holy frick. viv was super rude toward meppity's video. see, this is why viv shouldn't be surprised if somebody hates her work.
I actually watched the whole video, and all meppity variety redesigns are so good. like, Niffty built as a real cockroach but still looks adorable? that's peak design. it's also super helpful for artists who want to join character designing. so seeing viv just shit on the vid just because it's 3 hours long and that meppity calarts degree is useless to criticise her hazbin designs, then I'm wishing hard hazbin would be automatically cancelled by Prime if she keeps up with that awful attitude.
She was so, so polite, too. More polite than Viv deserves.
"I really don't want this video to come off as a hit piece."
"I genuinely respect her and the impact she's had on millions of people."
#It should be a huge compliment your show is such a prominent case study for character design!#People think your concepts have potential!#And it's educating young artists!#Of course Viv's ego is so fragile that she rips her hair out when people don't mindlessly kiss her ass

excuse me for stating the obvious but like. james gunn outright calling superman an immigrant and doubling down on it when he got backlash (because he IS an immigrant, that's the point of superman) + the in-movie dialogue of "aren't you going to read me my rights?" "you're an extraterrestrial, son. you haven't got any rights to read." + the violence of his arrest and how they torture and mistreat him unapologetically, all under the guise of "protecting america", in a film releasing during the onslaught of violent ICE kidnappings and abuse... yeah it's really no wonder right-wing knobheads are crying about this being woke. they're being forced to look directly at the reasons one of the most notorious heroes of all time would not be on their side. and that's only ONE of the reasons this movie covers

I think Vox looks better when the red is changed to purple. Something about the cyan and red directly next to each other hurts my eyes and feels unpleasant.
top 5 helluva/hazbin designs, go

Here’s them in order 🤓
I loooovvveeee the Cherub’s designs like genuinely they’re so adorable (besides the baby) I was gonna just choose every single top 5 as a Cherub but that didn’t seem fair ☠️☠️ The Cherubs all have nice color palettes and look different enough from each other aka aren’t all red so I enjoy themmmmmm
I like how Vox is blue and TV head… The blues make me go GRGRGRGRBALRBAKRBARKBAKR I like blyeeeee
Jhhhhh Niffty or whatever just has a nice siloete but her colors kind of suck ass like why is her hair and dress practically the same colr
Uhhhh Sir lent hes just here becaus he’s the only good chacahyer in Hazbin and uhhhh Yellow is my favorite coolr!! Why does he have eyes on his snak body also his hat pisses me off
This was hard because I hate all of the designs in some way besides maybe the Cheru
Ok bye ❤️ yay ❤️

Why Stella Will Never Be Like Beatrice
I heard in the next season that we will get Stella's backstory and it will be an attempt to make her into the next Beatrice Horseman. However, the problem with that is there is nothing to build for Stella to do that. And so far, all they have done is make her a one dimensional plot device to have Stolas be pitied so that it can excuse his infidelity and protect him for being called out for his shitty actions. With Beatrice, the marriage between her and her husband was mutually toxic and it wasn't one sided as portrayed with Stolas and Stella. Also despite how shitty Beatrice could be the narrative never treated Butterscotch's affairs as justified just because he was unhappily married to her and even more so Bojack catching him in the middle of one his flings was treated as a traumatizing event instead of laughs like in Helluva Boss. If they portrayed Stella and Stolas' marriage as mutually toxic with both of them having been miserable by the system that set them up, then she would have earned being compared to Beatrice. However, all she's going to be is a pale imitation because Vivziepop copies beats of stories she likes but doesn't have the skill to pull off the execution because she misses the point they were trying to make.

I used to think that I was bold. I used to think love would be fun. Now all the stories have been told, except for one. ❌️
If I had a box just for wishes and dreams that had never come true, the box would be empty, except for the memory of how they were answered by you ✅
Time in a Bottle is a beautiful song written by a father who tragically died and didn't get to spend nearly enough time with his son as I'm sure he would've wanted to. You really get the sense he loved his son and wanted to spend as much time with him as he could, to the point he'd bend reality to ensure he'd spend eternity with his baby boy. There aren't a lot of lyrics to the song, but pretty much all of them are focused on his bond with his son.
The main message of You Will Be Okay seems to be "I'll eventually die and maybe watch over you or something idk". Like, if you actually look at the lyrics, most of them are just "Things die and I'll die and you'll be okay when I'm gone". There's a couple of verses later in the song about how Octavia stole the Sun's light and put in in her eyes, eclipsing the midnight sun, and something about moons...but they kinda ring hollow (especially when you look at how Stolas treats Octavia in the show). It makes Stolas seem distant from Octavia.
I suppose you could argue You Will Be Okay is more comforting in the sense Stolas tries to be reassuring, while Time in a Bottle is more heartbreaking (especially when you know what happened to Jim Croce), but knowing your parent loved you to the degree expressed in Time in a Bottle feels more comforting than being told you'll be okay in someone's absence. Time in a Bottle focuses on closeness and togetherness while You Will Be Okay mainly focuses on distance and Octavia living without Stolas. Both focus on mortality, but Jim Croce is more desperate and pleading to have as much time with his son as possible. In comparison, Stolas seems like he's giving up.
You could also argue You Will Be Okay is written that way on purpose so Octavia can have her angsty reprise, but I think it'd be more impactful if there was a contrast between the two songs. As things stand, it basically feels like—
"You'll be okay without me."
"I'll be okay without you."

"Stella wasn't made evil, she was ALWAYS evil, she's been abusive from the first episode, she's a one-dimensional character"
The first episode, first episode....ooh you mean the episode...where she found out she was cheated on by her husband, in their bed? Yeah, cause people would just act normal about that....because being cheated on isn't some huge deal or anything right?....RIGHT?
Ooh and then we have her VA liking a tweet, about being heart broken and not thinking straight while still in S1. Which actually would have made her something of a character, if they explored that in S2, instead of chickening out by babying Stolas.
But even moreso....even going by the fact of a 'one-dimensional character' she's pretty bad, considering she's basically sidelined throughout all of S2...to where she may not even be in the Season anyway, considering Andrealphus took over.
Not really going to check out S3, but I'm not exactly confident in Stella's backstory, feel like this should have been introduced way sooner or at least hinted at. But let's say her backstory does really go into some mental issues or something in S3....well ok...but I don't see how that really fits in with S2?
Considering she was all cackling laughing and what not with her brother(especially in the Finale...seriously, what was that scene??). I feel like her character is all over the place here.
Though also if you do that, you get rid of this 'one-dimensional character' that fans kept spouting about sooo....maybe I'm missing something, but S2 has done nothing to really give any indication of Stella's actual character when it would have been a perfect opportunity from S1....but they didn't....so now if S3 they actually do anything meaningful, it's going to feel kind of jarring I think?
Either she's apparently a 'one-dimensional' character or she's not, you can't have it be both ways. But then again, given the writing of this Season I'm not really surprised considering how it's not even consistent with S1.
Yeah, being evil shouldn't be an excuse for lazy writing and the Helluva Boss/Hazbin Hotel setting really has some of the laziest villain writing. And again the show has a major problem with character consistency that include Stella. That's the problem with a one note person is that they are so flat you can make them be a thing one moment and another thing the next. It just shows that the writers don't really know what to do with them unless they had a set vision for them and stick with it.

is it just me or does hh/hb absolutely kill their eyes?? like: I was really into the show, but I genuinely couldn’t watch it because of the fact that I am like. Half blind, and use colors mostly to distinguish characters. Hell, you can see it in the games and shows I do watch- (Cuphead related content / Bendy / Dandy’s world) - that they have the same level of detail (if not more, especially new bendy) but don’t hurt to look at.
seriously is viv allergic to using like. A non red color-?

this has been said already by other people but I'm disappointed with the uncreative portrayal of Hell.
sinners having to live together in one city isn't really a punishment. They can just do whatever they want with no repercussions, which is like... the opposite of what Hell is supposed to be?
sinners don't suffer, they have normal lives like we do. They have hobbies, access to entertainment, technology, entire buildings and other structures that appeared out of thin air I guess.
basically, there's no punishment for those who commited sin.
Hell is pointless.

Apparently the hotel design changed because Vivziepop had a falling out with the former BG designer so she couldn’t keep it the same
So out of laziness, not gonna fact check. But even if this is true, I still pretty much stand by my points. For the sake of a lowbudget show, simplifying the hotel down was just a good choice. Drawing all those little windows would've been a pain for any shots that had the hotel. And they certainly cut off any unnecessary fat off the design (like again, the carasoul was useless).
However, the og bg artist didn't own the tone or idea of a rundown hotel. They still could've given the hotel those vibes of a rundown, old place! Like the ship, while I STILL don't quite understand why it's there (other than it being for Baxter or something), the ship looks integrated and matches the abandoned feel of the pilot hotel. In the series, the ship looks very out of place and is the only thing that looks "tattered" so to speak whereas the rest of the building looks like a relatively nice looking hotel.

The way Viv treats her shows reminds me a lot of when I was like 13 and made my first fanfic that got so popular the fame went to my head and the following happened that I also see with Viv:
Keeps introducing more OCs, doesn’t kill the darlings, tortures and puts the least favorites or ones based off people that author hates into unfortunate situations
Ships. Ships everywhere. Even if theyre incompatible, theyre now a thing
Plotholes everywhere
Randomly inserts shit that author thinks is cool or is heavily into at the time even if it makes no sense
Author treats themself as god and anyone who has a problem with the work is just a hater
Author keeps posting trivia in side blogs or qnas and doesnt actually answer stuff in the actual media
All these are pretty accurate and have already happened with Vivziepop multiple times. I remember when I watched a YouTube short interview that featured Vivziepop stating “I’m not afraid to kill a character off 😈” It’s pretty laughable because it’s either a side character nobody will remember or someone who is important to the main cast that isn’t completely dead.
Yeah, a ship has taken over the fandom and by extension the show like Helluva Boss. Yup, Lots of plot holes in Hazbin Hotel and Helluva Boss.
Number 4 is interesting because it has happened many times except Vivziepop just steals from fans and employees especially if she likes your idea (even if it dumb and doesn’t fit the story). The trivia is painfully accurate, it’s not just Vivziepop who does it. Ayy lmao and other content similar to him does that. Even Prime Video did that in livestream that had trivia when Hazbin Hotel was debuting.
“Did you know that Vivziepop’s favorite characters are the red, edgy, super hot, Bambi middle school OC, Alastor and the neglectful father figure who really needs be called out more, super depressed onceler: Lucifer who literally looks more like Charlie’s little twin brother. The playbill had trivia too.

I'm all for "it's free real estate", though I feel like it's sometimes used to excuse bad writing.
I've seen people rewriting and expanding on shows to the point it seems like they care more about the characters than their own creator, yet these creative people attribute their brilliance to the creator, who did the bare minimum of providing a sandbox for them to play in.
If you're going to claim your free real estate, remember that YOU are the source of your brilliance. Don't give someone else the credit through "subtext" that doesn't exist.
"this female character is underdeveloped" TO YOU. I can read subtext and I know all about her backstory and her rich inner life. also she told me personally
#Also...consider writing OCs#Use the poorly developed characters as a gateway drug to making your own characters

Viv in general don’t understand “kill your darlings” (remove characters and plotlines that aren’t necessary to the story so it can flow better), she has habit of constantly adding new characters and plotlines, hazbin hotel itself expects you to care or give a damn about a large cast of characters in only eight episodes!
I yapped too much lmao.
I think once Viv gets attached to a character's design, she does not want to scrap the character. She is (was? I remember seeing that she does not draw that much anymore) a character designer at the end of the day.
The reason I like to talk about the character designs so much is because I like to create original characters. I was a Sonic artist who was posting their characters on DeviantArt back in the day. The act of creating original characters is a fun process.
After graduating high school, I created around 34 - 40 characters. I just made them for fun and they did not really have a story, a universe they live in, or personalities (more like bullet point traits).
Years later, I gave certain characters full written out personalities, backstories, and other lore stuff. If I could not think of a personality or role in the story for a character, I got rid of characters regardless of how attach I was when I created them. They no longer serve a purpose.
Now, I currently have 22 characters because I view characters as tools to move a story forward. I understand Hazbin having a decent number of characters because it is (more like was) about a hotel. Every episode in Hazbin introduces a new character or characters and more are on the way and minor characters we saw in season one will get more screen time. (Saint Peter the toilet brush who needs to stay at those golden gates and never show up again).
The time wasted on introduces new characters could have been saved for the hotel residents (Angel and Sir P) and learning more about them as people and their lives on Earth or give us a reason to care about the nameless sinners that feared of getting killed each year.
If I had to rewrite season one, none of the overlords (minus Al because he 'works' at the hotel) would have been included, maybe just small hints at their existence. Kept Adam and Lute in episode one to establish them as villains but the other Heaven characters would have been saved for season two. Lucifer would not appear either, maybe he leaves Charlie voicemails, but she never answers.
In Helluva, certain characters are just there or just for merch. The shit Andrealphus is pulling should have been Stella pulls all the strings to fucked over Stolas. She does not need a brother. There is not even a hint to Andy's existence, his ugly ass just appears out of cold air.
Then there is Vassago who should have been in season one as Stolas' only friend and someone he trusts. Stolas do not speak to each other in Mastermind (I do not think Stolas looks at his direction) nor does Vassago shown up in Sinmas. He would have been used to help Stolas get in contract with Via to make sure she was okay.
Viv creates characters but forgets to add the purpose to them.
