Your Throne

Previously called If Only I Could Be You For A Day, Your Throne is the renamed version of this manwha.
It has so many surprising twists and turns, you honestly can’t expect what will happen next.
Medea is the main character—the young woman in the middle of the picture. She was supposed to be the Empress of the kingdom, formerly engaged to Eros—the young man on the very right.
That was until he dumped her for his true love Psyche—the girl to the left of Medea. These three make up the foundations of this novel and they are the cornerstone in droving the plot.
Though, you will see more of Helio, the young man furthest to the left, and Perion, the young man to the right of Medea.
Each character has so many different pieces to them. It’s hard to tell who is really “good” or “bad” or “wrong” or “right”. They all fall into different shades of grey.
But Medea might be the darkest grey of them all. A grey so dark, it may swallow your very soul.

Castle In The Sky
Many people are familiar with Studio Ghibli’s Howl’s Moving Castle, but fewer remember Castle in the Sky.
I honestly liked this story much more. The main character Sheeta was strong and fearless, taking charge when others wouldn’t. Her dynamic with the male lead Pazu and the other supporting characters was also very wholesome and heartwarming.
The archaic, rustic, and timely feeling you embrace when you watch this movie is magnificent. It’s like you’re transported into another world—a world in which you are discovering a relic of the past.
Castle in the Sky will forever be dear to my heart.

Katekyo Hitman Reborn

My goodness, it’s been quite a while since I’ve watched Katekyo Hitman Reborn.
This anime was quite wholesome. I really liked that the main character Tsunayoshi was quite timid. He was scared and unsure of everything, even being bullied which is so different from many overpowered shounen protagonists.
Although he did gain his strength, there were times I was disappointed that he still lacked confidence and made mistakes. But it’s to be expected. From a child who grew up in that way, can you really fault them for taking longer to grow up?
Tsuna has grown. He has gotten stronger. He is no longer alone. He has his famiglia.

My Hero Academia

It’s really interesting to fantasize about the darker side of things.
In Boku no Hero Academia (this is the Japanese title btw) Midoriya Izuku is this story’s protagonist. His world is filled with people born with special powers—“Quirks” is what they call them.
Most people are able to awaken one, but only few are truly talented. In a world where everyone is special, there are a rampant amount of both villains, those who abuse their gifts, and heros who are focused on taking them down.
And only the very best can enroll in the number one school to become a hero: UA Academy.
Enter Izuku who was born without such a gift and see how he navigates his journey to become the very best hero in the world!!
…but sometimes, it makes one think: What if he had chosen to become a villain instead?

Surviving Romance

Chaerin Eun is the protagonist of the webtoon Surviving Romance.
I like her because she reminds me of the time in life (during high school of course) where I felt very unsure of myself.
Thrust into an apocalyptic world, she does everything that she can to survive. Though, despite doing her best, she has to relive every life over and over again until she can find a timeline in which things don’t go to shit.
In the process, she nearly loses her mind and her sanity, trying to survive in such a world as she’s betrayed by some of the very companions she was trying to save over and over again
She’s resilient, tough, and kind-hearted, and the kind of protagonist that I love to read about.
Give this webtoon a try. You’ll really enjoy it!

Who Made Me A Princess

This webtoon is beautiful in every form. From characters to plot to setting the scene, Who Made Me A Princess is a webtoon you must read.
The story is about a young princess Athanasia who was isekai-ed into a novel where she supposedly dies as a cannon fodder character to the true main protagonist of the story Jeanette.
You see, Jeanette and Athanasia are thought to be the children of the Emperor Claude because of their enchanting oceanic blue eyes that sparkle like diamonds and glisten like fresh dew drops on soft delphiniums.
Metaphors aside, in the original storyline, Athanasia is actually killed by Claude for being a bothersome eyesore. She was the unfavored child in the kingdom, unloved by even her own father.
In this life, Athanasia strives to do everything in her power to survive, even if it means facing her worst fears—her father.

The Ember Knight

The Ember Knight is a webtoon that has been consuming my soul. It is also from the same author as Epic of Gilgamesh and apparently the story’s sequel--a sequel in the sense that they are created in the same world but the storyline is completely different. Though, you will see familiar characters here and there!
Yes, I have literally spent all my coins on this novel, and I absolutely do not regret it one bit. This story is so beautifully crafted as the protagonist became the protagonist, not because of his power, but because of his brilliant mind.
I always fall in love with characters who are clever. It fuels some sort of desire within me when I see something different from your typical overpowered shounen protagonist who is born with everything falling into their lap.
I like characters who struggle. Especially those who struggle and fail. The ones who are the most desperate. Who have ambition. Who fight for every inch of their life for a goal that they so desperately need to accomplish. These types of characters are the loneliest in the world. Yet, they are the most beautiful.
Najin, the main character above, only has two paths above him. Be strong enough to live.... or die trying.

Cells at Work

As a medical student, I absolutely adore Cells at Work!!
Macrophage is my waifu, U-1146 is pretty easy on the eyes--see what I did there, and AE-3803 is such a cutie pie! I love dendritic cell, basophil, and eosinophil as well!
Especially, eosinophil. I feel like I relate to her a lot. She tries her best to help out in all situations, despite it not really working it out for her most of the time. But that’s because she has her own special talent. Her own special kind of ability. She may not be an all round fighter like the adaptive cells NK cell or Killer Cell or even innate cell Neutrophil, but she can fight against pathogenic parasites!
This is a unique kind of beauty, and like every cell in our body, we each have our own special place in this world.
Please watch Cells at Work! You’ll really enjoy it! And remember to stay healthy as well! Remember, the more healthy you are the more waifus in your body!

Shin Yoshi (New Year)
Like a wave of lightning that soars through the skies, it seems that time never seems to fade away. Maybe this one day, it will be enough for me.
To believe in a world where people seem to never believe in themselves.
It’s a bit pessimistic to think like this.
But human beings seem to never trust themselves. It’s a lack of confidence. Perhaps, a lack of trust. Maybe people just hate themselves?

Blast of Tempest

One of anime’s hidden gems, if you love Shakespeare, you will have a deeper appreciation for this story.
Constantly referring to both the tragedy of Hamlet and the comedy of The Tempest, this work would not exist without Shakespeare.
It is a story of revenge and a story of moving on. Paradoxical yet these two elements merge with each other perfectly.
I absolutely adore the main character. His genius rivals that of L’s and Lelouch’s mindset. Though, different from the two characters, he loves far too much as he holds onto memories of the past.
If you dare to watch, then I will say that you should be mentally prepared to understand the weight of that decision.

Like gold, my heart no longer fears an eternity with you.

I Sat In a Library Room Waiting For You

It was as if the light shined through your eyes.
I remember when we held hands silently in the corner of a library room and prayed that we could be together.
I remember that your family couldn’t accept who we were.
They didn’t want us to love each other.
They had believed that they knew the best for you.
Like a slave with a chain around your ankle, you were a servant to a life you never wanted to live.
You abandoned me in favor of the ones that made your life miserable.
I cried.
A lot.
Sometimes without tears.
But you could always hear my heart breaking into pieces.
I still love you.
And like a boomerang, you eventually came back.
I don’t know who it was that gave you the courage to stand up for what you wanted, but I’m glad that you found that courage within you.
When you came back to me, I was elated.
You asked for my hand.
I disagreed at first, too frustrated and too embarrassed and too upset to see clearly. There was no reason that shone in eyes clouded with anger and hurt.
But you soothed me.
When I broke down, you were with me.
You never left my side.
You stayed with me unlike the last time when you had left me behind.
Your hand on my back was so comforting.
I forgave you then.
Just like I had when you left.
I knew you were like a solider going to war.
I knew that you had unfinished business to attend to.
I’m glad that I can welcome you back home.
I will always love you.
“Okaerinasai”
If you really love someone, you will never let them go.
If you really love someone, sometimes you have to learn to let them go.
But if they were truly meant for you, then like a boomerang, they will come back.
Ibby here! Thank you for reading my original short story! I’m considering fully fledging out the story into more detail, but I do love short drabbles like these.

Hey! I don't know if this happens to me or any other writers too but I hate naming characters. When I get an idea I'm not able to flesh that idea any further because I'm still stuck at what should I name my character. I want a name that fits their vibe, their culture, or something their parents would name them. But finding that right name takes a lot of time and I can't move past this stage quickly because for me naming them gives them an identity and it helps me to see them as people.
Any idea how should I get past it?
Naming Your Fictional Characters
Hi there! This is a great question. I think a lot of writers have a hard time finding just the right name for their characters. Personally, I often change names a few times before settling on a final one, and sometimes go through whole drafts with XNAME as a placeholder. Hopefully these tips will help:
Use a placeholder name. This can be hard if, like you said, you can’t move forward on your story until you come up with the right one. But maybe you could get close? Otherwise, do what I do and just write NAME or XXX.
Interview your character. Who knows--maybe they’ll just tell you their name!
Buy a baby name book. You can search online, too, but I really like having a hard copy of a baby name book on hand. 100,000+ Baby Names is a good one because it also has popular names from non-Anglo cultures (e.g. Chinese, Mexican, Indian, etc.) whereas a lot of baby name books are full of only Davids and Williams.
Try Fantasy Name Generator. This is a great online tool to help you brainstorm, even if you’re not writing fantasy.
Remember you can always use “find and replace.” This tool makes it easy to find, for example, every instance of “Constance” and change it to “Helen” if you change your mind later about your character’s name.
Be patient. It can be hard to know who a character is until you see them in action. It might take a full draft to get a good enough sense of them to give them a name. I’ve had drafts where I had one name for months, until I realized at the very end (once I got to know my character inside & out) that their name was different.
Hope this helps... and if anyone has any suggestions to add please do!

Do I Still Exist In Your Eyes?

Calmer than the ocean blue.
I remember when we were two.
A deeper emerald than the green I bleed.
You were the only one I will ever need.
Brown and burgundy, brilliant and bright.
And yellow laughter that shines the night.
A darker than black with a hand in sight.
This man has now come to take my last life.

I Had Loved You

Intertwining hands and faces filled with love so blinding it shook the world.
They were the happiest couple in this country.
It was precisely why one of them had to die.
In a No Man’s Land filled with the blood and bones of their comrades, would they have been able to live peaceful lives?
A country with its roots bathed in war and weapons manufactured on the daily, this land continued to breathe life and death into its occupants.
When you took her hand instead--
The bracelet that I gave you swayed with the wind. Its movement as miniscule as the love you give me now.
Would you look at me for once?
Maybe one more time before you go?
You’re always rushing into things with that beautiful, brilliant smile of yours.
Even if you love her.
Even if you choose her.
I still love you.
I will always love you.
Like a December winter.
Like music from a cold land.
Thanks for reading my work!
“I Had Loved You” can be read as a standalone piece, but I definitely wrote it with a specific anime in mind.
Would anyone care to guess which one it is?
