Xiaomi Says It Has Sent 7 Million Redmi Phones From The Y Series To India

As Xiaomi prepares to launch the Redmi Y3 smartphone in India, the Chinese smartphone maker has revealed that it has sent 7 million units of its Redmi Y series smartphones to the country. The company quotes the IDC India Smartphone Tracker monthly report for shipping figures. Xiaomi introduced the Redmi Y line in India with the launch of Redmi Y1 and Redmi Y1 Lite in late 2017. The company continued with Redmi Y2 next year. The next Redmi Y3 will be the fourth smartphone in the range.According to a press release shared by Xiaomi, the figure of 7 million includes unit shipments of Redmi Y1 £ 8999, Redmi Y1 Lite £ 1449 and Redmi Y2 £ 899. The company took more than a year to achieve this goal. The Redmi Y series is part of Xiaomi's entry-level portfolio in the country and its smartphones are more designed for young people and have self-help capabilities. It will be the same for the next Redmi Y3, which has already been teased to include a 32-megapixel selfie on the front. The phone will be released on April 24.

Citing the IDC India Smartphone Tracker monthly report, the company had already boasted of being the number one smartphone brand in the country for six consecutive quarters, from the third quarter of 2017 to the fourth quarter of 2018. According to IDC, the company had sent a total of 41.1 million. China Authorizes Tencent to Distribute Nintendo Switching Console

The Chinese government in Guangdong Province has given Tencent Holdings the green light to distribute the Nintendo Switch with a trial version of New Super Mario Bros.U Deluxe, according to a statement posted on the government's website.The Switch console has not been officially launched in the country, home to the largest video game market in the world.It was not clear right away if Switch would need more approvals, such as those from the Chinese central government.A spokesman for Nintendo said Tencent had asked the southern Guangdong province for permission to sell the console.

Tencent did not respond immediately to requests for comment.The statement, published on the website of Guangdong Province's Department of Culture and Tourism, lists more than one hundred gaming devices, including slot machines, which it has approved for sale.He also stated that the parties concerned were allowed to challenge the regulator's decisions over the next seven days. Nintendo has sold more than 32 million units of its portable hybrid handheld since its launch a little over two years ago.
