hi yeah i really associate this song with this scene in shadow generations, so when i saw a banger color palette that referenced it i had to stop everything and do something with it. this is the result.

Blaze the Cat is seemingly implied to recognize Sonic the Hedgehog, as when Silver exclaims he sees a blue hedgehog as the Iblis Trigger Blaze ruminates on the description.

However, in the original Japanese script this line actually serves as a narrative misdirection and subtle foreshadowing.

There, Silver describes the hedgehog as "青い" (Aoi), which means both "blue" and "naive." Silver interprets the word as "blue" while Blaze considers its double meaning.

In short, Mephiles was intentionally hinting to the duo that he was manipulating them.

Similarly, when Mephiles explains the Day of Disaster to Silver he refuses to look Silver in the eye, however when Silver asks if he knows who's responsible he silently turns to stare at him. The cutscene direction seems to intentionally frame it as Mephiles being darkly humored by the question, or perhaps even acknowledging Silver as the culprit without his knowing.

Many people complain that Mephiles' plan to release Iblis was unnecessarily complicated and that involving Silver was unnecessary when it's already shown that killing Elise releases Iblis just as well, but Mephiles is intentionally characterized as karmic and theatrical in his actions, choosing the less optimal but more poetic route to his goals. In his mind, making Silver the true "Iblis Trigger" is a worthwhile detour.

Chip hummed a merry tune as he picked through their stores of food, settling on a chocolate bar before fluttering back to his new favorite bed -- that is, Sonic's dense nighttime fur.

"Oh, hey Sonic," he chirped, finding him sitting up and staring at the stars. "I didn't wake you, did I?" Not waiting for a response, he settled nearby and bit into his snack.

"Pretty night isn't it?" he continued, thinking little of his friend's silence. "Especially away from all the lights and stuff -- who knew there were so many stars!"

Sonic sighed, almost imperceptibly. Chip paused with a tilt of his head. "Hm? Is there something wrong, Sonic? …Sonic?"

Sonic remained silent. His eyes glinted with reflected starlight as he gazed into the sky. It wasn't until Chip was on the verge of anxiously offering his chocolate bar that he spoke:

"Do you remember, how we used to dance?"

Chip paused. Before he could fully make sense of the question, Sonic continued, waving a thick arm towards the heavens, his words slow and deliberate. "You and I, caught in an eternal cycle. Racing together through time and space, with nary a care in the world."

He held the gesture for a moment, before letting his arm drop unceremoniously to the ground. "No." he said, at length. "I suppose not."

A moment's silence.

"…Sonic?" Chip asked gently. "Are you okay…?" A moment. And a sigh. He finally dropped his gaze from the sky to the floor.

"Return to your slumber, godling," he said quietly. "The sun will rise soon enough."

"Sonic??" Chip fluttered around him anxiously. "What did you say? What do you mean?? Sonic!!"

Sonic jerked back at the outburst, blinking. "Huh-- whuh??"

"What did you call me?? You said something and I don't think I caught it, and you're acting all weird, and--"

Sonic rubbed his face. "I don't-- I didn't say anything Chip, I was asleep."

"What? No you weren't, you were talking and moving and everything! It was really weird!! You were talking about dancing and space and, and it wasn't like you at all!!"

Sonic frowned as he tried to process this stream of information while still groggy. "I don't.. remember anything? I thought I was just sleeping…"

Chip took a perch on his friend's knee and stared with wide-eyed worry as Sonic tried to think through the dense fog in his mind.

"I wonder if the Dark Gaia stuff is starting to get to me after all," he said, still holding his head. "I've been starting to feel kinda scrambled at night. And if my body is starting to do stuff when I'm asleep…"

Chip tumbled to the ground as Sonic stood up, shaking life back into his sleep-heavy limbs. "Huh? What're you doing, Sonic?"

"Naptime is over. If Dark Gaia is starting to get into my head then we need to finish this, and fast. C'mon Chip." He waved him over to follow as he stalked out into the night. "Let's find this next temple."

The first rays of sunrise cast Sonic's shadow long into the retreating night. Chip wavered uncertainly. Sonic was right: something was deeply wrong. He could feel it in his gut.

"Alright," he said at last, zipping after him. "But I got a funny feeling about this,"

I know in your last ask you said the werehog didn't go into a typical werewolf rage, but would there be an occasion where Sonic would? I'd imagine he would if his friends were hurt. (Your art is so good btw)

i feel like at this point its less what would make the werehog fly into a rage and more what would make your bog standard sonic fly into a rage. which is still an interesting question!! i feel like yeah, someone hurting his friends could rile him up pretty bad, like we saw in the third movie (though game sonic and movie sonic are not the same character i feel)

and i feel like once you get him that angry, the dark gaia energy hes absorbed might finally start to affect him emotionally and cause things to cascade a little. but again, i feel like itd take some doing to make that happen*.

The Werehog only acts intimidating. In reality, it's actually just big puppy. He'll melt when given scritches and headpats, forgets he's beeg, and so, so many other things.

Oh absolutely. He doesn't go into any sort of rage like a typical werewolf, but he's still very not used to this body and the way it responds to things! He melts when he gets headpats, he's much clumsier because he's not used to his new strength and size (beware of the werehog high five), his tail wags when he's excited, if he hears a howl he has a strong impulse to howl as well, and will instinctively want to chase things like frisbees and fleeing monsters.

He's initially embarrassed by all these things, but as he starts to accept his werehog form he becomes more comfortable with all this and will let himself have fun with it.
