How can we understand the Umbanda language?
It´s impossible to remember when was the first time I´ve got in touch with Umbanda. It reminds in somewhere over my family´s believes or raising path...
In Brazil, in 80´s everyone would be Catholic. Nevertheless, there was always a neighbor, an aunt or even a grandpa that could heal us from things that medicine couldn´t dream to diagnosticate. Ther is an interesting terminology: “quebranto” that could mean endless things that would annoy you; endless crying, disturbing nightmares, insomnia,  uneasiness, and queasinesses in general. No doctor could treat none of those, right? BUT the prayer, the medicine person would! Yes! Ladies and gentlemen: The Benzedeira ( ro for male ones)! Something that a very few foreigners could dream about. And it´s not uncommon to find this kind of practice all over the world trough the shamanism, as the “urban” ones, as well in the ancestrals too.
The medicine person would come and with something in their hands (or not even that), they would whisper a few words. Air drawing some key with their hands in front or over the querent´s head and voilá. The one could go back to his or her life and be happily ever after... Until the next issue.. of course.
So how can I say it was my first time in contact with this language? Maybe when my mother firt tok me into a Kardecist ritual... But is was blended with Umbanda... So it is another story.
And I believe this is the case of most Brazilians that haven´t been raised in an Umbandistic family or similar, and I´ll reach them in posts further.
Umbanda was “downloaded”(channeled)by Zélio Fernandino de Moraes. But it is a subject for a whole new post.

Umbanda in English?
Yes!   I´ve been asked to talk about Umbanda in English for more time than it should've been.
I know that I´ve promised a podcast, a youtube channel. But the truth is that I feel more confident to write. And maybe it will become something else someday. For now, I can offer an interpretation of my Umbanda studies in Portuguese,
I love Umbanda! And I understand that there isn´t enough material in English, so here I am. My mission: To share my Umbanda studies with every non-Portuguese speaker.  It´s a challenge to coin terms that make a lot of sense in Portuguese to an “empty” space in English. So I expect feedback on this new terminology.   And I hope that more students show up. It´s crucial to build it in a collective way. Because Umbanda also means the gathering into the oneness.   So welcome to this blog. Your comments, as well your energies are welcome here. If there is any subject that you would like to see here, please let me know.   Enjoy the ride!
