2D wasn’t normally a coffee drinker, but the mug was warm in his hands, the clock continued ticking, & it was made special for him. he could hardly turn it down under those circumstances. he was more of a tea drinker than anything, but nothing in america tasted quite the same — a little too sweet, the taste of the brew just a smidge too off kilter in a way he couldn’t place. for coffee, he didn’t have much frame of reference. but it tasted good & felt comfortable going down, & that’s all he needed.

he offers the woman across from him what he hopes was a grateful smile. “if y’write any faster, the pencil’s gonna catch a flame. you’ve got the talent, love. don’t burn out before you even get a chance to flicker.” 2D takes another sip from his mug, wincing only slightly with his singed tongue hanging from the corner of his mouth. too hot.

“what got you into music, anyway? for me, i’ve always liked it. never really thought much about doin’ it for real, though, until i was hit by a car. an’ thrown out of it.”
