Fade
CW: ANGST. Implied character death (sort of). Ambiguous ending. This is bad, guys. This is really, really sad. I’m sorry. I really am. This just needed to come out of me? Probably just don’t read it.

Logan was the first to go.
That made a horrible kind of sense. He was logic and reasoning, and logically, maintaining himself without a series to play a part in made no sense.
“I’m not real,” he told Roman one day, softly, sitting at the table in the kitchen and tapping his pen on the polished wood surface. His eyes were distant, behind his thick rimmed glasses, and the age lines at the corners of his mouth and eyes were deeper in the morning light. “Technically, none of us are. It doesn’t make sense to continue wasting resources to maintain a physical form when the series has been over for this long.”

Roman had watched him go, even though Logan had asked him not to, watching as his body had grown small and faded with each step he’d taken. And eventually, it had disappeared altogether, though not before Logan had turned and lifted his hand at Roman in one last wave. He’d known Roman would watch, request or no.
He hadn’t waved back. And he hadn’t cried. He’d wanted to, but the tears were stopped up in his throat, bottled up under the anger and betrayal. He knew he’d have to let that out, first, and he wanted no part of it.
Logan had chosen to leave, after all. Roman would not cry.
