In the comics, although Mark and Eve spent more time together and kissed before they started dating, they still rushed things. They both said "I love you" on their first date, had sex right after, and were already determined to move in together. This makes them the kind of young couple who rush things because they let their emotions get the better of them. In the show, they act this way too, but it becomes more obvious when Mark and Eve realize they were moving too quickly and decide not to move in together, something that doesn't happen in the comics. In the comics, they don't even realize they were rushing things. I think a lot of people who dislike Markeve didn't notice this dynamic between them in the show and just focused on the fact that they were moving too quickly into the relationship.

the naivety surrounding Abigail's backstory and the gang’s treatment of her will never fail to make me mad. You are doing her a great disservice by electing to ignore the traumatizing aspects of her previous profession for the sake of defending male rdr characters.

Regardless of whether Dutch's whole "we all had her" is true or not, she was a MINOR brought into a gang where she continued to work as a prostitute. If you think for a moment that a group of men in the 1800s (particularly Dutch considering his history with young and desperate girls) did not abuse that, you lack not only an understanding of the history of sw/the treatment of women, but also Abigail and several rdr characters as a whole. Whatever your take on Dutch's "we all had her" is, it doesn't negate the fact that she was exploited by the gang, for funds to maintain her place or sexual favors. I think both.

I've seen the argument of "Arthur and Hosea would never let that happen" multiple times and I just think that's an incredibly weak take. Sure, Arthur and Hosea are morally better than Dutch, but I think people forget that these are people who blindly follow Dutch. Not to mention, they are still men in the 1800s (when prostitution was not recognized as harmful. It was literally the most common career for women). Many rdr fans are analyzing her from a modern lens, and that doesn't really work when it comes to things like this.

Takes like this are not a defense of Abigail but a disregard of her trauma both outside and within the gang. It's incredibly weird to see people downplaying a 17 yr old who was forced into sw for the sake of defending grown ass men. All in all, I think it's a great misunderstanding of Dutch's character (and even Hosea/Arthur/etc in terms of the time period+blind loyalty) to say she was saved from prostitution by him of all people.

I think in the end red dead is about love.

Arthur's love for Dutch kept him blieving a bit too long, his love for the camp kept him working despite being tired, his love for John and Abigail helped them escape and give his life in return.

John's love for his son and wife that made him flip his life around not just once but twice, his love for Arthur whom he priorly struggled with, his love for his family that made him kill old friends for their safety.

Abigail's love for John that made her believe he could change, her love for him and her son causing her to leave for both their safeties.

Hosea's love for Abigail making him prepare her for the worst already in chapter two, his love for Arthur trying to make him see Dutch's fault before it was too late, and his love for Dutch making him try to keep him from running off the rails.

All those small moments of love, I think that is what it is about

i have to live my truth and say i was disappointed by mark and eve's get together. like we've been anticipating this for so long and it was just "wanna go out" "okay" OKAY??? WHERES THE ROMANCE 😭😭 ik it was realistic to teenagers getting together but i was underwhelmed tbh .. oh well not every aspect of the show can be flawless perfection; this is the one and only gripe ive had for the entire thing lol. i guess i just wanted a more dramatic moment for them, especially their first kiss. they also got super touchy with each other so fast?? like it feels like their relationship dynamic grew completely off screen
