This is from a short story I'm making that currently has no name. Rip Morality but I desperately wanted to write about mermaids sooo...

Ripples sent between them, the mermaid raises her webbed hand out of the water and examines it before glancing at Kyra with a tilted head.

I did 2,136 words today! Not of Morality, but I'm counting it because I got some writing done at least. Tomorrow I have a party to plan all day and then proceed to attend, so I hope I can sneak in at least a few words.

I stayed home from work because I still feel like absolute garbage, but it does give me some time for some writing. Let's see how far I get today. I don't think I'm gonna force anything, today is suppose to be a day for me to get better and I can't do that if I force myself to write the entire time.

What other media (tv, film, books, comics, etc) inspired your NaNo project?

Honestly, fanfiction inspired my project. There was a point where I was really hyperfixated on these youtubers and started to read some fanfiction based on their fake GTA personas. It dealt with a lot of crime and such, and my story was originally going to be a fanfiction? It's much different than what it was going to be, but that is where it started. After I had an idea, I daydreamed until it became what I have going for me now.

I've read a few books involving grim reapers and was also at the time consuming a podcast that had a character who was a grim reaper, so I think all of that combined became my little nanowrimo project.

Morality

Fantasy - Potentially Paranormal

Graham wakes up seconds after just dying. They were sure a bullet had just passed through their body. Yet the scene before them continues to play out. Only this time, Graham can see their physical body, dead on the ground.

Through the hysterics of the situation, Graham finds themself interacting with another spirit who cannot be seen or heard. Thrown into this new job as Grim Reaper, collector of souls and bringer of death. Graham watches as the world around them continues, wandering around to watch death, collect souls, and wonder what brought them to this very moment.

When an old woman sees Graham, talking to them with full knowledge of who they are and what was to happen, Graham is thrown into the possibility of the job being a bittwersweetly beautiful thing. Sticking around the old woman's home after guiding her soul, Graham is shocked to find yet another person who can see him.

The grandson, no where close to death, but reeked of such stench. Twisted into the life of a man who took the souls before their time, Graham fights with the morals of being a Grim Reaper and what it takes to ascend.

Graham: Self-interested and single-minded, set out with one goal: collect enough souls to ascend by any means necessary. Ultimately scared and angry to be dead and to be collecting souls. Nana teaches them the beauty of their new job, they slowly find it before meeting Kieran.

Kieran: Kieran, although a main character, is a lot more lose and less throughout than Graham. I have two potential personalities / ideas for what he could be. Serial killer/mercenary of sorts, or a median or someone who can speak to spirits as passed down by his grandmother. These two ideas also have two different outcomes so I'll potentially be writing both or seeing where the flow of Nanowrimo takes me.

As Grim Reaper, Graham doesn't have the normal human senses. He can physically sense souls and their feelings while he reaps them are stronger for him, and he can sense death or when a soul is ready to be collected. Otherwise, he is deprived of a lot of the normal human senses he once had.

What’s you most recent obsession?

In this current moment, I have a weird hyperfixations with mermaids. This will certainly change soon, however it's all mermaids right now. I've searched up documentaries on mermaids (XD), people who dress up and swim as mermaids (I really want to try it), and I'm currently writing a short mermaid story! I might share it once it's done as it's just something small.

What’s your go to book recommendation?

The Art Of Racing in the Rain. It's my favorite book - deals with some real ass topics and makes me cry like a bitch, but it's written beautifully so I will never not recommend it. For those who perhaps don't like books like that, I'd also recommend The Disasters. It's not a perfect book, but I genuinely liked it. Real inclusive and about space travel which I adore.

How much romance do you usually write into your WIP(s)?

Honestly, depends on the plot? I think only two to three of my plot ideas have romance involved, otherwise I much prefer to develop and explore other relationships good and bad. My WIPs have more found family, family, and friendship relationships. As for my main WIPs, Charcoal Mask and the Grimm reaper story, neither deal with romance so far.

What colour do you associate with each of your main characters?

This is an interesting question. In Charcoal Mask, I'd say Zefera is a yellow is color. She's got a warmth, bright, but also almost unsure. Not quite as powerful as red or orange, I think somewhere she'd love to be or even thinks she's at. Rahul is a little difficult. He, perhaps, isn't quite as developed as Zefera yet. Blues and shades of blues come to my mind for some reason. Rahul isn't as daring and powerful as warm colors, but he still holds something rich and beautiful. June is the goodest pup and I want to say green for that reason XD

Do you have any writing habits (your own or other people’s) that annoy you? (i.e. repeated word use, overused tropes)

I really like to begin my sentences the same and it's annoying when I go to reread my work. Makes me want to rework sentences, then I get distracted and don't get much writing done. Certain words stick in my mind as well depending on what I'm writing. For example, if I write about an ocean, I'll probably use 'water' at least five hundred times in one paragraph. I'm trying to work on being more descriptive with my words.

Are there any characters you’re afraid people will ship when your WIP(s) is/are published?

In Charcoal Mask, I'm afraid people will ship Zefera and Rahul. Their relationship is complicated and messy, very broken. Things have been done that simply aren't forgivable and shouldn't just be ignored. While I probably won't inherently care too much, and the story could potentially change drastically from what I've been envisioning, their personalities as of right now simply clash too much. As the mother of those two, they'd absolutely tear each other apart if they got into a relationship which I don't believe is really healthy to ship and idolize.

What’s a name you want to use for a character but haven’t yet?

I have a whole text document with name ideas honestly. Helps a ton when I just want to write and not get distracted by baby name websites. Recently, no names have really stuck with me too badly that I've wanted to use. Some on my list are Kanta, Irene, Alfonso, and Adan.

If you could pick one character out all of your WIPs to make real, who would you chose?

As much as I love Zefera and Rahul, definitely not them. They're criminals ;-; Maybe June because good doggo. An actual human though? Perhaps the old lady in my grimm reaper story. She's sweet and lovely and I'd love to chat with her for a little while. My main characters in my current WIPs are just so morally grey and or just bad people that I definitely wouldn't want them to be real.

There is one character in this random plot I though up the other day that I wouldn't mind being real though. He definitely isn't developed like at all, but is just a little kid who is innocent and needs to be hugged and I would definitely adopt him.

Do you have a usual time you write?

It's all over the place right now. Recently I've been writing on my breaks at work, otherwise it's after work. I'm a bit weird, but I like being alone and or in a quiet place with only my music playing. So that would usually be at night around my house.

What are your OCs’ favorite holidays and why?

I've never really thought much about this. Considering the lifestyle of Zefera and Rahul though, I'd say they don't care too much about holidays. Either they don't have much time or in Zefera case, reminds her too much of family. One could potentially say Zefera likes Halloween but that's only because after halloween, candy and chocolate goes on sale and she doesn't mind spending a LITTLE money on some of that. Rahul enjoys cooking, so on holidays he can actually celebrate and that involve cooking im sure he's fond of. He doesn't get much time to do that though. June is just here to have a good time and everyday is her favorite day.

Would you like to share your favourite bit you’ve written recently?

Fom Charcoal Mask, I can't remember if I've shared this portion before. I really like it though.

“Please! Call off the dog! I’ll- I’ll give it to you.” 

Vicious barks ring through the dank ally. Lines of spit string from the canine teeth of the black dog as it stands over a bloody figure. A man holds his arm to his chest, puncture wounds soaking his fingers. His feet wildly kick himself back into a wall, eyes wide as the dog takes to growling and baring its teeth. 

Watching the scene unfold, a figure stood in the center of the ally. The light from the street cascades over its back, dark clothes sitting loosely on the other human's frame. Their face was painted ebony, eyes an inhuman pitch black. With an almost amused chuckle and slight head tilt, their fingers snap together. In an instant the dog was by their side. Only the sound of the canine’s collar was heard as it shook its pelt out, a tag glimmering when it catches the street light. 

A whimper exits out of the injured man, his hair plastered to his face by the sweat and even blood. He visibly shook as he stood slowly, using the wall to keep himself steady.  “I… Don’t have it on me-” The figure lifts up its arm, pointer finger out and dancing in a taunting motion, causing the dog to start growling again as it awaited the hand signal. Quickly, the other man flings his good arm in front of him, palm facing the two shadows. “-But! I can, I can tell you who has what you need,” he stumbles over his words as his arm weakly falls. 

“You’re looking for a man, goes by the name Rahul Fontanilla. Rahul. Rahul, he works closely with The Kingpin. A loyal man, but surely you can make him talk..” His words trail off into a pointless ramble, eyes trained on the dog. Coming back to, the man looks up at the figure. 

The air in the ally shifts. Though fear outweighed anything else, tension was dispersing as the figure turns on their heel, dog following obediently. Clicking of the dog’s claws on the concrete signify the two’s parting, leaving the other man to slump down the wall and let out a shaky breath.

"Can we go home?" Noya asks softly, earning another concerned look from her friend, but a nod nonetheless.

This is from a short story I wrote at midnight on a work night! It's something I'm actually pretty excited about and I'd like to rewrite it to be much more coherent. If I ever rewrite it, I might post it here. I have no big plans for the story so I wouldn't mind sharing it with you guys!
