What color is it? how big is the ball? What do you feel when you picture this?
When you’re done, you merely place your hands back together and picture the energy going back into your hands
“Clapping” exercise
steps
close your eyes and breath deeply
clap your hands together softly, then picture a ripple effect of color/light coming from your hands after the clap
continue this step, and as you do gradually make the clap stronger and stronger
finish the exercise with one loud clap
“Breath from your Stomach” exercise
steps
sit down and start to breath
once you’ve properly relaxed, you will picture a large glowing ball in your stomach
with every inhale the ball gets brighter
with every exhale the light spreads throughout your body
continue this, till the ball completely engulfs you

sit down somewhere nice and comfortable, and once you’ve relaxed you can begin
picture yourself standing up from your body and leaving it behind.

How To Stop Using Your Own Energy To Fuel Your Witchcraft

Do you ever feel like you have to wait to be in just the right state to do magic?
Maybe you’ve been told you shouldn’t do magic when you’re sick.
Or maybe you’ve just found that spells tend to flop when you’re tired or sad.
THE PROBLEM IS, FOR MANY OF US THIS CAN MAKE UP THE MAJORITY OF OUR LIVES!
From illnesses to working multiple jobs, raising kids or mental health struggles, life is messy and you just can’t maintain that optimal magic working state all the time.
This can be SO FRUSTRATING but today I’ve got a solution for you!
Now, sadly I can’t fix the parts of your life that drain you or wear you down. As much as I would love to have the ultimate answer to how to have that pinterest perfect life I am in the same boat as everyone else.
What I can do is show you how to work magic anyway.
You have to stop relying on your own energy. I know it sounds a little nuts, energy is literally what magic runs on and now I want you to just remove it from the equation?! What?
I promise I haven’t lost it and YES, that’s exactly what I want! Or at least I want you to make energy way less of a key player in your magic.
I want you to never have to worry about whether or not you have enough energy to work magic ever again.
This is all explained in detail, including energy work and getting past all of the things that are stopping your from practicing your craft, in my new program Old World Witchcraft.
You achieve this by using other sources of energy to fuel your work.
Pulling energy from other sources is a way to fuel spells when you’re low on energy yourself or you’re working on something very big that needs more than you can safely offer.
Basically what you’re doing is finding an alternative source of energy and channeling the energy you take from it into your work in much the same way you would channel your own energy into it. Instead of being the source of energy in this case you’re simply a conduit, connecting power source to magic and allowing the entire framework to run without needing your input, only your direction.
The first step in this process is finding a good source.
This source can be anything;
Plants
Animals
Crystals
People
The earth
The moon
etc.
It’s important to take into consideration that if you’re pulling from a living source you must ask permission first. It’s usually easiest to choose a source that you’re comfortable with, if you don’t work with plants much using plant energy in your magic is going to feel clunky and unwieldy, stick to what’s familiar.
Once you’ve found a source it’s time to connect your energy to it. If you’ve ever grounded and connected your energy to the earth it’s much the same. Take a deep breath, close your eyes and feel for the energy of your source. Visualize your energy and the sources energy connecting and mingling together.
Begin gently pulling the energy from your source into yourself, it might feel a little odd to do this so be careful during this process. Often pulling too much energy into yourself can cause some unpleasant symptoms such as lightheadedness, nausea, and giddiness. For this reason I suggest you have whatever you’re channeling the energy into at the ready so you can immediately pass the energy from the source, through yourself and into your spell.
You do NOT want to use yourself as a holding bay for that energy any more than you absolutely must.
It can take a bit of practice to get this technique down well enough to be used in spell work. I would suggest starting with training exercises to get comfortable before trying to use it for any big spell work.
As an example, you could try pulling energy from a plant or the earth and passing it into a stone or crystal and then back again. As you get more comfortable you can work up to transferring different energies and in greater quantities.
This technique can be used in a variety of ways, obviously, as I suggested, it’s good for adding a little extra power to your spells but it could also be used to store energy for later spells in crystals or tools. You could use it to heal yourself by channeling the energy into your own body where there are deficiencies causing pain or illness. You could even do this in reverse to deactivate a spell (it’s suggested that you not deactivate a spell by channeling into a living being, the earth is best in this case).
It’s always a good idea to thank whatever has leant its energy to you, fertilizing or watering a plant, cleansing a crystal, picking up litter for the earth, whatever you can manage to show your thanks and be respectful.
After using this technique it is always advised to finish by grounding yourself. Moving large amounts of energy can pull your own energy out of balance leaving you with too much or too little or even leaving residue of whatever you were moving stuck to your own energy. Plugging into the earth and allowing your energy to equalize and come back to a balanced state will prevent any negative side effects.
Do you have a better grasp on how to outsource your energy needs? I’d love to hear about it in the comments!
And if you want to know more about how to become a witch and work magic the smart way, go check out my program Old World Witchcraft!

The Wellness Wheel Tarot Spread
**Based on a concept discussed in one of my counseling courses, where each slice of the wheel represents a section of your life and how well you feel like you’re doing in that area**
The idea behind this spread is to pull one card for each area of wellness to give you an idea of how you can improve that area of wellness. Under each section of wellness I’ve included just a few topics that might relate to that section. You can ask about a specific topic or just the overall area of wellness for each card.
1. Spiritual Wellness
-Connection to nature
-Belief in the divine
-Connection to a community
-Sense of self or sense of purpose
-Meaning in life
2. Financial Wellness
-Abundance and income
-Stability
-Paid vs. Unpaid work
-Productivity and work ethic
3. Physical Wellness
-Sleep
-Diet and exercise
-Medical appointments
-Medication/ vitamins
4. Emotional Wellness
-Awareness and acceptance of emotions
-Mindfulness
-Ability to Identify and express emotions
-Emotional stability/ regulation
-Use of positive coping strategies
5. Social Wellness
-Healthy and positive interactions
-Communication
-Sense of community
-Hobbies
-Social connections to family, friends, pets etc.
6. Intellectual Wellness
-Stimulating activities
-Challenges and engagement
-Productivity
-Continued learning
7. Environmental Wellness and Safety
-Do you feel safe in your immediate environment?
8. Overall Wellness
-What do you need to know to raise your wellness overall?

The Seed. a tarot spread for ostara.
1. The Soil.
Where have you grown? While it most certainly is the dawn of a new day, keep in mind your roots are proof that you have already come a long way. The soil is your past. What lesson can you learn from days gone by?
2. The Weed.
You wish to flourish and grow strong, but there is undoubtedly something that is stunting your progress. What are your obstacles, what’s holding you back?
3. The Seed.
Within your immediate future, which area of your life will you first see signs of growth? Which seed has taken hold?
4. The Sun.
The love and support of others is helpful. But the will to grow comes from within. Let the sun be a reminder of what you need to keep in mind in order to help yourself grow.
5. The Rain.
A blessing in disguise. Understand that not all things are always as they seem. Grey skies can sometimes bring you down, but like the sun, rain too is necessary. Through struggle, you will find strength. What blessing in disguise is upon your horizon?

Merry Put-Your-Astrological-Dates-Into-Your-Calendar Day
It’s time for an Ash’s Family yearly tradition! Loading up the NASA website, gathering all my almanacs, and inputting every significant astronomical and planetary timing event into my Google calendar. This way, you can always be prepared in 2016 when Mercury goes into retrograde or the Blood Moon appears (you know there’s 2 next year?). I like to arrange my dates digitally so I can wake up each morning with an alert as to whether something important is happening. I also like to manually copy my dates/events into my Witch’s Almanac, which luckily has a lot of them plotted out already.
Things to Include in your Planetary Calendar:
Conjunctions of planets
Eclipses (lunar and solar)
Supermoons
Blood Moons
Asteroids and meteor showers
Planets going into retrograde
Passing of the sun and/or moon into different Houses or Signs
Solstices and Equinoxes (or the Sabbats or Wheel, if that’s more your thing)
When each new Moon begins (or, if you’d prefer, each Full Moon)
This is obviously just the tip of the astronomical iceberg! Lots of spacely activity has a relation to earthly magic. If you’re ever unsure of the implications of an event, you can always look it up before inputting.

A Mercury Retrograde Tarot Spread
1. Signifier: Mercury Retrograde - Place The Magician reversed in the center of your spread to represent Mercury moving backwards.
2. Artifact - What is Mercury dredging up for me in this retrograde period?
3. Affect - How is it (the “what” represented by card #2) affecting me?
4. Signifier: Action - What would I like to do with this pattern/energy/baggage/what-have-you?
Cross the reversed Magician with: The Hierophant to learn from or teach something, Justice to set something right, Death to lay something to rest and move on, Temperance to integrate and balance past and present, or The Sun to rekindle something.
5. Lesson - What do I have to learn from it now? 6. Resolution - How can I best resolve it? What strategies can I draw on to learn from it, set it right, lay it to rest, integrate it, or rekindle it? Notes The signifiers are optional. I know some folks are averse to consciously choosing and placing cards in a spread. If that’s you, no worries, you can skip the center cross.
You do, however, need to consciously decide what you want to do with the pattern you’re examining here in order to know what question card #6 addresses. It takes different strategies to rekindle a forgotten talent than it does to lay an old blockage to rest. For this reason, I recommend that you draw cards 4-6 only after you’ve drawn and analyzed cards 1-3.
You can use this spread anytime you’re feeling haunted by your own past. It doesn’t need to be a Mercury Retrograde to ask the same basic questions. Just use a personal significator, upright, for card #1, and ask, “what old pattern is haunting me?” or “what past baggage is on my case now?” for card #2.

i’m a recent queer college grad and i’m struggling a little rn to find a job/make rent, so here are some small things I can offer for a negotiable fee dependent on what your request is
- Tarot readings! ($12/minimum, varying depending on scale of reading)
I have been reading tarot for around seven years and have multiple decks/lots of experience to draw from. I can do in person for people who live in western mass or FaceTime/over the internet, and have examples of my readings I can provide if this is something that interests you
- Research into a topic/making a reading list for you! ($12/minimum, varying depending on scale of project)
I studied history at my college, have a lot of experience as a dramaturg, have undertaken many large-scale research projects, and am great at doing deep delves into niche topics. I won’t write a research paper for you, but I will look into a topic and send you what I find/sources/readings
- Write a small play on a topic of your choosing ($30-$60 depending on request and scale of project)
If you give me a general topic/theme I will write a small 5-10 page play for you! I can send along examples of my work if this is something that interests you, and I am an experienced playwright who has had a full-length show produced for my senior thesis project, and have written many small one-acts
let me know if you are interested in commissioning me for any of these things, and feel free to reblog~~

Tarot Tips
🃏 Find The Empress in your deck. The card behind her will reveal what you need to do to nurture and care for yourself.
🃏 When in conflict or competition with someone, look for 5 of Wands. The card behind it will reveal the solution to the problem.
🃏 If you see the same card over and over again in readings, it is a sign and you must pay attention to its message for you.
🃏 For a better understanding of each card, observe it closely and form your own interpretation that follows its themes. It will help you interpret readings better.
🃏 To find out what is making you feel stuck or delayed, look to The Hanged Man. The card underneath him will show what is holding you back. The card in front of him will show you how to overcome it.
🃏 When shuffling your cards, if any card drops out of your grasp, take it as a sign and read the card.
🃏 You do not need crystals with you to do proper readings, but a good way to cleanse your deck is to place a clear quartz on the top of your deck before each reading. Keep in mind; there’s a variety of ways you can cleanse your deck.
🃏 Often when The High Priestess appears in a reading, she is trying to tell you that you know the answers and that you should listen to your inner voice.
🃏 There is no wrong way to shuffle or cleanse your deck. Do what feels right for you!
