while I don’t agree with that referring to men in their 30s-early 40s as “old man yaoi”, I UNDERSTAND why many people who primarily consume honest-to-goodness BL manga are quicker to call it that, because there is just such poor representation for men that aren’t hairless dehydrated 20-something twunks. They’re wrong, but I get why it happens.

I also understand that “middle-aged yaoi” isn’t as fun to say as “old man yaoi”, even when it’s more technically accurate.

So I would like to propose new vocabulary: Grown Ass Yaoi. yaoi that’s grown ass men. they’re not old but they’re not young adults either. you get me? Grown Ass Yaoi

Every year like clockwork I get a little bit depressed and fall back into the (now defunct) Juno Steel fandom which is great because sometimes it's just a girl and the niche queer media they found at 15 against the rest of the world. However once a year during this period I'm also inevitably reminded of the period of my life (16/17 years old) where I was in an outpatient psychiatric program and my case manager asked me to give an "inspirational quote about mental health" to put on these insipid Christmas ornaments that would decorate a "tree of hope" (not for the children's hospital I'd been at, but for some charity banquet for donors?). Anyways I was really obstinate and I thought this was a stupid exercise, so long story short I sent in a fucking Juno Steel quote and my case manager ate it the fuck up. So then I reflect on the fact that a bunch of rich assholes (who actually might be to thank for the fact that we all got Lush shampoo in the psych ward) got to read an inspirational quote from a random audiodrama podcast about space pirate yaoi...... so it goes
