“It was a bit surreal watching Charles pass Romain Grosjean at Rascasse during the 2019 Monaco Grand Prix – it made the hair stand up on the back of my neck, because it was a carbon copy of a fantastic move Jules had pulled on Kamui Kobayashi at the same point in 2014.”
A move into Rascasse, five years apart. In 2014, Jules Bianchi recorded his and Marussia F1′s first and only points with an epic drive from 20th position to 8th, only bumped down to 9th by a time penalty. It was an incredible feat, given that Monaco is known to be difficult to overtake, and Marussia was a backmarker team. Many were certain that Jules had a future at Ferrari and could even win a championship someday. Unfortunately, Jules would pass away the following year, succumbing to injuries from his severe accident at the 2014 Japanese Grand Prix. His godson, Charles Leclerc, would follow in his footsteps to the Ferrari Driver Academy, and then go on to drive for Scuderia Ferrari in 2019.

after reading some shitty posts both here and on f1twt post-race let me just get this off my chest: if you turn your back on charles leclerc after committing ONE SINGLE MISTAKE you were NEVER his fan to begin with. that man has devoted his whole heart and soul to ferrari, to the tifosi, and to this sport. don’t disrespect him like that.
he made a mistake? sure, and he was the first to admit it. believe me, that man is a perfectionist and possibly the most self-critical person on this planet. he’s gonna blame himself for disappointing the team, the tifosi because he wanted to do good, for us, for ferrari and for italy. he wanted to win a casa nostra, to show everybody that ferrari is back where it belongs after many years of crushed dreams and false hopes. he took a risk and it didn’t pay off, sure. could he have waited? yeah, sure. couldn’t he be satisfied with his 3rd place? yeah, sure. but when you have a car that performs to win, when you are in front of your people, when you have something to prove then you take that risk. sometimes it pays off, sometimes you get the short end of the stick and it fucks you over. but that’s how a winner thinks: he never settles, especially if he knows he can do better or fight for a better placement.
he’ll be back stronger, more determined and hungrier, and it will pay off in the end. i’m sure of that, a 100%. i believe in him and i believe in my team. ❤️

The Emilia Romagna 2022 GP killing me softly
Tumblr media
Have I been around 5-6 hours shamelessly procrastinating instead of coming here and unburdening myself of all the shit that was going through my mind after that race? Indeed, I have. And now I'm basically writing this late because yes, I'm a fucking mess 🤦🏻‍♀️
Of all the shitshows I was considering possible for this race, worst case scenario was the chosen option, I see. In the words of Günther Steiner, paraphrasing... probably: fucking hell. No way in hell did I see this shit coming, honestly. I hope this is the last time this crap is pulled during this season, otherwise I might have a stroke before the season ends. Marina and I were talking during the race and we came to the conclusion that I've become her during season 2021. Which is true. I worried, I almost cried, I shouted at my laptop, I cursed my way through the whole race, I hated on plenty of the drivers, and so on. And for what.
Tumblr media
Anyway, I'm not sure I'll get passed this, it was terrible. No upsides, no fun stuff whatsoever. 1-2 from RBR + Lando 3rd 🤬, Daniel hitting Carlos in the 1st lap and making Carlos retire (not that I care much about Carlos, but good thing my boy went after the race to apologize to him like the teddy bear he is), Leclerc clowning (I'm sorry, darling, but you know it's true) at the very end of the race, Mick unfairly falling back to almost dead last, Lewis 13th (thanks to Ocon's penalty since he was actually 14th)... I can't even begin to describe the clownery on this one.
I might get burned for saying this again, but I'm truly angry at Mercedes. Like, seriously pissed off. From my perspective, as always, I see that yeah Toto apologized to Lewis for the shitty car, but Jesus Christ Torger Wolff, THEN DO SOMETHING USEFUL ABOUT IT SO THAT YOU DON'T HAVE TO, MAYBE? Like, they have our guy there trying stuff nobody knows what for anymore, having more weight put onto his tractor of a car and on the other side you have George (nothing against him) calmly swinging by ending up P4 with the "same" tractor. Excuse me, what!? I'll say it once (again) and I'll say it twice and I'll say it indefinitely until proven wrong. This is the year Mercedes HAS TO give Lewis everything to win this shitty championship, it's not the year to make him lose it, with no one else to blame this time but themselves. Otherwise, all the promises made and all the pain have absolutely no meaning. And I'm not denying that engineers, mechanics and everyone in the team have worked their asses off, because they have, as they always do, but the result doesn't show it at all.
And now we have Karen Horner saying that Lewis is after all an "eight-time world champion". When you say something without thinking you, deep down you mean it and, in the words of George Russell himself, that's a FACT! Okay, I need to stop.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Then, like it hadn't been hard enough already, I came to Tumblr to seek some solace after this crappy race, and what do I find? The saddest, most heartbreaking image from this day, Charles totally devastated after his failed attempt and resulting crash against the wall (ever so lightly that he could go on at least). I was sending an audio message to Marina while he crashed and I haven't asked her, but I was shocked at the very least, so the audio message must have been funny to hear 🥲 My poor little demon. It was a great effort, but ultimately wasn't bound to happen today I guess.
Tumblr media
Last thing I wanna comment on, even though I haven't seen it myself and I had to ask what it was about (remember, I've missed almost 8 years of Formula 1, so I had no clue this happened) before saying anything about it, but apparently some tifosi fans have showed a very racist banner that happened to go viral a few years ago, as usual being racist to Lewis. What a shocker, huh? Worst thing is that most (if not all) media have showed it without remarking how disrespectful and wrong that was. No, no, they just showed if for a good 20-30 seconds and said nothing about it. Good job, Europe. Very, very nice. As if the act itself wasn't bad enough, you all just gave them screentime. For fuck's sake. It's 2022 and this just never seems to stop. Can we be any more stupid as a whole? I wish I could say no, but I know it wouldn't be true. We seriously NEED to do better. We've learnt nothing, it's so fucking sad.
Next race: Miami. New track in the US, which I wasn't looking forward to (even though I'm one US fan, but for more tourist and simple reasons). I mean, didn't we have enough with COTA? Where's Germany? Which has 2 fantastic and crazy tracks where we could enjoy very interesting scenarios, but noooooo. Jesus. Let's hope at least it's a better one, I'm not asking for it to even be a good one at this point.
Until then, peace out darlings!

I think a lot about how we as a culture have turned “forever” into the only acceptable definition of success.
Like… if you open a coffee shop and run it for a while and it makes you happy but then stuff gets too expensive and stressful and you want to do something else so you close it, it’s a “failed” business. If you write a book or two, then decide that you don’t actually want to keep doing that, you’re a “failed” writer. If you marry someone, and that marriage is good for a while, and then stops working and you get divorced, it’s a “failed” marriage.
The only acceptable “win condition” is “you keep doing that thing forever”. A friendship that lasts for a few years but then its time is done and you move on is considered less valuable or not a “real” friendship. A hobby that you do for a while and then are done with is a “phase” - or, alternatively, a “pity” that you don’t do that thing any more. A fandom is “dying” because people have had a lot of fun with it but are now moving on to other things.
I just think that something can be good, and also end, and that thing was still good. And it’s okay to be sad that it ended, too. But the idea that anything that ends is automatically less than this hypothetical eternal state of success… I don’t think that’s doing us any good at all.

So it's only "Don't mix sport with politics" when it doesn't fit your agenda?
So Lewis is a clown for talking about BLM, for bringing awareness to what's happening in Palestine, for taking the knee?
But when drivers do the bare minimum of posting the same picture with the same copy pasted caption they're the heroes? Hypocrisy

I can’t believe I’m seeing some Max fans saying Mercedes and Lewis fans are sore losers or trying to console us with how Lewis will be back and better next year... What Fia done today was just unacceptable, how can you justify that? They broke several of their own rules, they changed the rules of the game in the middle of it and somehow got away with it. Imagine if this happened in any other sport, imagine that a football team is winning 7-0 and you tell them that the next goal is going to decide who wins, what kind of dystopian bullshit is that, I don’t think even Hunger games would get away with that.
You say that Max deserved the title... well so did Lewis. Coming to this last weekend they were level on point - they were both equally as deserving of the title before this race. But Lewis was better in this race, he started better he was in the lead for 57.5 laps and before the safety car he was leading by 12 seconds. This was his victory and they robbed him. So you know what I hope Mercedes takes this to the court and I hope they win. Because I’m tired of this injustice, I’m tired of special behaviour towards certian people and nations. And of being told to suck it up and move on. I’m not a person of colour (and there is no way I want to pretend that I know what it feels like to be the victim of racism or compare the experiencies of my people to that of poc). But I’m from a small post-comunist eastern european country and we often have to fight twice as hard just to prove our worth and I don’t think you comprehend the pain you feel when you don’t have to fight not only your rivals, but also the system itself.
Lastly I’m done, I’m so done with this narrative of “better luck next time”. As designer Kerby Jean-Raymond said in his ig story: “Life is short. Tomorrow isn’t promised and more time is not guaranteed for any of us. We shouldn’t console him with ‘next year’.” What counts is here and now. And the fact is that the Fia robbed him of his 8th title, so yeah we have every right to be angry and Merc has every right to protest this shit show of wrong doings. After all let’s not pretend that if the roles were reversed Redbull wouldn’t do the same, I’m pretty sure Chistian Horner would actually throw a fit in the middle of the award ceremony.

This is gonna sound drastic but if the courts don’t set this right I hope Mercedes pulls out and takes their engines with them lol.

I have a very unbiased opinion about car 33 winning the championship, but to be honest Lewis isn't even my favourite driver. I respect and appreciate the driver and the man, but I have never been Lewis' number 1 fan.
But it seriously pisses me off that we are celebrating a man who has said countless slurs in the past, who talks trash about a 7 time world champion, who never admits his mistakes and always blames the other drivers and, who drives dirty. And the list could go on.
But honestly it would have been any other driver, who would have won without the last lap shenanigans, that would have been fine by me.
But I can't celebrate a man who never takes responsability for his sh*tty behaviour and doesn't even try to change. (And don't even get me started on Horner)

Now that I've had a breather and since been updated with Merc's protest, here's my take and probably unpopular opinion:
I don't think Max deserves to have the championship taken off him. It's not his fault what happened today, love him or hate him. (I'm not his biggest fan believe me) It shouldn't have happened and this is all on the FIA. They need to be looked at long and hard.
I don't think handing the title to Lewis would make him any happier because it would be overshadowed just as Max's current title is overshadowed by all this mess.
However, if it's true about Max overtaking Lewis ... Who knows.
This is so messy 😩

charles has managed to gain access to the fia hq through his manager who he specifically selected because he is the son of jean todt and is marching down the halls in his alexander mcqueen trainers being let in everywhere he goes because now he’s learnt how to wink he is literally unstoppable in that respect and finally finds himself face to face with The Stewards and just casually reminds them that he has not forgotten austria 2019 and if he’s been serving cunt on the low-key since it’s about to get a whole lot worse unless they address the brazil onboards. they start to shake their heads as if he’s all chat but then charles just chuckles and sits them down in front of their big screens. you see that? he says to them as he points to maxs steering wheel, that is how i’m going to defend from now on and if you so much as lift a finger in my direction just know that you have the entirety of italy, all the unhinged non italians and that dude from wtf1 coming your way so please choose wisely. then he gives them a huge grin and skips away to go and shoot some other odd pr video with carlos safe in the knowledge that he’s just like that and he runs the whole show actually
