviates one or more of the identified symptoms or effects of a person's existing disability? Where the answers to questions (1) and (2) are "yes," the FHAct and Section 504 require the housing provider to modify or provide an exception to a "no pets" rule or policy to permit a person with a disability to live with and use an assistance animal(s) in all areas of the premises where persons are normally allowed to go, unless doing so would impose an undue financial and administrative burden or would fundamentally alter the nature of the housing provider's services.  Breed, size, and weight limitations may not be applied to an assistance animal_ A determination that an assistance animal poses a direct threat of harm must be based on an individualized assessment that relies on objective evidence about the specific animal's actual conduct — not on mere speculation or fear about the types of harm or damage an animal may cause and not on evidence about harm or damage that other animals have caused. Conditions and restrictions that housing providers apply to pets may not be applied to assistance animals. A housing provider may not deny a reasonable accommodation request because he or she is uncertain whether or not the person seeking the accommodation has a disability or a disability-related need for an assistance animal.  Housing providers may ask individuals who have disabilities that are not readily apparent or known to the provider to submit reliable documentation of a disability and their disability-related need for an assistance animal. However, a housing provider may not ask a tenant or applicant to provide documentation showing the disability or disability-related need for an assistance animal if the disability or disability-related need is readily apparent or already known to the provider.   A housing provider also may not ask an applicant or tenant to provide access to medical records or medical providers or provide detailed or extensive information or documentation of a person's physical or mental impairments. A request for a reasonable accommodation may not be unreasonably denied or conditioned on payment of a fee or deposit or other terms and conditions applied to applicants or residents with pets, and a response may not be unreasonably delayed. Persons with disabilities who believe a request for a reasonable accommodation has been improperly denied may file a complaint. The Air Carrier Act is the other law governing ESAs and was instituted in 1986- it is governed by the Department of Transportation (DOT). The Air Carriers Access Act: “In the Federal Register Rules and Regulations and Guidance Concerning Service Animals in Air Transportation.   In 1990, the U.S.  Department of Transportation (DOT) promulgated the official regulations implementing the Air Carrier Access Act (ACAA).  Those rules are entitled Nondiscrimination  on  the  Basis  of  Disability  in  Air  Travel (14  CFR  part  382). Require  documentation  for emotional support  animals:  With  respect  to  an  animal used  for  emotional support  (which  need  not  have  specific  training  for  that  function),  airline  personnel may  require  current documentation  (i.e.,  not  more  than  one year  old)  on  letterhead  from  a  mental  health  professional stating   (1)  that  the  passenger has  a  mental health-related  disability;  (2)  that  having  the  animal accompany  the passenger  is  necessary  to  the passenger’s  mental  health  or  treatment  or  to  assist the passenger (with  his  or her  disability);  and  (3)  that  the  individual providing  the  assessment  of the passenger is  a  licensed  mental health  professional and  the  passenger is  under his  or her professional care.  Airline personnel may require  this  documentation  as  a condition  of permitting  the  animal  to accompany  the  passenger  in  the  cabin.   The airlines can refuse an assistance or ESA animal if it is engaged in disruptive behavior; shows that it has not been successfully trained to function as a service animal in public settings.  And they can refuse any exotic animals, like pigs, turkeys, snakes or pocket animals.
Flying with Assistance Animals Outside the Continental U.S.
Although foreign airlines must meet the ACAA requirements, many other countries have health requirements for bringing in animals. Except for trained service dogs, Hawaii has a quarantine for animals. However, even service dogs need a health certificates and can only fly into Honolulu. To find the health requirements for your destination, use this pet-travel search tool from the U.S. Department of Agriculture. When you’re traveling internationally with a pet, it’s also a good idea to check with the consulate or embassy of the country where you’re headed. 3.
How to make your dog a service dog for anxiety
Since we have more and more Veterans returning from war, the incidence of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) that’s main symptoms are anxiety and depression, more Veteran are needing a service dog for anxiety or PTSD symptoms.  This would be considered a Psychiatric Service Dog (PSD).  The ADA covers services dogs that can go wherever the veteran goes or anyone with anxiety that qualifies. The Americans with Disability act (ADA) states. What the ADA states as qualifying for a Service dog is: The ADA defines a service animal as a dog that is "individually trained" to "perform tasks for the benefit of an individual with a disability.” The tasks a dog has been trained to provide must be directly related to the person’s disability. A PSD can be trained by a professional, or by you or the animal could intuitively have trained themselves to recognize anxiety in a panic attack or a PTSD trigger and then responds to you by going over to you, lick you, paw at you, or in some way help to calm you, to lessen the anxiety symptoms or help to come back to reality, etc. it will perform that specific task related to their owners’ psychiatric disabilities consistently.

4.
How to make your dog an emotional support animal
Any animal, dog cat, rabbit, or bird, etc. could be an emotional support animal as long as it helps the person with a daily functioning, like to sleep better, concentrate better, or socialize easier and you have been given a psychological diagnosed by a licensed mental health professional and that this animal will helps with that daily functioning and the Therapist recommends you to have an ESA in a letter to use from airlines and housing.  However, airlines are not required to allow any exotic animal on the plane. 5.
How can I make my dog a Service dog
Depending on the person specific needs, you can train a dog to fetch, pull a wheel chair or notice when your blood sugar is low, or notice that you are going to have a seizure. Or you can have them professional trained. Many of the places that train a service dog to assist a blind person, must have specialty training to make sure that the dog can keep the person safe in public or crossing streets. Hence, the cost of thousands of dollars to find and train a specialty animal.  Many prisons have programs to find the type of animal that has the right temperament, and behaviors to assist a person with a physical disability. Here are some unvetted resources to start your search.  www.ecad1.org/‎ 860-489-6550    www.sdwr.org/‎ 540-543-2307 www.medicalservicedogs.org/‎      www.littleangelsservicedogs.org

9 Benefits of Emotional Support Animal in California
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“ Many of the qualities that come so effortlessly to dogs - loyalty, devotion, selflessness, unflagging optimism, unqualified love - can be elusive to humans. John Grogan
Tumblr media
At present, in excess of 30% of the adult population in America is struggling with some sort of mental health problem. For this reason, the role played by an emotional support animalin California and other major American cities has become very important. Apart from distracting us from our daily activities and struggles, they also help to alleviate stress to a great extent. Many of us feel better because of these animals in times of extreme emotional distress. 9 Benefits Provided by Emotional Support Animals
1.You'll experience decreased feelings of solitude Canines and other pets will help to decrease the feelings of loneliness in individuals and also provide companionship. It is extremely difficult to deal with mental illness all by yourself and people suffering from these types of conditions often face problems in functioning in the public and social settings, thus aggravating the sensation of solitude plus isolation. These types of feelings can be lessened with the help of an emotional support animal. These animals love to go for strolls and might also compel their owners to come in contact with the outside world for socialization. Although they are not able to speak, they can act as constant and patient listeners. At times, you require somebody to talk to. A trusted animal will never allow you to feel alone whatsoever.
Tumblr media
2.Enhanced physical activities An emotional support animal will assist you in leaving the house and going for short strolls. This is extremely important when it comes to a healthy body and mind. People often ignore to perform physical activities because of depressive disorders and other issues. However, these animals will provide you with some purpose in life and you will feel like doing physical activities. For instance, a dog might help individuals who are suffering from mental problems to go for a short walk outside. Apart from being good for the body, physical activity will also increase the production of endorphins which are known as the feel-good hormones. 3.ESA animals reduce anxiety and stress ESA can also assist in reducing stress and anxiety. Contemporary lives can be very stressful and many of us are unable to handle the anxiety effectively. Some even suffer from panic attacks from time to time. These animals help to counteract all these effects of anxiety and extreme stress. It has been shown by studies that the stress levels of any person decrease once he interacts with any faithful animal. With the drop stress levels, anxiety also is lessened in the long run. And, decreasing stress will be able to prevent panic attacks too.
Tumblr media
4.ESA pets give you a sense of purpose Caring for any animal will help to develop a sense of purpose and will improve your mood as well. Many people struggling with mental disorders might feel that their lives do not have any purpose. However, an emotional support animal implies that you have somebody depending on you on a regular basis. Ensuring that the animal is provided with food, water, and proper exercise develops a positive frame of mind for the patient and he or she gets back the interest in their lives. Spending more time with the animals will also enable them to focus on the requirements of the animals instead of their own problems. At times, this type of distraction can help you immensely in avoiding a panic attack or depressive episode. 5.Better physical health While somebody is struggling with his mental health, it can hamper his physical health significantly. Anxiety, stress, and depressive disorders can result in hypertension, high cholesterol, weight gain, and lots of other physical problems. However, these issues can be contracted easily in the presence of an emotional support animal. It has been shown by studies that these animals help in minimizing the triglyceride levels, blood pressure, plus cholesterol. Apart from that, enhanced physical activities will also help them in shedding pounds in the long run.
Tumblr media
6.More social support As mentioned earlier, these animals are going to be a fantastic support for any person who is struggling to mix with the outside world after a period of detachment. However, emotional support animals will be able to transform this attitude of their own owners to a great extent and help them to interact with others much more freely. 7.Feel safer  Having the company of an ESA animal anywhere you go will provide asense of security and safety to any individual out there. The animals areplayful in nature and this will help their owners to relax and overcome theirparanoid feelings effectively.
Tumblr media
8.They can help you recover It might be that you are recovering from any injury sustained by you that had a significant impact on your mental health. In that case, you can take the help of the animal to boost your recovery process to a great extent. Apart from this, whenever you venture outside for a stroll along with the animal you will be experiencing an increase in your physical activities which can improve your health considerably. 9.They reduce travel anxiety  There are many people who are suffering from travel anxiety and will not be able to board an aircraft while going to another destination.  Realizing this fact, the emotional support animal laws in California and other cities have permitted individuals to take their emotional support animals along with them on the plane for overcoming their anxiety. Conclusion: Even though one cannot deny the role of an emotional support animal in California when it comes to treating the mental and emotional conditions, it is also important to consider other treatment procedures too. One must use the support from these animals along with other cognitive behavioral treatment methods. In this manner, it will be possible for you to witness some notable changes in the overall quality of your mental health and you will be able to lead a stress-free and happier life than ever before.

6 Natural Ways to Ease Your Dog’s Anal Distress, Yucky, but critical!
Tumblr media
Is your dog scooting across the floor? Anal gland or anal sac issues might be at play. After checking with your vet, help your dog's anal sac distress by getting his anal glands to regularly empty on their own with diet and exercise.
Marybeth Bittel  |  Jul 31st 2018
Ever watch your furry friend “scoot across the rug” without the use of his paws? This exasperating little amble is often executed on some sort of textured surface — such as your new living room carpet or Aunt Emily’s heirloom Persian rug. But it can also be performed on hardwood, ceramic tile or the garage floor. To the uninitiated, it looks like some quirky canine-yoga move. The rest of us have a special name for it: “dog scooting” to relieve a dog’s itchy bum. And we know it’s just one sign of a dog’s anal sac woes.
Tumblr media
If you are stressed to be separated from your animal to go to the Veterinarian, or other places, you may benefit from having your animal certified as an Emotional Support Animal (ESA). Other names that are used are therapy pet, service dog or service animal, or assistance animal. See if you >> >>Qualify for an Emotional Support Animal.  We keep it simple and professional at ESApros.com or call us for a free consultation at 760-485-6784.
Tumblr media
Holistic veterinarian Dr. Jeffrey Feinman, V.M.D has noted that scooting dogs are often struggling with some sort of pesky posterior pain or discomfort. Sometimes, it’s just a freaky-yet-fleeting thing. Sometimes, it’s a parasite problem. But another key cause of derriere-related dog distress lies in an area commonly known as the “anal sacs” or “anal glands.” And yes, you can probably sense it’s officially time to put down whatever you were eating. Because as pet parents, we need to understand how these anal glands function — and when they’re poised to cause serious (and expensive) health issues.
Tumblr media
The Anatomy of … Your Dog’s Anal Sac
First, a quick anatomical overview of your dog’s rear end and your dog’s anal sacs. Envision, for just a nanosecond, the point right beneath the tail where your pup poops. Good, that’s plenty; now take deep cleansing breaths while I explain that the anal glands are two tiny sacs situated within that opening, on either side. This biological feature has existed in wild animals for thousands of years. The material secreted into them is profoundly unpleasant — thick, oily, kinda fishy-smelling. But it’s useful to wild animals like skunks, who can empty these glands at will in threatening situations. Our domesticated dogs have largely lost this ability — but the anal glands have hung around to fill up regardless.
Tumblr media
Usually, everyday defecation helps empty your dog’s anal glands, but sometimes — as I’ve discovered with several of my own dogs — that’s not the case. When the glands remain full for too long, they can become impacted and extremely uncomfortable. And if the situation continues to worsen, an abscess can form and then rupture. This actually happened to Maizy, and it required expensive emergency surgery, antibiotics, the oh-so-cruel Cone of Shame, and eight days of stomach-upsetting pain medication.
Tumblr media
What If Your Dog’s Anal Sacs Need to be Emptied Every Few Weeks?
So if your sweet pup simply won’t stop scooting around or chewing at his itchy, uncomfortable bum, consult your vet immediately. A rupture is an emergency situation. However, if the vet simply detects some (ahem) fullness, you’ve got options. The first is manual draining. Not to mince words, but this is a strong, solid 9.5 on the gross-out meter. Really, don’t try it yourself. Done improperly, it can cause severe injury. Done properly, your house could still reek for days. Having dealt with this dog-related issue for years, I’d suggest cheerfully doling out a few dollars and having it done at your vet’s office. It’s a non-surgical procedure that takes only a few minutes  — and your canine returns to you clean, comfy and fresh as a daisy.
Tumblr media
If you find that your dog’s anal sacs need to be emptied every few weeks or more, think long and hard before considering permanent removal. This is definitely a surgical procedure — and because it can disrupt delicate nerve pathways, it can occasionally lead to incontinence, infections, and other chronic complications. Instead, consider trying these natural home remedies to ease your dog’s anal sac distress. In combination over time, they can often eliminate — or at least minimize — the angst and aversion caused by this unpleasant issue.
Tumblr media
1. Increase fiber
Pumpkin puree. Photography by Liliya Kandrashevich / Shutterstock.
This has been a magic bullet for Maizy. We add a teaspoon of Benefiber to her morning meal, and then give her a teaspoon of ground flax later in the day. Both dietary supplements have a stool-softening effect, which can help the glands empty on their own. We also let Maizy snack on high-fiber treats like baby carrots or dried sweet potato, and every so often, we treat her to a tablespoon of plain, fiber-rich pumpkin. You may be thinking, “that’s a lot of fiber for one furry friend,” and it’s true. Every dog responds differently. That’s why it’s important to start small and increase very gradually. Begin with just a half-teaspoon of Benefiber daily and work up until you notice slight stool softening.
Tumblr media
2. Increase moisture
Some dogs just aren’t wowed by their water bowl. One simple solution is to add more liquid directly to their food. You can also invest in a pet drinking fountain. Instinctively, many pets find moving water more palatable than a plain, tepid, motionless puddle.
Tumblr media
3. Decrease their weight
According to Dr. Junia Borden Childs D.V.M, a dog’s anal sac issues are often a symptom of broader systemic issues. Perhaps this is one reason why pudgy pups are more likely to struggle. That certainly doesn’t mean skinny dogs like Maizy are off the hook, but if your pooch is packing a few extra pounds, switching foods or going on a diet might help alleviate pressure so the sacs can empty more easily. Read labels carefully and choose options with real meat as a top ingredient. Notice animal byproducts, cheap carbohydrate fillers or weird additives you can’t pronounce? Put the package down and try an established whole-food brand.
Tumblr media
4. Boost beneficial bacteria
Re-fortifying with canine-formulated probiotics can also help encourage your dog’s anal glands to empty on their own. Well-respected brands include Prozyme Digestive Enzyme Supplement and Digest-All Plus. Simply follow dosing instructions on the package.
Tumblr media
5. Apply a warm compress
Dr. Childs and other vets have noted that holding a warm washcloth against the under-tail region can sometimes encourage natural drainage. Try soaking a washcloth in warm water infused with 1 to 2 teaspoons of Epsom salt or Witch Hazel. Hold this in place for five to 10 minutes, twice per day, every day. Wear household gloves and use a clean cloth each time.
6. Exercise!
Tumblr media
Regular exercise encourages consistent elimination and elimination encourages anal sac emptying. Thinking back to high school math class, we might term this the transitive property of anal sac triumph.

Dogs really can tell if someone is a bad person-Trust their Instinct!
Tumblr media
If you're a pet owner, you've probably long suspected that your furry friend is pretty insightful, and now a new study has shown just how canny that canine of yours could be...
Tumblr media
Research published in the journal Neuroscience and Biobehavioral Reviews has shown that dogs are capable of recognizing whether someone is a nice person, the Metro reports. More specifically, they can tell whether a person is being horrible to another human.
And the clever creatures use this information to influence how they then respond to someone - including you if you're the one who's being a bit rude!
So, no wonder Emotional Support Animals (ESA) are so useful.  If your animal helps you to to feel calmer or more secure so that you can be more social, sleep better or concentrate at work or home.  These are the part of the qualifying.  See for yourself if you would qualify for an Emotional Support Animal (ESA).  If you want more information, so to www.ESApros.com or call us 760-485-6784 with any questions.
Tumblr media
To work this out, researchers asked dog owners to act out different scenarios while their pooches watched. The volunteers pretended to struggle at opening a container before asking two researchers to help them. In the first scenario, one researcher stood there passively, while their colleague offered to help. In the second, one researcher remained passive, while the other actively refused to help out.
At the conclusion of both scenarios, both researchers offered the dog in question a treat, and here's where it gets interesting: in the first scenario, dogs were just as likely to take a treat from both researchers.
Tumblr media
But in the second scenario, where one of the researchers had been deliberately mean to their owners, the dogs were significantly more likely to ignore the one who had been unpleasant, shunning their treat.
The scientists concluded that dogs are able to tell if someone is being a nasty piece of work and judge them accordingly.
So, next time your dog seems to dislike someone, take note!

Dogs are more than helpers; they are family and can help in a variety of ways. By Joanne Williams, LCSW
Tumblr media
There are 3 categories of helper animals; Service Animals, Emotional Support Animals (ESA) and Therapy animals. Some call them therapy pets, emotional support pets or service dogs.
Tumblr media
An Emotional Support Animals (ESA) are not an ordinary pets, they become a protected class once they qualify as an ESA. But, it could be any type of animal if it helps a daily functioning. There are two laws that give an ESA additional rights.  The 2 laws are: The Air Carriers Access Act (ACAA) and the Fair Housing Act (FHA).  To qualify for an Emotional Support Animal (ESA) you must have a letter from a licensed mental health professional stating you have been diagnosed with a mental health diagnosis and the condition must significantly limit at least one of life’s basic activity; such as their social, work or emotional functioning.
If you are interested in qualifying for an Emotional Support Animal, you can to ESApros.com to see the 2 laws and understand more. Or Call us at 760-485-6784.
Tumblr media
To be a Service Animal, the animal itself that does a task for the person, i.e., a seeing eye dog, predict low blood sugar, helps the hearing impaired to know someone is at the door.  It is about the animal. The Service Animal doesn’t have a letter, but it does need to be trained to do the task.  A service animal falls under the Americans with Disability Act (ADA).
Tumblr media
Practical help A service dog offers lots of practical support – it’s a great feeling for any child with a disability not to have to rely on mom and dad’s help so much. Dogs can retrieve or fetch items from a games console to a pair of slippers, they can help a child dress and undress and open doors. A Service animal can be a dog or miniature horse and falls un the Americans With Disabilities Act. (ADA)
Tumblr media
Therapy animals are trained to only go into nursing homes and Hospitals, because of the health benefits they give the medically impaired.
The medical research is prolific and profound as to how our animals’ calms and soothe us.  Our animal friends give off a pheromone that is the same one as when we fall in love. It just makes us feel better.
Tumblr media
A best friend to give emotional support A dog is always there – for the good times and the bad.  Kathy, whose son Isaac has Duchenne muscular dystrophy says the special bond he has with assistance dog Elsie has changed his world: “Elsie speaks of the joy in the world.  She stands in the doorway with her tail wagging, saying ‘Come on, let’s get going! There are beautiful places to go, balls to chase, muddy puddles to splash in, friends to meet up with and fun to be had!”
Tumblr media
Emotional Support assistance Animal can help with a More restful night sleep For a child or an Adult with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) with a physical or emotional disability, knowing that their assistance dog is there to get help if they need it, snuggle with if they’re a bit lonely or just to chat to if they wake up in the small hours can keep things calm and aid restful nights.
Tumblr media
Helping with physiotherapy
The daily routine of physiotherapy for a disabled child can be much more fun with an assistance dog around. Stretching out to reach your dog, playing ball games or games of tug can help to increase strength and movement and all with a waggy tail to offer encouragement.
Tumblr media
Time outside An assistance dog becomes a friend to play games with at home and at the park.  Many families say they go out together much more after getting an assistance dog.
Tumblr media
Laughter A dog’s sense of playfulness helps to bring a new sense of fun to the household.  Many of our families say they laugh more since having an assistance dog, which in turn, brings down stress levels. “Mornings were harrowing before Rosie came along,” says Oliver’s mom, Lisa. “Now, Rosie gets him up and the first thing I hear in the morning is Oliver’s giggles as Rosie jumps on his bed and encourages him to start the new day.”
Tumblr media
Social icebreaker Dogs are an incredible icebreaker. Those benefits can be felt even more greatly when you have a child with anxiety.  “People didn’t used to know what to say to Billy,” says Billy’s mum, Jess.  “Now, they look at him and Ella, smile and some come up to talk.  Ella makes interaction with other people possible and it’s so good for Billy.”
Tumblr media
Improved confidence- an Emotional Support animal and Service animal can go to College with a young adult Demi was partnered with her assistance dog Bumble when she was a teenager.  Now a University graduate she says: “With Bumble by my side I believed in myself far more.  I don’t think that I would have gone to University if I hadn’t had Bumble with me.  With her help, I was able to complete my degree and get the job I dreamed of.”
