He found her. She was thrown down at the foot of a concrete pillar, eyes closed. There was a smell of cooked meat. The crowd was chanting the winner's name. A beer vendor was wiping his taps with a dark rag. One white sneaker had come off, somehow, and lay beside her head. Follow the wall. Cure of concrete. Hands in pockets. Keep walking. Past unseeing faces ... Case walked on, feeling nothing.

writing update #1
Realizing I need a much better title for these updates but the utilitarian option will do for now.
Transcribed “LAKE” from Drafting Journal
This added up to more words (~1,000) than I originally thought, which was a nice surprise. I can never tell with long-form by hand. But I still want to keep this short, as “FINK” and “ISLA” are destined for a far lengthier run time. I think this will offer a palate cleanser between these two. I am still enjoying with the more casual first-person voice, though it’s a challenge to curb my impulse for flowers and iridescence, but it serves the narrative as I intended. Hoping to have another opportunity to wax poetic about the ice ala “THE SECRET HISTORY.”
Re-read “FINK” conclusion
And was happily surprised by the quality of the ending. It’s still missing some beats but I was at the point where I wasn’t even sure if it made sense so that’s a win. I’m excited to continue playing with the lucidity-turned-chaos that characterizes the final act and then abruptly shifts at the conclusion. Going to shift to other projects for a bit to get further perspective and maybe more world-building to supply here.
Considering “ISLA”
This is a story I think requires a bit of story-boarding, so not sure when the first draft will manifest but still top of mind. I’ve decided to leverage this narrative as a sort of origin story for the world, which gives it a little more clout in this collection and will help me drive the narrative. Planning to retain most if not all of the plot beats I was originally considering though.

writing update #0
Like any story, this tumblr must begin somewhere. I’m not sure what this page will become, other than a semi-private chronicle of my writing updates and journeys, an accountability and archival mechanism augmenting my existing journals and ephemeral notes.
Tumblr has always been my favorite social media platform - though “social media” feels like an inaccurate way to describe it. It’s always been weird and chaotic, resistent to the pernicious plagues of advertisement and, in many ways, conspicuous consumerism of a certain type. Of course, there are ads now - but they read almost like alien dispatches from some far-off planet (this is a good thing). Tumblr is also precocious and indulgent and occasionally toxic in a way that resonates with my personality, for better or for worse.
So let’s begin.
