ZANDRA RHODES

Internationally acclaimed British fashion icon, Zandra Rhodes is a high visibility fashion and textiles designer, who with her inimitable designs, textiles and color genius has dressed international celebrities and royalty over five decades.  Zandra revolutionized textile design, and founded the Fashion and Textile Museum of London in 2003.  Her designs have been also seen on the covers of magazines including vogue and Bazaar

Dame Zandra Rhodes, sometimes known as the Princess of Punk, was made a “Dame Commander of the British Empire” by Queen Elizabeth (the actual medals were conferred by Princess Anne) at Buckingham Palace on February 13, 2015.  Zandra tells us that her favorite item from her closet is this blue crepe suit printed with Egyptian pleating design that she wore for the momentous occasion.  

“I recently created and hand printed the suit in my London studio.”  The bodice is a short crop top making the waistline look smaller.  The skirt is two exotic squares held on a shaped Basque.  

“Since I received these medals, wearing the suit makes it even more special, and it will become an iconic piece.  I feel special in this because I love bright colors and patterns and they create a contrast with my pink hair.  Especially with my gorgeous piersatkinson mad hat with the rhinestones egg on top.  I love it because it is chic, elegant yet easy to wear--it reflects my bright personality!”

Zandra presents two major collections each year, licenses her distinctive designs to major fashion and beauty labels, and creates breathtaking stage and costume looks for some of the world’s most popular operas. She develops her unique designs by creating original textile prints, which form the foundation of each of her collections.

“This year has been very very full!  Exciting projects all around the board that I am proud of are:  a wood block for people tree; an Autumn/Winter 2015 Collection; a flowing Freddy Mercury type outfit for Luke of the Strutts; launch of a new range of bags;  and launched of a range of lace stockings and socks."

“I am so committed to supporting local as well as international charitable efforts, and I hope that I can be seen as “walking the talk” to persuade everyone that this is vitally important. My “local” charities are located in San Diego, USA and London, UK. In March 2014 I was honored for my 17 years of volunteer service by the University of California Diego’s Sulpizio Cardiovascular Center.  This is rather a posh affair, and importantly raises hundreds of thousands of dollars to promote the best possible cardiac care for those in Southern California. This year the “Heart of San Diego” event paid homage to my work throughout my career, featuring an exhibition of my designs (costumes and sets) for the opera “Aida”, performed by the San Diego Opera in 2013.”

KELLY EMBERG, Supermodel, designer, talk show host and organic cuisinechampion

Kelly made her mark as one of the firstSupermodels, and her face has graced the covers of all the major fashionmagazines, including vogue,  harpersbazaar, Madamoiselle  and cosmopolitanmagazine.  Right nowthough, Kelly is on a mission: She wants everyone to grow their own food, “Once you truly understand what is in your food and where it comes from, you might change the way you eat.”

These days, Kelly is known as the “Model Gardener,” so it would stand to reason that her favorite article of clothing is her well-loved pair of Citizens of Humanity jeans. “I love the way the jeans fit and how comfortable they are. I am truly a jeans and cowboy boots kinda’ girl most of the time. It works for my lifestyle. I am either harvesting and planting in my veggie garden, cleaning out my chicken coop or running my kids around for sports and school, so it is all about comfort and wearability for me.”  She is writing her first Garden Book.

John Casablancas famed owner of elitemodelmanagement, discovered Kelly in Houston, Texas the summer before she was to leave for college…She took a little detour to New York City instead, and had to grow up fast, as she was only 18 and on her own in the Big Apple. It was scary leaving everything that was familiar to her, but she made new friends quickly—among her best were Kim Alexis and Nancy Donahue.

After modeling, Kelly embarked on a new career as an interior designer and had three beautiful children, Ruby, Tyler and Cole. She recently signed with Trump Model Management, so you will be seeing more of her.

During her modeling years, she purchased a home on 13 acres in Pennsylvania to escape the crowds of New York City.  This is where she cultivated her first herb garden, and her love for living off the land.  "Something about being outdoors with nature, planting things that actually grow and become something so beautiful."

Kelly currently lives on four acres in the San Diego area, where she not only has an expansive vegetable and herb garden, but also a 250 tree fruit grove, a greenhouse of beautiful orchids, and a backyard full of chickens that produce eggs!  “I feel so capable and aware of nature.  It feels so rewarding to know that a garden give so much back to my family."

“I want to do something that matters to me and the environment that might possibly make a difference.  People need to know about what they are eating and where it comes from.”  

Kelly’s charitable involvement includes working with Holly Grove in Los Angeles--a safe haven for abused children, where she installed a vegetable garden to inspire the children to grow and learn where their food comes from. For three years, she has given her time to help fundraise for the I Am Waters Foundation, based in her hometown Houston, Texas. I Am Waters Foundation brings fresh drinking water to the homeless, and to areas where natural disasters happen. Kelly recently worked with Miracle Babies to bring awareness to young mothers and show them how important it is to eat the right foods during pregnancy. Her hope is to help people become aware of improving their health through education about the food they eat. “I believe it starts with one seed. If people understood where their food came from, they would treat themselves and the planet differently. They will live a longer, happier life and so will generations to come!”

ELENA MURZELLO, author of "The Love List," design engineer and actress.

During last week’s Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, New York, Elena’s book had a dedicated lounge at TechStyle, where she hosted a Twitter Q&A with friends from Skinny Girl Sparklers. She also had the privilege of taking over TheStyleLine's Instagram account.   Elena's book made glamour Magazine's Valentine's Gift Guide.

Elena is a multifaceted multi-tasker, certainly a "go-getter." She is a design engineer with an MBA; a writer, actress, and nurse. Succeeding at demanding careers requires a fine balancing act that constantlykeeps her on her toes, so it follows logically that the favorite thing in her closet are these magical pink Valentino heels. "I feel like they give me special super powers when I wear them(and 4 inches of height!)."   She bought these stunners in 2013--the year she finished graduate school with her MBA, and her book, The Love List: A guide to Getting Who You Want  was released. 

Elena's first nursing job was on the Burns, Plastics and Trauma unit, so she understands the importance of philanthropy and helping others.  She supports a variety of health care initiatives, but can't pick just one, "they are all important!"

In The Love List, Elena shares her real-life experiences as well as information gathered from more than a hundred single, divorced, and married men and women about the qualities they look for in a life partner. Abstracting details from her interviews she created a process that anyone can use to create their own lists. Along with introspective questions to ponder, Elena includes sample lists of characteristics, the top three traits both men and women seek in a partner, an exploration of different types of relationships, and ways to diversify a portfolio of suitors.

The Love List provides practical tips and personal stories to encourage single people to look deep within, take risks, and learn to rely on their own unique lists while searching for the perfect mate.

Elena is energetic, reflective, and constantly on the move. She seeks the rich and nourishing flavours of lifestyles found around the globe. Whether it's riding a tuk-tuk or a subway, bartering in the local market for fresh fruit or exploring the boutiques along the Champs-Elysees, each city has something unique, a jewel that sets them apart. She wants to be in the everyday, everywhere.

Witnessing people in their natural environment gave her the realization that across the universe, we are the same. Nurturing this empathetic bond with people from around the world has strengthened her aptitude to shape honest, distinct, and real characters in both acting and writing. These experiences have also awakened her visions and designs in event planning, drawing from vibrant colours, soothing aromas, zesty cuisines, exquisite sounds, and distinguished textiles.
