My aunt’s cat is very shy and hides when there are guests in her house. She semi-trusts my parents and will at least be in the same room as them. Tonight, my dad made some progress:

if cities are vampires then small towns are ghosts i think. cities constantly hunger for fresh blood, but the blood that sustains a small town is an old and dried stain that you can never entirely scrub out. a city will feed on you, but if you truly want to leave, it can't keep you. a small town will follow you anywhere. it lingers like a chill at every threshold. once it has you, it has no intention of ever letting you go.

sibling relationships are so strange... like i love you. you will never understand me in a way that matters. we are the same person in drastically different ways. we are sewn together. we don't talk. we are attached at the hip. you wish i was never born. can i call you. let's eat together. i forgive you. etc

people love to criticise the actions of someone under an extreme amount of stress as irrationally, irredeemably monstrous, and then you'll actually look at what they're talking about and see that not only is their behaviour entirely understandable given the circumstances, but they're actually demonstrating incredible restraint and will to endure beyond what you thought anyone was capable of

last week i went to a vivarium and it was such a wonderful experience to watch the birds fly happily through the flowers..

currently reading The Rachel incident by Caroline O'Donoghue and not liking it much, though it's entertaining me sometimes. I finished The Poppy War last week and now i feel empty..

i will now start reading a physics paper about Hamiltonian mechanics!!!! excited lol
