Can we like, stop with the Indian jokes? It’s gotten so old at this point. As an Indian American, I HATE stereotypes of my community, and I hate how complacent we are about it. There’s always the argument that stereotypes are rooted in some truth, but the way it’s portrayed in media, Indian stereotypes are played on like it’s the whole truth. It’s fucking disrespectful to the experiences of those who don’t fit this Hollywood idea of an Indian. I don’t deserve to feel like a “bad Indian” because I don’t fit the idea of one to a bunch of judgmental people.

NO, not all Indians are doctors, lawyers, or engineers. NO, not all Indians are good at math and science. NO, your “Indian accent” is not even remotely accurate and is annoying - most of our “accents” are much closer to British English. NO, we do not only eat curry. NO we are not all Hindu and pray to cows. Indians are one of the most religiously diverse population on the planet. NO, we don’t smell bad 24/7, we were just sweating after being outside/working out. NO, the chai tea joke from Spider-Verse is not the greatest joke made by an Indian, most Indians have been making that same joke since 1995 (myself included). NO, we are not all short. NO, we all don’t own gas stations or motels. NO, WE ARE NOT TERRORISTS AND ARE NOT TAKING YOUR JOBS AND NEITHER ARE ARAB AMERICANS. Terrorist groups are extremists that DO NOT represent all Brown people. NO, we DO NOT have a hatred of Pakistanis.

Those are just a few stereotypes that I’ve run into in my life that I’ve spotlighted and debunked. If you have anymore you’d like to disprove, please rebolg or put it in the tags. It’s time for Indians in media to stop being the butt of jokes.
