I have seen the r slur used positively once, about 15 years ago, and it was wild. I volunteered for a special ed group at my school during class time when I was in 2nd or 3rd grade because I didn't actually need to be in reading classes so they just let me go help out.

In my second year of doing it, the kids in the special ed class put on a recital that I went to go see, where they just danced and had fun. It was great!

On the way back to our cars, one of the kids ran past me and my parents pumping his arms up and down, jazzed up, yelling the r slur over and over to himself like it was a crowd chant at a sports game.

Financial Status Update August 1st 2025

Alright so we did not hit our income quota for July but we did get enough for me to still make a little above minimum wage at least.

But not hitting our income quota last month means we REALLY REALLY need to hit it this month.

It is currently $0/$3,454.82.

We will be refreshing the whole Eureka product line on itchio later this month, including the itchio release of the Eureka adventure module Murder at the Belle Nuit which has been patreon exclusive so far while we continue to work the bugs out of it.

Just to clarify, there's a bill that would STOP credit card companies from controlling who's allowed to spend money on porn or "risque" (read: queer) content. If you don't think big business should be able to tell you what to spend your own damn money on, call your senators and reps to let them know! It's the Fair Access to Banking Act, H.R.987 in the House, S.410 in the Senate.

are there any other ttrpgs youd say are a good example to look at as games written in a specific register or as an inworld character?

Even in its an example that seems obvious; I'm coming from the wargaming side where its often attempted but rarely done well, turnip28 is one I know of that properly has fun with it, so I'm interested to see examples of rulebooks that actually pull it off

umm off the top of my head, nobilis is fantastic about this. in 3rd edition there's a villain whose statblock is not included because he helped the fictionalized jenna moran write the rulebook and so she refuses to reveal his secrets.

paranoia's rulebook is filtered through the same funhouse mirror jorjorwel lens as the rest of the game, with sections of the rulebook that are considered treasonous for the player's to to read

praise the hawkmoth king is interspersed with little tips from 'hawkmoth-chan', the cutesy mascot persona of the titular hawmoth king, which are all uniformly monstrous and evil things to suggest presented in the tone of a skyrim loading tip with a cute kaomoji at the end

you will die in this place is a house-of-leaves/beginner's-guide style narrative framed as one character presenting another character's work after editing and annotating, switching between rules text, footnotes, and notes from the first character's editor

and not to toot my own horn, but most trusted advisors is deliberately written in a sneering, slightly conspiratorial register, a blackadderseque peanut gallery member inviting you to join in with its derision for the player characters.

Hey guys something fucking bad happened

KOSA/the kids online safety act has been reintroduced into legislature after it passed Senate last year and then got snubbed. It is not unlike the bill that just passed in the UK a few weeks ago. If you don't want what happened in the UK to happen here, now would be a good time to vocally oppose it.

Here is a petition that can be signed by Americans. Attached to the petition is an easy tool that allows you to call and leave messages for your representatives. I have already done so. You can also email your representatives by searching for their name, most have message submission boards as well. This thing died once, it can die again.

Please sign/share the petition and contact your representatives.

Heads up, UK friends.

Discord has implemented the age verification requirement system per the upcoming law going into affect later this week early, so prepare yourself for other sites, which may include Tumblr given the intent is to target adult content which may affect here because of how it still does get posted here, even if the intended targets are the actual site for it.

As of writing, the official petition to have the Online Safety Act repealed is close to 30,000 signatures, but it's barely enough to garner much attention to where it may be dismissed by Parliament, or may get discussed but not getting to where it'll be repealed to actually figure a system that doesn't carry the risk of private information getting leaked.

So again, please help spread and sign the official petition here.

This was like, stupidly good, and despite the tomato + cream no it’s not even in the same zip code as pasta alla vodka.

If you’re looking at this and balking at preserved lemons—a) if you’re anywhere near a Whole Foods, they sell a preserved lemon purée thingie which would work fine, maybe even better, since it texturally blends without any effort b) while I personally cannot be arsed, it’s not that hard to MAKE preserved lemon (chop up some lemons, put them in a jar with salt, ignore for awhile) c) and frankly, if it really came to it, I believe you could could swap in judicious use of straight lemon juice and some extra salt for the preserved lemon.

(Sourcing or replacing the preserved lemon, by the way, is the only even slightly tricky part here. Otherwise this takes like ten minutes and that is accounting for time spent tasting the sauce with your pinky finger and going “hm. another dab of honey and a whisper more of salt, perhaps” five times in a row.)
