someone suggested a good omens prompt inspired by the aristocats and i know theres a lot of cats!good omens stuff out there already but im an absolute slut for cute disney romance so i went for it anyway
aziraphale is a pure bred siberian cat who lives a cozy life in a bookshop, crowley is a pure bred oriental shorthair (with deficient eye coloring) who was abandoned by his breeder and lives in the streets. they fall in love and crowley runs into the bookshop to save aziraphale from the fire, because i’m a dramatic idiot
also aziraphale’s owner is definitely gabriel and he sneaks out of the house every day to see his secret boyfriend while vehemently insisting he’d never be the partner of a gutter cat absolutely not sir

I've been watching, what I feel, is a lot of Michael Sheen lately. Some intentional, some not. Sheenie boy just keeps showing up. He has been my favorite actor for a while, so it's plausible that all of this is subconsciously planned, but tell me why I watched Tron and was surprised to see this silly little avant garde man??? Why is it that I forget he plays Aro in Twilight every time I watch it? How is it that those two characters are played by the same man who plays a narcissistic psychopath or an anxiety ridden angel? How are all of these the same person? Some actors are versatile, but very few match the caliber and tenacity of Michael Christopher Sheen.

Literally just joined the Kickstarter for the Good Omens Graphic Novel 59 minutes before it ended. I forgot it was happening until I was talking to someone about it and panicked because I thought I had missed it! I am so excited, I can hardly wait to get it! Big thanks to The Terry Pratchett Estate, Neil Gaiman, Colleen Doran, and all the backers for making this happen!

It's never a coincidence, Neil Gaiman always knows.
Y’ALL I JUST FOUND SOMETHING WILD:
I figured this out by pure accident because musically, I’m not a big fan of Tori Amos’s singing style (I’m sorry 🙁, besides the point though!), so I pulled up the original instead to put on my playlist.
And GUYS. I don’t think “A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square” is about them at the Ritz together in the 21st century, or at least not at first…
Tumblr media
It’s about this.
“A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square” originally came out in 1940 by Vera Lynn, one year before Crowley pulled the most romantic ass stunt Aziraphale had ever seen and, let’s be honest, the vibes uh… changed. I mean there was a reason the rumor of them being an item spread in hell around this time.
And that’s not all, the song was actually meant to be part of a musical, on the West End. The place where they made a fond memory together for the first time in nearly a hundred years, took care of each other, trusted each other. Hell, where Crowley and Aziraphale, both friends of the theatre in different ways, probably heard this song about causing the impossible and falling in love just a year prior.
Yah so I’ve FULLY drank my own koolaide and completely believe that they already associated this song with each other. Not only saw it as a fond reminder of that night in 1941, but the quite, gentle reality they might have together someday. But they wouldn’t DARE say that out loud, wouldn’t be ridiculous enough to let themselves hope for it.
Tumblr media
I think this was Aziraphale breaking the unspoken rules and acknowledging this thing they share. Him saying “I know, I see you. I hope so too.”

Neil Gaiman,
Terry Pratchett and yourself wrote a beautiful book. Now, you've gone and turned it into something so beautiful for a new generation to appreciate.
So often queer love stories are told through a younger lens, but now we get to see people of all ages being queer and in love. Having actors in their 50s playing out a love story spanning across time is so beautiful. Empires fell and their pining and love remained. You have taken a simple idea. An idea that has been in writing all throughout human history, of being on opposing sides and still falling in love, and you have created something extraordinary. You've created hope. I have always wanted to fall in love with a beautiful woman and get married one day, but it doesn't have to be in my younger years. My younger years can be mine. Perhaps later, when I'm more established, it may happen. But for now, I can enjoy the passing of time, not worried about finding a partner. Thank you for this. Thank you for my hope.

Good Omens Head Canon
Aziraphale will have to save himself. Crowley isn't going to Heaven. We will see just how terrible and powerful Aziraphale truly is. He will amass an army of angels who are fed up with how things are run and he will tear down the system before Heaven can enact the Rapture. Like, we'll absolutely be seeing flaming sword Aziraphale and halos being thrown. And we will finally see Aziraphale saving Crowley from Heaven.
And then they kiss and literally never leave the other's side.

I just realized that the reason we get six episodes for each of the three seasons is so that, once it's done, it'll be 666. Very tricky of Neil, but I love it!

There is something to be said about Aziraphale going by Fell when he is on Earth in modern times. I think it is indicative of how Earth changes angels and demons. I'm not sure I see it as foreshadowing, but more as a symbol of his past and his fears. There is also the fact that Crowley doesn't see himself as fallen, as, in his words, he just hung around the wrong people. He and Crowley have worked very hard to carve out lives for themselves on Earth, but perhaps Aziraphale feels that by hanging around with Crowley, he will be tempted into defying the Lord's ineffable plan. He's worried about his shades of gray getting darker the more he is with Crowley as a demon.

My Nice and (hopefully) Accurate Good Omens Theories
Alright, here are some conclusions I have come to upon my third full watch of Good Omens. I hear all this talk about the coffee theory, and even the threat theory, but I think that the Metatron didn't have to do much to tear them apart.
We all saw the look the Metatron gave Crowley as he turned to walk out of the book shop with Aziraphale. He cast Crowley out of heaven. That was a look of pure disgust as he looked at a fallen angel, tempting another angel. There is glaring evidence that the Metatron remembers Crowley's questions/suggestions at the Beginning. He remembers Crowley as a threat, thus he wishes to take away the things that Crowley loves. Crowley loves Aziraphale and the Earth, so what better punishment than to have Aziraphale be the one to destroy the Earth with the second coming.
As for how he manipulated Aziraphale, he capitalized upon Aziraphale's desperate need to make a difference, and his love for Crowley. He knew that Crowley would never return to Heaven as an angel. So, he made Aziraphale think that was an option. Aziraphale, like Crowley, loves the Earth. He loves the Earth and everything on the Earth. He knows that Heaven is corrupt, but he is determined that he can make it better for the things he loves. If he were to see it as an institutional problem he would become fallen. His greatest fear is that he will fall from Her grace. I haven't quite determined why I think he got in the elevator after the Metatron said that they were planning the second coming, but I imagine it stems from a point of pride. Like, how can he turn around now that he has burned that bridge? Can he face Crowley again after hurting him so much?
The kiss was a kiss derived from desperation, not love. It was a last ditch effort made by Crowley to get Aziraphale to admit his feelings and stay. It didn't work because Aziraphale is very set in his ways most of the time. He didn't see any love in that kiss, he saw the temptation to fall so that he could live out the rest of his eternity with Crowley. However, as stated previously, he fears falling so much that he won't take the temptation. He won't leave Heaven until he finally realizes that the problems are, in fact, institutional. That, in order to make a difference, he will have to join Crowley to completely tear down and rebuild the system.
